Holby CityHolby City is a hospital drama because the situation of the drama is based in the hospital.• The mise en scene costume used conveys that it is to do with situations within the hospital because in the title

sequence it denotes nurses in their work gear which immediately connotes that it is something to do with medical professions. The setting is based in a hospital so the audience will automatically know that it is going to be about life and death situations, births and deaths, hospital staffs personal issues and affairs. The sound at the start of the title sequence is the sound of a heart beat which connotes that this is to do with human life because the heart is what keeps people living. The audience would know that this drama is to do with lives. The props that are denoted in the title sequence i.e. utensils, hospital machines connote that it is to do with the the situations in the hospital.

• The narrative tools show what characters are going to be involved in the drama but does not tell us anything about what there part is in the drama, but the order they are denoted in may be telling us who is more important then other characters and play a bigger part in the drama. There maybe some stereotypes in this drama because many men characters were denoted as doctors and most of the nurses denoted were female characters which shows that there is still some male dominance today because it denotes that men are superior to women. 33 seconds into the title sequence which is near the end it denotes a point of view shot of someone walking through a pair of doors which connotes that someone is either entering or leaving Holby city.

• The audience expect to see some deaths and births in this as it is in a hospital and this is where these things usually happen. They should also expect some uncomfortable scenes in this because there will be many accidents that happen to people who would come into the hospital. If the audience watch many dramas they would expect that hospital staff would have affairs and personal issues which would effect their job. The target audience maybe young adults and people that are older because they would be interested in these types of drama that operate in hospitals, this would not be suitable for teenagers under the age of 16 because they would not enjoy hospital dramas, they would be more interested in crime and school dramas like Waterloo road.

Hollyoaks• In the opening titles of Hollyoaks it denotes a number of characters who we know will appear in the drama

and has a important role in the show. We can also tell that this drama will have affairs in it and commotion between the characters beaus it does not show us anything more then the characters. The mise-en-scene props used in the opening conveys what the characters personalities are like because audience would stereotypically judge someone from the first impression.

In this image it denotes a mid shot man with two ladies kissing him which conveys he is a ladies man in the drama and will maybe have problems with girls and relationships.

In the image below it denotes a mid shots a character who chucks a pack of playing cards which could connote that he maybe a anti hero or the ‘’bad guy’’ because the image could be symbolising him being the character that plays with the other characters feelings

The target audience for this maybe teenagers and people older the audience may expect the soap drama to denote lives of people and the events that occur in this maybe relevant to people in reality.

Merlin• Merlin is a fiction drama. In the opening sequence the mise en scene of costume denotes that it was based in a different

time period from today because the costumes worn would not be seen in the 21 st century. The sound used is a wild track of instruments being played and the sound that is played seems suitable for historic times. This conveys to the audience that the drama will be fiction. In the opening there is also someone narrating what the drama is about so the target audience who maybe teenagers and people who are older aware of what they are going to be witnessing. The audience may expect props like swords and commotion between characters.
