IntroIntro Ever wonder what you could do with all that left-

over tissue paper you’ve saved from gift bags? Here’s an easy, fun idea you can make with your

kids! It’s a great way to re-use all that white tissue paper, while making a beautiful art project your kids can hang on their wall!

Send me photos of you work! I will put them on my website. Here’s your chance to share your creations with the world!

Supplies and PrepSupplies and Prep You will need:

– White tissue paper – Canvas or other surface (like a plastic box frame you might have laying around the

house)– Medium and small paint brush, scissors, rubber bands, food coloring, muffins tins or

other receptacle to hold the food coloring– Acrylic matte medium cut with water (3/4 medium, ¼ water) – Paper towels, small container of water, rag or old towel

To prepare for this project, cover a table with newspaper or an old tablecloth. Freezer paper taped to a cookie sheet works well.

Wear an apron or old clothing.

Step 1: Prepare the Tissue Step 1: Prepare the Tissue PaperPaper

Prep your surface, if you need to. If you are using an old piece of flat wood, for example, you might need to prime it. You want your surface to be white or clear. Any other color will distort the color of the papers.

Cut your tissue paper into circles, approx. 6-10 inches in diameter. One by one, grab the center of the paper and squeeze it into a bundle, as if you were tie dying a t-shirt. Wrap rubber bands around the paper, approx. 1” apart Do this for all your tissue paper. The amount you use will depend on the size of your canvas. Pour a few drops of food coloring into the muffin tins. Use a separate tin for each color. Add a few drops of water to make it thinner. Begin painting the tissue paper. Use a different color for each section (between each rubber band) or use on color for the whole

thing. Let dry, then remove rubber bands. Open the tissue paper, then iron (put your iron on the lowest heat setting)

Step 2: Glue the Tissue paper Step 2: Glue the Tissue paper to the canvasto the canvas

Put glue (watered down acrylic matte medium) onto the canvas. Place tissue paper onto the canvas. Gently brush over the top of the tissue paper. Add more glue to the brush

as needed. Be careful! The Tissue paper gets very delicate when wet. Keep adding more pieces until you have covered the whole canvas. Add cut out peace signs or other decoration, if you choose.

Step 5: Final CoatStep 5: Final Coat After the collage has dried, you can coat it

with a thin coat of water-based polyurethane. I like to use gloss, but you can also try a matte finish. Mod Podge also works great!

If you used a plastic box frame, put the cardboard backing back in place so you can hang your artwork on the wall. If you used something else as your canvas, you will need to add a hanger onto the back.

Congratulations, your DONE! Now, wrap your creation and give it as a gift or hang it in your home and enjoy!
