Meeting of October 5, 2015 FOR: INFORMATION TULARE JOINT UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT TO: MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES RECEIVE: Information regarding 2015-2016 District Priorities and Expected Outcomes, 2015-2016 Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Goals, and Linked Learning Pathways Update Background : The Governing Board of Trustees annually reviews progress made on the previous year’s Board/District Priorities during a Board Governance Workshop and sets new priorities and LCAP Goals for the following year. Current Considerations: At the August 6, 2015, and September 3, 2015, meetings the Governing Board approved the District Priorities and LCAP Goals for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. These priorities and goals became the roadmap for accomplishing the district’s annual goals. The TJUHSD Management Team were instrumental in the development of the expected outcomes for the goals. The 2015-2016 District Priorities and Expected Outcomes and LCAP Goals are included for your review and will be highlighted by District Staff. 2014-2015 ACADEMY UPDATES

Ag Science students attend the Green Hand Conference and assisted at the Tulare County Fair.

Observed veterinary and breeder at the high school farm.

12 Engineering students received CAD Certification

TJUHSD Engineering Team placed 5th at the State Chevron engineering Challenge

Art Academy toured of the Getty Museum and Galaxy Theater

Art Academy students designed and created academy t-shirts at S&S Shirts

INNOVATE Tulare/Kings recognized Steve Shahan of S&S Shirts and Freddie Gonzalez of Galaxy Theater as Outstanding Partners of 2014-2015.

Pre-Med and Engineering began the 2015-2016 school year with 2 cohorts.

2014-2015 AG SCIENCE UPDATE

Discontinued the 10th grade cohort.

9 of the 10 remaining academy students are enrolled in Ag Biology.

4of the original 10 are enrolled in English (H) & World History (H).

3 were enrolled in English (H) and 3 others were enrolled in World History (H).

Letters and personal phone calls were made to the parents making them aware that all courses in the sequence are available to their student.

Meetings were held with each Head Counselor asking them to follow up with the students on the course offers also.

1 added English (H) and 3 added World History (H).

4 chose not to add any Honors courses.

2015-2016 AG SCIENCE ACADEMY PLAN

The Ag Science Academy utilized Ag Advisory for initial approval of the Sequence of Courses and Student Outcomes, TJUHSD will create a Ag Science Academy Advisory Board in 2015-2016.

Move Ag Science Physical Science class to the farm.

Incorporate English into Ag Science 1 class & utilize the same instructor for next year.

If you want to be part of California’s and the nation's

most vital industry, then the Agriculture Science

Pathway is designed for you!

In this pathway, you will have the opportunity to experience education in

a variety of forms. The high school farm is a living laboratory consisting

of more than 98 acres, greenhouse, an 80 cow working dairy, and other

animal units, all of which are used to enhance and be a part of your educa-

tion. The teachers of the Agriculture Science Pathway use the Tulare

High School farm to make learning interesting, engaging and interactive

for you the students.

Academy of Engineering (AOE)

If you love math and science,

the Academy of Engineering is for you!

Students in the Engineering pathway will begin building their under-

standing of the fundamental laws of engineering through cutting-edge

design and hands-on, computer-generated prototypes that lead to the de-

velopment of fully functional products. AOE electives include Introduc-

tion to Engineering Design, Digital Electronics, Principals of engineer-

ing, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Biotechnical Engineering,

Civil Engineering and Architecture, Engineering Design and Develop-

ment.

Pre-Med Academy (PMA)

Do you dream of being a doctor or helping people?

This is where you belong!

The Pre-Med Academy is the premier health sciences pathways that al-

lows students to explore the many professional careers in the medical

field. The Pre-Med pathway incorporates Honors and Advanced Place-

ment math and science courses, as well as electives that include Health

Careers Exploration, Biotechnology, Principles of IT (Information Tech-

nology) in health Careers, and an on-site internship at a local health care

facility.

Academy of Art (AOA)

Are you an aspiring arts or future film maker?

Welcome to the world of art!

Students in the Academy of Arts prepare for college and

career through projects and presentations highlighting student’s love of

visual art, performing art, and computer generated art. Students are given

educational opportunities through museums, plays, college mentors, and

business partnerships from the community.

AOA courses include 3D Art, Drama, Digital Design, Film and Video,

Web Design, Technical Core, Media Technology, Photography, Ad-

vanced Photography, Oil Painting, Drawing/Sketching, AP Art History,

Art Concepts, Orchestra, and Choir.
