How To Speak Tumblr

You have an account…NOW WHAT?!

So you have a Tumblr account. You have a few friends but it’s not enough so you ‘follow’ blogs that love your favorite television shows, actors/actresses, musicians, or bands that you love.

But what are they talking about?! Tumblr has it’s very own language that takes

some getting used to. Here is your Beginner’s guide to Tumblr Talk!

Fandoms What’s a fandom? “A Kingdom of fans!” A

fandom is a community that surrounds a TV show, book, videogame, movie, celebrity, or anything else that can build a fan base. TV shows like Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries, singers like Justin Bieber and One Direction, and movies like Twilight and Star Wars are all examples of fandoms with huge followings!

“I totally ship them” Ship is a shortened version of the word

‘relationship.’ Saying that you ‘ship’ someone indicates that you support their relationship.o For example, if you enjoy watching The Vampire

Diaries on the CW, you might ‘ship’ Elena and Damon (otherwise known as Delena, but we’ll get there!).

Or you might hear “I ship them so hard.” That just means that you love the relationship between the two people so much, whether they are real or fictional.

Name Abbreviations Jelena. Delena. Stelena. Spoby. Klaroline.

What?! Or how about Brangelina? Bennifer.

Remember the celebrity nicknames for all the couples? We do that on Tumblr!

Endgame: Endgame is when Tumblr fans want or desire for a couple (celebrity or fictional) to be final, whether by marriage or to be together until the end of the series. For Gossip Girl fans, Chuck and Blair (AKA Chair) were endgame because they married and were together for the last episode of the series.
