instructions for measuring custom andirons

1. Measuring for andirons is simple - check depth of firebox and supply us with the dimension. Our typical andiron leg is 20" deep from front of andiron to end of leg inside firebox. For more shallow fireplaces we will shorten the rear leg at no upcharge.

2. The customer should also determine whether the andirons will sit entirely inside the firebox as is traditional, or entirely on the hearth or both inside and outside the firebox as is shown on the plan diagram above. If the andirons will sit partially inside and partially outside the firebox we will need to know if there is a signifigant change in elevation from the hearth to the firebox. It is typical for the firebox to be 1/2" to 3/4" below the level of the hearth. We accommodate this by using an adjustable screw or bolt at the rear leg of the andiron. Andirons which sit only on the hearth typically sit in front of a fireplace screen. We accomodate this by using a 6" overall depth and weight the rear legs.

1. It is a matter of personal preference how tightly the grate fits into the firebox. Please review this diagram andeitherspecifytheoverallwidthanddepthofthefiregrateorprovidedimensionsontheworksheetandwewillsizethegrateaccordingtoourexperience.Thecustomerwillalwaysgetachancetoreviewthegrateconfigurationintheshopdrawingthatwewillprovideandchangesoradjustmentscanbemade then.

1. Fireplace screens usually fit either inside the opening or outside and overlapping it. The customer should measure thefireplace opening and determine that it is reasonably square. If the dimension is the same at top and bottom and thedimension is the same from side to side then the opening is usually square.

2. If the screen fits inside we recommend a minimum of 1/4" clearance all around - more if the opening is irregular as in a rustic stone fireplace. We will build the screen to fit as tight as the customer wishes, but cannot guarantee that it will fit. Ourscreen will be square and built to the customer supplied dimensions.

3. If the screen is to overlap, it is typical to overlap the edge of the opening by 1/2" to 1". It may be desirable to overlap even more if the opening is very small, for example.

4. See the plan view. Screens have feet which will sometimes be entirely on the hearth, or will be, as shown in the diagram,partially on the hearth and partially in the firebox. This depends on the desired location of the screen which varies for eachfireplace. If the feet will be partially on the hearth and partially in the firebox we need to know the elevation change from thehearth to the firebox. We accomodate this with an adjustable bolt at the rear of the feet. For both the Tahoe and theVancouver screens the feet are typically 5" long with 2-3/4" of the foot to the rear from the center line of the screen.

5. Customers can always send measurments and photos of unusual situations for our advice. We can come up with solutionsto most situations!

2. Specify length of rod not including finials.Bracket location can be adjusted during the installation. We recommend installation of brackets into studs or solid wood blocking. Please note: as our hardware is constructed of solid bronze and 1/8" wall bronze tube, it is heavier than standard drapery hardware and we do not recommend installation with drywall anchors.

3. Decide whether you wil need one or more center supports for the rod. See page 3 of our drapery specifications for our standard center style bracket. Please contact us for additional information regarding deflection of our standard bronze tubing sizes over various spans.Custom center supports can also be specified by the designer if the standard version does not work for your application. As for the brackets, we recommend installation of center supports into studs or solid wood blocking.

Terms:All tuell+reynolds furniture is made to order. A deposit of 50% of sale price is required before work willcommence. Lead time for production is 6-8 weeks from receipt of deposit. Shipping time is additional. Fullpayment, including state or local taxes if applicable, crating, handling, storage, and insurance if applicable, shall be made by Customer and received by tuell+reynolds before delivery or shipmentto Customer.

Small items may be shipped by UPS. Larger items may require crating. Delivery dates are approximate andtuell+reynolds will not be responsible for any delay or failure to perform due to circumstances beyond ourcontrol. We recommend shipment by moving van, blanket wrapped. If shipment by common carrier isrequested, crating is required.

Construction:All fabricated steel is cold rolled and drawn tube. Formed and forged steel is hot rolled bar stock. All textured bronze is cast silicon bronze C65500. Fabricated and Architectural bronze is 385 and 280.Finish is hot-waxed and hand polished, or clear powdercoat on cold rolled steel.

Finishes:All finishes are patinaed. The patina process is a chemical oxidation subject to changes in method of application and metal densities. Sample finishes are representative only and final color or overallappearance cannot be guaranteed.

Luminaries:All luminaries meet UL standards. Total height is measured to the top of our standard shade. Basedimensions indicate the footprint and height to the base of the socket. Standard cord length is 4’ for tablelamps, 6’ for floor lamps. Switches are located on the socket base. All sockets are 3-way.

Care and Maintenance:Our metals are protected with a hand rubbed paste wax applied hot. We recommend rewaxing at least once ayear to maintain luster and beauty. Trewax brand paste wax for wood floors may also be used. Any liquidspills should be wiped up immediately. Acidic liquids, abrasive and ammonia based cleaners may damage thepatina. Pledge brand cleaner may be used with a soft cloth for periodic dusting and cleaning. In general,care for your metals as you would a fine wood table or any antique.

Exposure:

All work as finished is intended for interior use only. If you would like to use any of our products outdoors,please contact us for specific finish options.

Changes/Cancellations:Changes in orders are subject to prior written approval by tuell+reynolds and will not be approved onceproduction has been started. Changes may affect the price and cause production/shipping delays.Cancellations accepted after production begins may forfeit the deposit.

Returns:No returns will be accepted without prior written consent of tuell+reynolds. Authorized returns must beshipped in accordance with shipping instructions issued by tuell+reynolds. Unauthorized returns will be refused.

Force Majeure:tuell+reynolds is not liable for delays in shipping or failure to preform due to labor dispute, war, riot, fire,earthquake, acts of God, compliance with government regulations, or any other cause beyond our control.

Claims:All orders are carefully inspected prior to shipment. When the freight company or delivery service acceptsyour order the merchandise belongs to you. Purchaser must carefully inspect orders promptly upondelivery. If there is any damage, you must describe the extent of damage on the delivery receipt. All claimsmust be made in writing and delivered to the freight carrier immediately.

Limited Warranty:tuell+reynolds warrants it’s standard catalog items to be free from defects in construction and or finish fora period of one year from date of final invoice. Instructions for care and maintenance must be followed.

Storage:Due to limited space in our studio, all orders must be shipped upon completion and final payment. Itemsnot picked up within 20 days of completion will be subject to storage and handling fees. Minimum storagefees of $60 per month, per item, will be added to your final invoice. No order will be released until storagefees have been paid.

Our hand-made metalwork has been patinaed and sealed with a hand-rubbed paste wax. Care for our patinaed metal furniture follows:

• Clean and dry any spills immediately.

• General cleaning and dusting may be done with a soft cloth and a little Pledge.

• Do not use ammonia and solvent based cleaners, which may remove the wax and damage thepatina.

• Wax should be thinly applied with a small rag or bristle brush and buffed out to full luster using a soft cloth.

• Application of paste wax is recommended at least twice annually. More frequent applications maybe desired in marine or humid environments. Trewax brand paste wax, lemon oil, or otherfurniture waxes may also be used. A can of paste wax is included in this package.

• All items should be lightly waxed upon placement at their final destination (use the wax included).

• Finishes may darken over time. The textured metal surface featured on our furniture makes it very easy to freshen and brighten the finish if desired. Rub out the surfaces with a gray scotch brite pad and then dust with soft cloth and rewax.

• The client/ storage facility has 48 hours upon arrival of the finished product(s) to inspect andreport any damage to the carrier and to tuell + reynolds.
