Grand Knight’s Report

My Brothers of Council 5803,

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who took part in making this year’s turnover dinner a success. You knocked it out of the park! The Fabry family; Christopher, Dianna, Jim, Linda and the kids did an amazing job setting up the hall. Our bartend-ers, Marino Robles and Henry Mancilla kept the spirits flowing. Last but not least, a fantastic dinner was prepared and served by Jerry Padgett, Gene Walinski, Bob Joyce, Rick Ostrich, Bob Spielman , Angie Smith and Lisa Sage. I also want to give a spe-cial thanks to our brother Andy Prete for pulling through with the ceremonial script. If I’ve missed anyone please forgive me; your contribution is most appreciated.

This year’s Past Grand Knight Celebration will be held on Fri-day September 8th at the Parish hall. Cocktails will be served at 6:00 followed by dinner at 7:00. The price of admission is $12.00 a person. There will be not charge for Past Grand Knights and their wives/dates. This year’s entertainment will be musical guest Sal Fasulo and more!!

Assumption

On August 15th we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was assumed into heaven body and soul.

She has many titles but the most significant is the title “Mother of God”. She is also our Mother, therefore, we are certainly justified asking her to intercede on our behalf when we need her graces.

Who better to turn to than the Mother of Jesus. My favorite intercessory prayer is the Memorare.

Repeat it often and learn it by heart. Here it is:

The Memorare Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known,

that anyone who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help, or sought thy intercession,

was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence,

I fly unto thee, O virgin of virgins, my Mother.

To thee I come, before thee I stand,

sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,

despise not my petitions,

but in thy mercy, hear and answer me.

Amen

Queen of heaven and earth pray for us.

Deacon Terry

INSURANCE REPORT

Have you ever heard the expression “lazy days of summer”?

While the hot weather may encourage a slower paced life, in many ways summer can be the busiest time of the year. Especially for parents with school-aged children. And being busy, it’s easy to forget about such things as reviewing your life insurance coverage.

The purpose of this column is to encourage you to meet with me, your Knights of Columbus agent, before the end of the summer. Whether or not you have life insurance with the order, I’ll be happy to meet with you and make sure your coverage continues to meet your needs and goals. If you’ve had any life changes since you last bought a policy (new home, new child, new job, etc.) chances are your life insurance needs to be up-dated. I’ll work with you to make sure you have the coverage you need at a price you can afford.

Call me to set up an appoint-ment. When we meet you’ll dis-cover that time spent with me is time well spent. But make the call today. Because summer is not only busy, it’s also coming to an end.

Fraternally,

Willie Romero FICF

BINGO WORKERS We are in need of more workers . Training is free and it is not a hard job. For pull tabs you basically sell lottery tickets to the players. If you are new to the council please call me so I can get you on the Bingo Schedule. If you can’t work a specific weekend this month or have a shift preference please email me at [email protected] . I produce the schedule around the 2nd Wednesday of the month before. I have also begun to post the bingo worker schedule online at www.kc5803.org, you will need a password to access it. This is the same password as for the ros-ter. Call me if you need the password. I now send a Flocknote to all members with the schedule when it is done, I still mail paper copies out. If you only want an email and no paper copy, please let me know via email at [email protected]. PGK Rick Ostrich, 805-501-8818

OCTOBER BLOOD DRIVE

Please take an hour of your time for the blood drive sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 5803 at the St Rose of Lima parish hall on

Saturday October 21 from 8 AM to 12:30 PM.

Call Paul Friedeborn at 805-297-6473,

United Blood Services at 805-654-1600,

or contact them online to schedule an appointment.

BISHOP FISHING TRIP

If you want to enjoy the trip next year, call the number below and make a reservation for next year for the weekend of September 28- October 1, 2017. They have trailers, RV sites, or tent sites. Be sure to mention that you will be part of the Simi Valley Knights of Columbus. The annual Men's KCO (K of C Outdoor Club) fishing trip to the Bishop Creek area of the Eastern Sierra's is be held on the 1st weekend of October. Join me and 30-50 of your Brother Knights, friends, and families for a great weekend. In addition to the South Fork of Bishop Creek that runs through the campground, there are the South Lake, North Lake, Lake Sabrina and

Intake-2 fishing areas nearby. The event is held at the Creekside RV Park with campsites, RV sites, and trailers available for rent. You must make your own reservation for sites. They hold a few sites for us but they are first come-first serve. Contact the office at Creekside for a reservation of your desired site. Be sure to tell them that you will be part of our group. They may be reached at 760-873-4483. Activities include a fishing derby with

many prizes (adults and kids, depending on attendance), a BBQ Tri-Tip Dinner on Saturday Night, and card games when there are enough interested players. If we have enough interest and help we may have a Sunday morning breakfast. Beautiful mountain (elevation 8300 ft at the campgrounds) scenery, good fishing (trout up to 5 lbs) and good people. You shouldn't pass it up. Ask any-body that has ever gone, they will tell you what a great weekend it is. This event is open to Council and Assembly members, their families, and friends. We generally have only male guests (let your wives and daughters have a "ladies night out" with other fishing trip widows). Lets hope that the weather, the Edison Company, and assorted others al-low for more water into South Lake, Lake Sabrina, and the creeks. Like all of California, the Eastern Sierras need water/rain/snow. Let us pray that our drought ends before we have more serious water shortages and possible rationing. Special Note: The pond within the Creekside Campgrounds contin-ues to be under control of the California Department of Fish and Game. They stock the pond on their schedule. All normal Fish and Game laws apply. Some of us made reservations for next year's trip as we checked out. The annual Men's KCO (K of C Outdoor Club) fishing trip to the Eastern Sierra's is held annually on the 1st weekend of October. For more information, please contact me at a Council or Assembly Event or call me.

Bereavement and Fraternal Ministry Hi my Brothers & Sisters in Christ:

Since the middle of June my wife Jo had a emergency Back Operation and has been recuperating now at home and is really doing great. We would like to thank one and all for their love, prayers, & cards while she’s been getting well.

K of C Bowling News August 2017

I hope everybody has had a pleasant summer away from bowling.

We are about to start a new Bowling Season. Sometime this month you will receive a questionnaire on your status for the upcoming season.

We will have an organizational meeting on Thursday August 31st at 6PM in the lounge of Harley's Valley Bowl to review the status of our returning and new bowlers. Last year we finished the season with 3 vacant bow-lers. It doesn't look too good on fielding 10 teams again. We may need to reduce again to 8 teams. I would expect league fees to be about the same as last year.

If you have family (age 18 or older), friends, coworkers, we would wel-come new bowlers.

Basic league information:

Bowl Thursday nights 6:oo PM start. 4 person teams Mixed league 8 or 10 teams 100 % Handicap from 215 average I hope to see you all at the meeting. If you can't make the meeting but still intend to bowl let me know. Bill Alexander League President Again Home Phone 805-527-4720 Cell Phone 805-368-4357
