The campaign is geared to do this through raising awareness on environmental protection, climate change adaptation and mitigation and targets a diversity of groups with various formats of in- formation and education materials.” The radio podcasts and educa- tional videos are aimed at reaching the youth of Namibia, teachers, en- vironmental clubs as well as urban and rural communities. In summary, the radio podcasts address a dynamic set of issues regarding environmental protection in Namibia including wa- ter scarcity, land degradation, food insecurity, renewable energy and cli- mate change. For television, each vid- eo will focus on definitions, causes, impacts and responses of the afore- mentioned topics. The nbc’s Director General, Stan- ley B. Similo was happy to announce to the Namibian nation the newly acquired content: “The nbc is proud to drive such an educational and in- formative campaign especially in this time of water shortage and drought in the country. It is with great enthu- siasm and pride that the broadcaster is able to showcase these materials to Namibians on all its relevant plat- forms.” It is the broadcaster’s hope to bring to the Namibian nation more of the related content in the near future. Along with the arrival of the Na- mibian National Broadcaster’s TV License Renewal Period 01 – 30 Sep- tember 2016/17, the nbc officially launched its latest TV License Com- petition. Namibian Annual Music Award (NAMA) male and female artist of the year, Big Ben and Chikune, are the official brand ambassadors for television licenses across the country. The duo launched the competition on Monday, 12 September 2016 at News Café in the capital, Windhoek. According to the Broadcasting ACT, Act number 9 of 1991, every person in Namibia who owns a televi- sion set must pay a television license fee. With the launch of the competi- tion, the broadcaster seeks only to incentivize and reward loyal and paid up TV License citizens. This year, lucky winners stand a chance of walking away with N$1 000.00 weekly via the SMS competi- tion. The ultimate grand prize winner will ride away with a brand new Su- zuki AX 100 Motorcycle. To stand in line to win, all Namibians have to do is be a paid-up TV License holder for the year 2015/16 as well as 2016/17 and answer the question: Before the end of which month must all Namibians pay or renew their nbc TV License? Matundu confirmed that Omurari Radio would continue to produce pro- grammes to attract and keep its listen- ers hooked: “Namibians in the dias- pora especially in England asked for an SMS line to enable them to send messages to their families and friends back home as the current SMS line is applicable for local users only. Such an international SMS service could be extended to all ten radio stations of the nbc.” Matundu highlighted the im- portance of a reliable infrastruc- ture to ensure an optimal level of connectivity, especially as regards the online streaming. “As inter- net connectivity is not always a given, Omurari was asked to in- troduce podcasting, to ensure that the listeners would catch up with programmes that they might have missed,” she added. The Namibians abroad showed a keen interest in issues affecting them back home. According to Ma- tundu, the distribution of nbc TV decoders would be a smart move towards inclusivity in information dissemination to all Namibians lo- cally and internationally.
