Farm assurance status Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to
date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having
issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made
Named/Numbered Sires
Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire
details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.

St Swithens Day umbers not a problem at Melton today as we saw over 2,400
lambs forward and sold by vendors old and new who continue to join the
Melton movement. Scenes somewhat comparable to those at the battle of
Agincourt saw buyers charge for lambs forward with some crying out for more
to fill demand, giving the French somewhat of a two finger salute, as for once,
the Bastille day celebrations on the continent had little or no effect on prices.
122 vendors welcomed in the sheep shed today all selling to a pleasing trade, up
to 30-40p/kg dearer than the same week last year.
Premium lambs making premium prices today saw a top of £261p/kg for H & J
Arnold, Tamworth for 41.5kg (£108.50) with 249p/kg (£112) seen for F & D
Dodds up from Northampton with R & S Hatton’s 46.5kg to 246p/kg (£114.50)
and JR Stafford, Grantham to 242p/kg for 47.5kg Continentals (£115). Yet more
meated heavy lambs to 239p/kg (£111) for 46.5kg from Framland Farms, Chris
and Theresa Sabine up from Daventry with 40kg to 238p/kg with E Woolston’s
45kg to 238p/kg, Petwood Farming, Woodhall Spa to 237p/kg for their
lightweight 33.5kg and Blackfriar Limousins, Lowesby Farms, PJ Brooks, RW
Scarborough & Son & TW Herrick & Son all to 236p/kg for 41-44kg.
ER Hanbury, Burley and MCB Thompson, Hallaton both to 234p/kg for meated
Continentals with Kingarth, NJ Hix, AJ Bridewell & Sons & KA Gill all to 230p/kg for 40kg+.
Over 32 pens £100+ today with heavy labs bolstered by an increase in catering
trade selling to strong demand and topping at £122 for 53.5kg from Ken Gill &
Family, Burton Lazers with JR Stafford to £115 for 47.5kg, RS Hattons
Continentals to £114.50 for 46.5kg, J Hoare to £114 for 55kg, Frank Gibbs up
from Stratford with Continentals to £113 at 53kg and Framland Farm to £111
for 46.5kg.
Blackfriar Limousins to £111 for their over weights with Brooksby Melton
College to £110 for 51kg and lighter lambs from H & J Arnold to £108.50 for 41.5kg.
RW Scarborough & Son, G G & CG Hewerdine, ER Hanbury & IG Birden all £104-
£106 for 44-49kg. Lighter lambs in the 35kg+ range topping at £92 for Blackfriar
Limousins 39kg with Robert Sabine to £90 for 39kg, Aswarby Estates to £88.50
for 39.5kg, WNJ Miller, Whissendine’s 39kg £88 & Rory Wagstaff up from Rugby to £88 for 39kg.
As ever thank you to all vendors and buyers for supporting us as we strive to
provide an honest and transparent trade for all with every kilo that passes our
bridge weighed and paid for.

Eid Al Hada/ Qurbani impact pulling numbers out with trade a tad dearer but no
flyer as some would have hoped for. Melton Mowbray Tuesdays continue to
soar as cull ewe numbers increase again this week with over 600 ewes on offer
which met with a similar trade to last week. Vendors travelling from across the
counties with new and old faces joining the fold to take advantage of the
buoyant trade being experienced for the time of year. Soaring to the top this
week were Belton Farms with continental sired ewes which sold to a top of
£104. A tremendous run of Texel bred ewes from C J Sabine with a dozen Texel

the same way bred selling to £97 and £96 respectably. MFH Farming with
Suffolk bred ewes which sold to £100 with cross breds from HD & PJ Cranfield to
£100. P Chetwynd also with Suffolk bred ewes to £92. Mule ewes this week also
seeing demand and a similar trade again with fit not fat ewes still the easiest to
place. Mule ewes this week commanding a top of £78 for strong well fleshed
ewes. Again this week grazing ewes remaining a strong trade for all goods on
offer with continental bred feeding ewes to £60 with the leaner ended mules
down to £45. More ewes could be sold to vendors advantage weekly. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss the marketing of any stock moving forward.
A mixture of store lambs on offer again with all grades in demand and
commanding a strong trade and well sought after. Strong continental sired store
lambs from D Hirst still remaining most wanted and selling to a top of £75. With
more pens from the same paddock the same way bred selling to £68.50 and
£67.50. Texel bred store lambs this week from G A Stokes to a top of £62. A
small handful of tup lambs in among the store lambs this week still meeting the
grade and remaining in demand as J Hawley & Sons sell tups to £64. A
tremendous run of Texel and Charollais bred stock lambs from Ryhall Grange turkeys reaching at top of £60.50. More needed to fulfill demand.

What a Great Day! Fantastic to see the Prime Cattle Building again full to capacity this week, and again north of 200 cattle forward, with the most Young Bulls we have seen under the new “Wednesday Regime”. 50 Vendors (again including Melton debutants) putting their cattle in front of 14 Buyers stood ringside purchasing on 23 Accounts. A clear and transparent trade prevailed; you just need to look at the top tens in each section. ***More Cattle required each week to meet Buyer Demand – Please call me to discuss trade, numbers etc. 07786 771110 or 01604 505267***

Others topping pence per kilo went to NH Dickinson at 234.5p/kg, E Sansom & Son 232.5, 231.5p/kg and both Andrew Mason and H & BA Witcomb 229.5p/kg all with Limousin Xs. If you study averages of Livestock Markets countrywide – you wonder why do
people travel far and wide to chase trade?! You have a “Thriving Livestock Market” on your doorstep, who has the same buying contingency as the
others do and as good trade… perhaps the averages don’t look it, but if you took the time to come and see you would understand why?...

Cull Cows, Stock Bulls & OTMs Cattle: A few more this week, but what a trade again, when you look at the top prices, fantastic to see…!! If you look back to early 2000’s when anything over 30 months went on a “Government Market Collection Service” where the price was fixed and got as low as €230 fixed price per head and weight/breed etc was irrelevant…. Today, taking top spot pence per kilo were TRH Farms Ltd selling Limousin Xs to 180.5p/kg purchased by E Nield & Partners of Cheshire with others at 177.5p/kg, closely followed by Peter Mann of Buckden again with Limousins at 170.5p/kg.
