Jan. 20 at 7pm, Candlelight Vigil is at 7:45pm Leelah Alcorn, a 17-year old transgender woman from Ohio,
committed suicide on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 2:15am.
"The only way I will rest in peace is if one day transgender
people aren't treated the way I was, they're treated like humans,
with valid feelings and human rights," Alcorn wrote in a post on
the social media blog site Tumblr.
"My death needs to mean something," she wrote in the post,
which she scheduled to appear the day after her death. She com-
mitted suicide by walking in front of a tractor-trailer.

TSA Film Series Begins with The Birdcage The Tri-State Alliance will be showing a movie of inter-
est to the LGBT community every month at the Evansville
Central Library. The first film will be the Birdcage, starring
the late Robin Williams. The film is about a gay cabaret
owner and his drag queen companion who agree to put up a
false straight front so that their son can introduce them to
his fiancée's right-wing moralistic parents.
It will be shown on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 6:30pm at Cen-
tral Library Browning Room A, 200 SE Martin L. King Jr.
Blvd., Downtown Evansville. There is no cost to attend.
TSA is looking for suggestions for future movies and 2
people to coordinate the movie series. To volunteer, please
contact TSA President Wally Paynter at 812-480-0204 or
Bret Ashby was presented with the TSA Myreon Taylor Leadership Award in December for his
many years of support for the TSA Youth Group and the Tri-State Alliance AIDS Holiday
Project. The award was presented to him by Wally Paynter and Kelley Coures at the 4th An-
nual Mama T / Bella Donna Angel Tree Benefit. Over $350 was raised at this benefit for the
AIDS Holiday Project.
Many volunteers and groups helped make the 2014 TSA Holiday Project a great success!
We could not have accomplished the project without YOU! A special thanks to Nathan Payne
and Billy Taylor for delivering gifts for over a week, and to Nancy Erwin for volunteering to
coordinate gift wrapping at the Evansville Barnes & Noble from Nov. 22 through Dec. 24.
On the day of the TSA Barnes & Noble book fair, we had volunteers wrapping gifts for tips
at Barnes & Nobles in Carbondale IL, Evansville IN, Indianapolis IN and South Bend IN. Pic-
tured above are Jackson County IL County Council Member Paulette Curkin and Illinois Lt.
Governor Sheila Simon, who volunteered their time to help with gift wrapping.
Also pictured to the right are Eric and Paula Dismuke, who not only wrapped gifts but also
helped with deliveries throughout Southern Illinois. Also thanks to Exotica and Evil Twins
Piercing for selling snowmen to help raise money for the project.

Remember TSA in
Your Will By Wally Paynter
Making a difference in our community is important. TSA has worked to serve our community since 1980. To make a difference in our community, donations of time and money have always been very important. One way to continue to make a difference is by re-membering TSA in your estate planning. I choose to vol-unteer for the 2 charities that are the most important to me and my life (TSA and the First Presbyterian Church of Evansville). As I prepared my will, I have included TSA, and my church in my estate planning. Though this will not be a lot of money, it will be my way to help make a differ-ence in the future after I am gone. I encourage you to consider the Tri-State Alliance as your prepare your estate. Our legal name is the Tri-State Alliance, Inc., our address is PO Box 2901, Ev-ansville, IN 47728, and our Federal ID number is 35-1636272. Whether you remember us in your will, life estate or in your life insurance, you can help us continue to make a difference. TSA has served our region for 32 years, and your consideration will help us continue to make a difference into the future! Contact me at 812-480-0204 or [email protected] for more information.
