It's unlikely that more than 25 gallons of diesel fuel and 10 gallons of lube oil leaked from the tug, said Diane Shipway of Parker Diving Service, one of two firms brought in by the Coast Guard to assist in the cleanup. An oil leak from a tugboat led to the temporary

trail of oil and sludge behind. “[The tugboat] apparently experienced some mechanical problems,” said Grady Springer, an environmental scientist with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. “It was making its way back upriver, and it was discharging various engine oils, diesel, that kind of thing as it was going back up.” Springer said officials didn’t know how much oil was deposited into the river or how long it would take to clean up. He said measures were taken to prevent the oil from spreading too far. “They stopped putting water through at the dam to try and slow any migration of any oil,” said Springer. “The river’s moving, so, obviously, if you’ve got something in it, it’s going to move.” Dallas County EMA Director Rhonda Abbott confirmed the marina’s closing Saturday. “They have not been letting boats in the marina,” said

Battalion Chief Mike Stokes said ADEM suggested it would be best to close the marina. Probate Judge Kim Ballard said the spill should teach a lesson in maintenance. “We’re going to have an immediate, dangerous environmental issue with this,” he said. “You can learn fromthem.” Though the sludge is not a positive for the marina, it is not expected to have a long-lasting impact on the environment. “There’s not going to be any horrific consequences from it,” said Springer. “We haven’t seen anything that we would really expect anything too tragic to happen.”(By Barrett Welch; Selma Times Journal)

vessel selection and communications can greatly assist with productivity, reduction of accidents and cost savings. With many years of marine experience, we can assist Charterers with information on different vessels type and suitability for various operations. All aspects of the vessel charter can be covered from vessel selection, prequalifying if

necessary, contract preparation and handling all communications throughout the project life. We can also offer a comprehensive service to facilitate either the sale or purchase of a vessel. Benefiting from worldwide contacts within the industry, we are well placed to bring buyers and sellers together successfully. The purchase/sale process is closely monitored throughout, from initial negotiations on our client's behalf, comprehensive contract preparation, and all communications through to the desired conclusion. A particular specialisation is sourcing suitable vessels for the emerging offshore wind energy market which is becoming increasingly regulated and quality focused. With personal involvement of supplying vessels to offshore windfarms since North Hoyle was established in the UK in 2001 and many others since, we are well placed to assist with vessel selection and the composition of “vessels spreads” (a combination of vessels which works together as a cohesive unit). Much of which will depend on the particular circumstances of the planned site (Taking into account water depth, tide strength, etc) Our particular goal is to foster good, long term, client/vessel owner relationships as our extensive experience in Offshore windfarm operations has clearly shown that we can achieve the benefits to clients mentioned above.
