ETEST® is a well-established method for Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) determinations in microbiology laboratories around the world.

ETEST, the original gradient strip, consists of a predefined gradient of antibiotic concentrations immobilized on a plastic strip and is used to determine the MIC of antimicrobial agents against microorganisms tested on agar media using overnight incubation.

ETEST is recognized as a flexible, cost-effective, and accurate tool used to detect emerging resistance and can provide faster availability of MICs for newer agents.

Four Simple Steps & Easy Interpretation*

More than 2.8 million antibiotic-resistant infections occur in the U.S. each year.1 The emergence of resistant bacteria is a natural phenomenon that is exacerbated and accelerated by the inappropriate use of antibiotics.

Keeping pace with antimicrobial resistance while ensuring top quality and performance is challenging. ETEST provides a flexible diagnostic solution to test newer drugs, detect emerging resistance, and help clinicians guide and manage therapy.

ETEST is part of an integrated ID/AST offer by bioMérieux to help complete your AST pathway and support your antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.

ETEST offers a flexible and accurate AST solution to help provide timely, appropriate therapy. Used together, VITEK 2 and ETEST meet susceptibility testing requirements for your clinical microbiology laboratory. The synergy between VITEK 2 and ETEST helps address challenging situations and provides quantitative MICs for patients. Ensuring patients get the right antimicrobial, the right dose, at the right time is the heart of antimicrobial stewardship.

The ETEST range offers more than 90 antimicrobial agents including antifungals and resistance detection references to help guide and manage therapy.

ETEST is a thin, inert and non-porous plastic strip with an MIC reading scale in μg/mL on one side, and on the other side, a predefined antibiotic gradient. When applied to an inoculated agar surface, the preformed antibiotic gradient immediately transfers into the agar to form a stable, continuous, exponential gradient of antibiotic concentrations underneath the strip.

The MIC value is read from the scale in terms of µg/mL at complete inhibition of bacterial growth, where the pointed end of the ellipse intersects the strip.
