•SWBAT identify and describe unintended consequences of technology.
![Page 48: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/48.jpg)
Technology•Technology refers to the product or
processes that are designed to serve our needs
•There are two major types:AssistiveAdaptive
![Page 49: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/49.jpg)
Bioengineered Products•Bioengineered products are
created from the use of technology (they are not natural but rather man made) to alter or improve living things
![Page 50: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/50.jpg)
Assistive Bioengineered Products
•Assistive– technology that helps!!! Helps living organisms but does not change them permanently
•These products assist people, but they are not permanent
•Assistive products are created specifically for disabled people
![Page 51: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/51.jpg)
•Examples: wheelchair, hearing aid, eyeglasses, prosthetic limbs, and antibiotics
![Page 52: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/52.jpg)
Adaptive Bioengineered Products
• Adaptive– things that are adapted or changed to help people but are permanent
• Adaptive- you change something that already exists and make it more accessible to those with disabilities
• Examples: cochlear implant, artificial organs, biofuels
![Page 53: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/53.jpg)
REMEMBER!!!!!!!!Biofuels•Biofuels are adaptive bioengineered products• These are fuels made from living things• They can be made from sugar cane, corn
(ethanol), olives (olive oil)• They are often burned in cars or factories
as a way to reduce dependence on fossil fuels
• Biofuels increase food prices because farmland that used to be used to harvest foods is now used for biofeuls
![Page 55: Tuesday: Chickasaw Challenge](https://reader033.fdocuments.net/reader033/viewer/2022051421/56816781550346895ddc8dfb/html5/thumbnails/55.jpg)
