Excerpt from Tradition TenOA has excitement enough to offer, as we hopeless comp~~lsivovee reatersrecover through the miracle of the twelve steps. This couldnot happen if we allowed outside issues to turn our Fellowship into aplatform for debate. For this reason, the tenth tradition of having noopinion on outside issues is one of our most carefully guarded practicesin OA.The TweLve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonynlous. p. 191

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood

I just completed one year of service as the Chair for our Intergroup and it’s been an incredible experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Medellin, Colombia last November and participate as a representative in their wonderful Region Assembly and Business Convention. Sharing my experience, strength, and hope with all the members there rekindled their faith and mine in our recovery program. Representing Palm Beach in Raleigh, S.C. and in Miami enabled me to meet other Intergroup Chairs and share ideas. It was exciting to bid on the Convention for next July and we are all busy with that!!

It was an honor to attend the Annual World Service Business Conference last May in New Mexico and give service on this level. It was wonderful meeting fellows from all over the world who share this disease, and see that we are living in the SOLUTION and are ABSTINENT. I’m on the Literature Committee and have the privilege of working on Overeaters Anonymous Edition 3.

Giving service has given me a chance to learn, grow, work with others, and strengthen my commitment to abstinence. Abstinence is such an important part of my life, and to give service reinforces how all the tools help my recovery. I encourage each and every one of you to come to our Intergroup meeting once a month to see how the traditions come alive and see the camaraderie, fellowship and FUN we have. Recovery is HARD WORK, but we can have an enjoyable time as we’re working our programs.

I pray that all of us have a happy, abstinent, and blessed Thanksgiving.

Thank you for letting me give service,

Roberta“My disease—the craving for excess food—has beaten me. But it is no match for the combined forces of my Higher Power, the OA Fellowship and my desire to stop.” For Today p. 102

The OA PromiseI put my hand in yours,...and together we can do what we could never do alone! No longer is there a sense of hopelessness, no longer must we each depend upon our own unsteady willpower. We are all together now, reaching out our hands for power and strength greater than ours, and as we join hands, we find love and understanding beyond our wildest dreams.

“. . . some of us have supplemented our OA program with therapy from qualified professionals. . .” - The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonymous, p. 51

Becoming abstinent and working the Steps brought my deeper psychological problems to the surface, so my sponsor suggested that I seek outside help. I was blessed to find a therapist who was also a member of a Twelve-Step program. I learned that by using the principles of the program in tandem with therapy, the favorable results multiplied.

Before each session I would pray, “God, I am powerless overmy emotional and mental state. Please guide and direct this session. Give me the courage to speak my truth without censoring. Provide my therapist with the knowledge and insight that will best facilitate my recovery. Allow me to hear and accept these truths; guide me to the actions I need to take and provide me the willingness to take them. Thank You.”

In time I was able to reach into the darkest corners of my soul and reveal the truth of my life: I came to OA as a victim; through OA and therapy discovered I was a survivor; today I am a thriver who enjoys a life of sane and happy usefulness.

SLOGANSMinding My BusinessMy favorite OA slogan is, If it doesn’t affect my breathing, it’s not my business.” This saying has helped me many times to mind my own busienss and let others including family and friends, do what they need to do without interference from me. I have enough to do to handle my own affairs and concerns without putting myself into the problem of others. Thanks OA for the peace and serentiy we gain from this program when we work it.Edited and reprinted from Love-line newsletter, Greater Detroit Integroup, March/April 2003 - Lifeline pg 11 May 2009

A GREAT DEALMy favorite slogan is, God could and would if he were sought” (Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th ed., pg 60). The slogan does not say, “God could and would only if he were found.”This inspires me to continue seeking God in my life. It reminds me that recovery is not something I find and put on a shelf, but rather is something I continue to work toward in the process of building a relationship with my Higher Power. The slogan “God could and would if he were sought” reminds me this is a dynamic program that requires daily commitment and ongoing work. There is no defined end product I must attain. It reminds me that perfection is not required. The slogan tells me God will do miracles in my life by virtue of my willingness to find God working in my life. This is a relief to me. All I have to do is seek God, and God will do for me what I have never been able to do on my own. I’m not under pressure to get it right, and I don’t have to fear failing. This slogan offers a great deal!Dana B., Denver, Colorado USALifeline pg 11 May 2009

Annual Gratitude LuncheonOur annual gratitude luncheon will be held Saturday, November 17 at 12:30 pm. We share this celebration with our OA family

from Broward county, as in years past. We will meet at Our Lady of Lourdes in Boca Raton, as we have the past few years. Flyers should now be available at your meetings.

This year we will have a communal salad bar, instead of a full buffet. Please bring something you might put in your salad, enough to feed 6 to 8. The committee will assemble a beautiful salad bar for your enjoyment. Please also bring your own protein, dressing and anything else you eat at lunch.

After lunch, we will break into small groups for discussion, then join together to share. We will also draw the winning ticket for a free weekend at our Spiritual Retreat, being held Nov. 30 through Dec 2, 2012. Need not be present to win. Tickets are being sold now! There will be door prizes, baskets, and perhaps a 50/50. Please join us! It won’t be the same without you! Your trusted servant, Kat

Excerpt from Tradition TenOA has excitement enough to offer, as we hopeless comp~~lsivovee reatersrecover through the miracle of the twelve steps. This couldnot happen if we allowed outside issues to turn our Fellowship into aplatform for debate. For this reason, the tenth tradition of having noopinion on outside issues is one of our most carefully guarded practicesin OA.The TweLve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonynlous. p. 191

November 2012

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood

Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.“In OA we share a belief that we can each recover through a spiritual relationship with a power which is greater than ourselves alone.”

The Tweleve Steps and Twelve Tradions of Overeaters Anonymous, p.91

The variety of religious, non-religious, and irreligious backgrounds in OA is truly impressive. We don’t have to agree to disagree. What we all agree on is a reliance on a power which can relieve us, one day at a time, of this horrible disease. Relief from the burdens of compulsive overeating is only the beginning. Step Eleven is both a practical necessity and a spiritual dream come true.
