Located in Nooga’s Southside Art District, Ignis Glass Studio has opened up their working studio for a one-of-a-kind, hands on, glass blowing experience. Owner and professional glass blower Chris Mossey encourages folks of all ages to step out of the usual, and try their hand at creating a unique heirloom glass ornament.

“We opened the working studio on

Rossville Ave to the public about a year ago, but our Broad Street studio will be only for the public to blow their own glass. We’re hoping to be opened there by July,” Mossey said.

To enhance your experience,

Ignis allows you to choose your own original colors. The studio’s artists will assist you in creating your piece, right down to trapping your breath inside the glass! Appointments are available throughout the year, but Ignis does ask that large parties contact the studio in advance to schedule a workshop. The price is $40 per ornament, $35 per ornament for groups of 10 or more.

Dear Chris Mossey,

Meeting you inspired me to do more of nothing. By nothing, I mean nothing that I don’t want to do. Your ability to create—whether by means of glass, ceramics, or even just painting some pieces of burnt wood with colored wood filler—leaves me flustered with fanciful thoughts.

Nature is your inspiration, and hearing you describe your gypsy way of life made me want to sell everything I own and reside amongst the walnut trees whom you talked so fondly.

You’re mature, wise, and seasoned in your craft of living off of what you love. I long to hear more about your endeavors to bring happiness to those around you through art, and how texture is your favorite element of what you do. The fact that the physical touch of your work is what gives you the most joy shows me how simple-minded and artistic you truly are.

Keep livin’ easy, Chris. You’ve done more than cap-ture my breath in a blown glass ornament; you’ve captured my heart.

Til the end,Lauren Swafford

Living the dream: The story of the most famous boutique on southside

It’s spring again! And for the ladies, this means special occasions are just around the corner. This season, Southside Chattanooga is profiling one of its most popular formalwear shops, Boutique Couture. Located at the corner of Market and Cowart Streets, Boutique Couture is quietly nestled in a historical, redbrick building. Formerly a small apartment building, Emily Good-in, the founder and CEO of the shop, reno-vated the first floor to fashion perfection: “Boutique Couture was a dream of mine since I

was young. As a child, my mother and my grandmother taught me to sew. I would design my Easter dresses or a dress for a middle school dance. Although I have long forgotten my sewing skills (I’ll leave that to the professionals) my love for fashion has always been there! In college I studied business, marketing, and entrepreneur-ship, just in case that special opportunity presented itself. After working several years in the corporate world, I decided to take a leap of faith and go for my dream of owning my own boutique. I knew Chattanooga needed a

fashion-forward bridal and formalwear store and the Southside of Chattanooga seemed

like the perfect location, with its historic and artsy vibe.

The shop opened its doors in October of 2006. Since that time, we have gained a reputation as THE store to find couture looks! From magazine covers to reality shows, from blog spots to a music video, from being fea-tured in a novel to our most honored press: our own brides’ wedding

albums, we continue to build a stylish presence in Chattanooga and beyond!

From ‘one of a kinds’ to designer fashions, you will find bridal, prom, evening, and cocktail dresses as well as bridesmaid and mother of the bride gowns. All gowns are registered to ensure that you will make a unique statement at your special event. For the men, we have traditional and designer tuxedo

and suit rental. Let us help you find THE LOOK to complete life’s cherished moments!”

-Emily Goodin, founder and CEO of Boutique Couture
