Annual Life Chain: Defend life and join Frs. Cook and Boyd and fellow parishioners in the annual Life Chain TODAY, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2018 from 2-3 p.m. Please note that this year our parish will be standing on the north side of W. Dodge Rd. at the intersection b/w 84 & Cass streets. Our parish pro-life coordinator will provide signs at our location, or you may obtain signs just before the event at the parking lots of St. Margaret Mary Church and the 8712 Building. All signs should be returned to the people or pick up sites from which they originated. Come join in this vital effort to give a voice to the voiceless preborn.

EPS: The Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Sunday today, kicking off Respect Life Month. Today the gift of life is threatened in countless ways. After Mass, volunteers from Essential Pregnancy Services (EPS) are passing out a Respect Life handout at the northeast entry to the church. The handout shows ways you can help Essential Pregnancy Services continue its mission of providing life-affirming choices for expectant women and their families in our community. Thank you!

Frs. Cook & Boyd Away: Frs. Cook and Boyd will be away attending the fall Clergy Conference in Schuyler, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 7-8. As a result, we will be unable to celebrate any funerals on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Eyes on Education Ongoing Feature: If you haven’t noticed yet, we now feature an article from either our five-day school, Religious Education program, or Youth Group in every bulletin. The ongoing series is called Eyes on Education. Unifying the broader parish and our education apostolates, the articles will reveal the incredible work and catechesis happening in our various formation efforts for the young. Thank you for your volunteerism, Sunday giving, and prayers that make it all possible.

Archbishop’s Annual Appeal Update: St. Paul challenges us to stir into flame the gift of God that we have received through the sacramental life handed on to us through our bishop and our priests. Through our participation in the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, we are invited to stir into flame our call to love, serve and build up the kingdom in the parishes, schools and ministries of the archdiocese. Our parish has currently committed $17,290 towards our goal of $144, 312. Help us reach our participation goal of 28%. We are currently at 20 total donors. Thank you for your generosity.

Coffee with the King: Enjoy each other and delicious coffee at our dynamic and spirited Coffee with the King in the Parish Center hallway after the 10 a.m. Sunday Mass today.

From the Pastor Fr. Cook

Eyes on Education

Getting Ready to Move Up - Life in 4th Grade Fourth grade teacher Mr. Jeff Gordon is known for his loud voice. His kids will tell you it is loud when Mr. Gordon is teaching! He is also known for his whistle to get everyone’s attention. However, in the classroom you will see quiet independent work, quiet listening and active partnering and collaboration. The Fourth grade keeps their faith alive through classroom prayer. Three times daily they pray together. They also pray a decade of the rosary together each day. In fourth grade students study the rosary and even make their own! Fourth grade students look forward to blue ticket drawings and being on the MVP board. Mystery readers and iPads are also a favorite. Students spend time working on math games to strength new concepts. Division is a new concept and students work with a lot of hands on activities to help them understand. For Mr. Gordon the biggest changes in teaching have been through technology. When he started teaching he didn’t even have a teacher computer! Now students have computer class and iPads to help them with classroom concepts. Christ the King is lucky to have Mr. Gordon!
