New to the SCA?

The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international organization dedicat-

ed to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our

“Known World” consists of 20 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries

around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, at-

tend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes &

workshops, and more.

How to Get Started

Getting Started in the SCA can be a little daunting– but it’s not as overwhelming

as it seems! All you have to do is come out to an event or contact our local Chatelaine

([email protected] or (520)276-8787). The Chatelaine’s job is to help you navigate

through the SCA! Remember, you are not required to dress up to show up to your first

event! The Chatelaine has loaner garb until you can get your own, and if you join us at

Fighter Practice or another event many helpful people will be there to welcome you and

answer any questions!

Greetings Gem of Atenveldt!

What a fabulous March it was and we have just as much excitement in store for

April. Our first year as your Baron and Baroness and we continue to be thrilled and

excited to do our part for you, the amazing people of Tir Ysgithr.

First, let us take a minute recognize Estrella 34 award recipients since the court

reports weren’t ready by the March issue: Lady Natasiia Novgorodova was made a

Companion of the White Stirrup (Argent Ribbon)! Duke Sir Cosimo Craven the Elder

was created a co-premier of the Courier of Radiance! Sir Demetrious of Crete was

made a Knight of the Society! Three cheers for these wonderful folks and their rich-

ly deserved recognition: Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

March brought us the annual Great Helm and Baronial Guard tournaments. It was a

glorious weekend to witness true skill and prowess upon the field. Lord Wolfgrim

Kolbrand son emerged triumphant to claim the role as Keeper of the Great Helm

and in so doing assume his station as Captain of the Baronial Guard. Flashing steel

and feats of daring brought Lord Steffen le Stalkere victory to claim his right to de-

fend Her Excellency as Her Captain of the Rapier Guard and assume command of

the new guard, being; THL Riàn hua Tadgàin (Lieutenant), Lord Ryan Thorne

(Sergeant) and m’lady Courtney of St. Felix. M’lady Lily of Tir Ysgithr proved her

might in winning the Youth Guard title. On Sunday the hardsuit Guard tournament

was held. Lord Lucjan Maciej Niemira won Lieutenant of the Guard, Lord Jorgen

Unruh became Sergeant and Lord Fergus Mór mac Seáin Guardsman.

Lord William of Grimsby and Lord Valeas Proietto di Venezia were both given mem-

bership of the Fellowship of the Boar- Argent for their valiant efforts upon the

fields of Estrella bearing Baronial shields. M’lady Fey Ayls Sinclair was given a Tan-

From Their Excellencies

Page 5: Tusker Times - btysca.org

5

tony of Tir Ysgithr- Or for her exemplary service. Lord Ryan Thorne, having served

a year on the Rapier Guard and having earned Sergeant rank on this years Guard

proved himself worthy and was granted admission into the Fellowship of the Boar

- Argent. Master Mederic de Chatellerault was granted a well-earned Fellowship

of the Boar- Purpure and became only the second person ever to earn all six of

the Boars (Sir Jakob being the first to assemble Boar-tronTM). Congratulations to

all these recipients for their achievements!

The Barony turned out to march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Tuc-

son and a brilliant time was had by all. Many thanks to everyone who helped put

this together and all who participated.

April brings with it ill winds. The miscreant Sir Sable who, despite all our efforts,

keeps the students of St. Felix under his dominion, is once again expected to ride

forth against their attempts to find a suitable challenger by hosting a fund-raising

tournament. Will the day’s victor be able to best Sir Sable and give the students a

fresh year of freedom from his oppression? Come out and do your best to help

free them from the tyranny!

The Archery Champion tournament and Gawdawful Grail are on April 14th & 15th

and we look forward to a great day of archery followed by one of the oldest ongo-

ing unbelted tournaments in the SCA. The Gawdy Goblet and Ghastly Glass also

will be in search of new victims keepers.

Humbly In Service We Remain,

Brendan Tigra
