Dalai Lama & others. 2011 has been a great year for Ambionica (ambient electronic) releases: Erik Wollo& Steve Roach have created a rich textural world of ambience with Road Eternal ($20.95); Harold Budd hasreleased the beautiful In The Mist ($21.95), similar in feel to his 2004 masterpiece Avalon Sutra - here is musicof poignant elegance; ambient surbahar/sitar maestro Al Gromer Khan returns with forêt diplomatique($24.95), a great example of his “paisley music” albeit with a more contemporary feel. Music of Georges I. GurdjieffThe Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble CD $26.95Armenian mystic Georges Gurdjieff’s music is inspired from folktunes and mystical ritual music. He was inspired to compose his mu-sic after extensive travels throughout the Middle East, Asia, India andNorth Africa. Composed for a series of esoteric ritual movements, hismusic has been widely interpreted and valued often purely for itscompositional qualities. Predominantly, his music is interpreted onthe piano, however, here the music is interpreted on the instrumentshe would have heard them on during his peregrinations. This is abeautiful rendering of his music in what is effectively a folk chamberensemble. It will appeal to lovers of Armenian folk music.

The Art of the Japanese Sword ($19.95), as its name suggests, is an in-depth look atthe thousand year old tradition of Japanese sword making. As much appreciated for its aesthetic qualities asits association with the Samurai, this documentary explores another side of the sword rarely seen outside of Ja-pan – its manufacture.
