L V U T,
den group called Hidden Dores saged a proes. A couple
hundred sudens demonsraed, complaining abou racism on
campus and making demands abou wha he school needed o
do o eliminae i.
The day afer he proes, a black
bag was ound on he ron seps o he
Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Culural
Cener on he campus. There was poop
in he bag.
The proesers were ouraged a wha
hey branded as obvious racism.
The campus police sprang ino acion,
and by ha nigh, hey had locaed he offender. A securiy cam-
era revealed ha i was a blind emale suden: Her seeing eye dog
pooped; she cleaned i up and, being blind, was unable o locae
a rashcan. So she did wha she had been insruced o do: She
lef i ouside he door o he neares building so he nex person
coming along could pu i in he rash.
Sudens were “appalled,” “siting in grie” and “huring” over
a “vile” hae crime hey invened. They were rushing o he barri-
cades o racial jusice over a ficion.
How many oher improperly disposed-o bags o eces are
being rumped up ino cause or war? This is a colorul meaphor
or a problem besieging America’s higher educaion: he hyper-

perceived offense.
Vanderbil’s racis dog doo akes is place among an increasing
number o such head-shaking, quasi-comical incidens. I rep-
resens a misguided ques or jusice ha is creaing problems ar
worse han hose i purpors o solve.
Earlier his monh a Yale Universiy, an inciden caused su-
dens o eel unsae, under atack, unable o bear living in he col-
lege anymore. Wha caused such disress and anguish? I was an
e-mail rom a school official sugesing ha adminisraors’ over-concern abou Halloween cosumes like eahered headdresses,
urbans, “war pain” and blackace wasn’ giving sudens enough
personal reedom. Ouraged sudens demanded ha his official
and her husband, who ried o deend he imporance o reedom
o speech, be fired.
“These are young people who live in sae, heaed buildings wih
wo Seinway grand pianos, an indoor baskeball cour, a cour-
yard wih hammocks and picnic ables, a compuer lab, a dance
sudio, a gym, a movie heaer, a film-ediing lab, billiard ables,
an ar gallery, and our music pracice rooms,” wroe Conor Frie-
dersdor a he Atlantic. “Bu hey can’ bear his seting ha mil-
lions o people would risk heir lives o inhabi—because one
woman wroe an e-mail ha hur heir eelings?” (“The New Inolerance o Suden Acivism”).
This is wha he bes and brighes in America’s highes uni-
versiies are being augh o hink. They are being trained how o
be offended—trained o deec agression where here is none.
The buzzword or hese concoced crimes is microaggres-
sions—“small acions or word choices ha seem on heir ace
o have no malicious inen bu ha are hough o as a kind o
violence noneheless.” Tha is how Greg Lukianoff and Jonahan
Haid defined microaggressions in heir Sepember 2015 Atlan-
tic aricle, “The Coddling o he American Mind.” They describe,
or example, campus guidelines branding i a microagression o
ask an Asian American “Where were you born?”—“because his
implies ha he or she is no a real American.” Ohers include:“America is he land o opporuniy” and “I believe he mos qual-
ified person should ge he job.” The horror.
This isn’ jus unny and ridiculous. I is a serious problem—
because we are seeing America’s uure. I is he naion’s educa-
ional sysem ha produces omorrow’s leaders.
These young people are radical. They cherish exremely divi-
sive and dangerous ideas o wha jusice looks like, wha soci-
ey owes hem, and how hey should be able o shu down any-
one who disagrees wih hem. They are gaining more and more
power, abeted by auhoriies who came ou o he same educa-
ional sysem.
Meanwhile, hese sudens are hemselves immune rom san-
dards o civiliy and decency. Screaming, bullying, fighing—
hese are legiimae ools in he supposedly noble war on inol-
erance. This misguided movemen offers no acual soluions.
Is aim is simply o proes, accuse, malign, ge people fired, and
cause a ruckus.
In ac, heir mission o expose hidden bigory is omening
blatant racism, overt hared and acual conflic.
Evidence o a backlash among whies in he U.S. agains heseincidens is emerging. The Washington Post repored Novem-
ber 20 on a “Illini Whie Sudens Union” Facebook page: “Cre-
aed Wednesday afer a proes sympaheic o Black Lives Ma-
er, he page declared isel ‘or whie sudens o Universiy
o Illinois o be able o orm a communiy and discuss our own
issues as well as be able o organize agains he errorism we have
been acing rom Black Lives Mater aciviss on campus,’ as he
Daily Illini repored.” The “abou” secion o he page said i was
abou “Whie Pride and a sae place or Whie sudens.” Anoher
par o he sie encouraged people o send i picures o black
proesors on campus “so we know who ani-whies are.”
Following up on he Pos sory, he College Fix ound more
han 30 “Whie Suden Union” pages on Facebook creaed wihin jus he prior week, a prominen universiies including Sand-
ord, Penn Sae, , UC Berkeley, he Universiy o Missouri
and . Several o hese pages say, “We affirm he digniy and
ancesry o our proud people who have gifed he world wih
counless works o beauy, science and wisdom, and are com-
mited o promoing a dialogue and poliical resisance ha will
secure a uure or our poseriy and spiri.”
Is his all ha surprising? These sudens are simply creaing
Facebook pages ha are essenially using he same language ha
“black suden union” groups do abou heir own race. Neverhe-
less, hey have sirred suden anger and roused adminisraors
o demand hese Web pages be removed. Wha will happen nex?
Obviously, here is racism in America. There are racis peo-ple who will do racis hings. Bu he idea ha creaing a climae
o inolerance—o accusaions and demands, o orced change
based on a skewed view o jusice—is going o roo ou suppos-
edly sysemic racism is . I is leading in pre-
cisely he opposie direcion.
This is deeply concerning, because—as we have ofen men-
ioned a he Trumpet—biblical prophecies warn how race prob-
lems in he U.S. are going o explode. Surely here are some—o
several races—who are racis and are being provoked ino vio-
lence. This siuaion is going o blow up in all our aces.

How Paris Atacks Have Srenghened Iran’s Posiion Over SyriaGuardian | November 18
WE TALKED ABOU T THIS
T P H R
highly-anicipaed visi o heÉlysée Palace, which was sched-
uled or his week, bu he Iranian presiden will soon ravel oFrance wih a beter bargaining posiion over Syria.
Iran, an ally o Bashar Assad’s regime since he conflic sared
in 2011, has been arguing ha he Wes should prioriize he figh
agains Islamic Sae () and sep aside rom he posiion ha
he Syrian leader, considered by hem o be a par o he problem,
mus leave.
Criics say Tehran is rying o shield Assad behind a biger
evil and is doing whaever i can o proec is sraegic ally, while
many ohers believe ha he invasion o Iraq and he ousings
o Saddam Hussein and, more recenly, Muammar Qadhafi in
Libya are signs ha power vacuums in such a volaile region have
proved o be a major challenge.
Ali Aloneh, senior ellow a he Foundaion or he Deenseo Democracies, said: “Presiden François Hollande, who canno
coun on Washingon deploying ground orces in Syria, is now
reaching ou o Iran and Russia o orm an alliance in he figh
agains Daesh [].
“This in urn legiimizes Iran’s miliary engagemen in Syria,
which Washingon considers as one o he roo causes o emer-
gence o Daesh in ha counry. In ha sense, he erroris atacks
in Paris came as manna rom heaven or Tehran.” …
“To his end, Tehran keeps alive Daesh as a useul enemy,
which no only makes Bashar Assad appear as he lesser evil,bu also legiimizes Iran’s miliary inervenion in Syria and pro-
vides Presiden Rouhani wih access o European capials as a key
player in he conflic.” …
Iran was previously rejeced by he Wes as a major sake-
holder in Syria, bu ollowing he nuclear accord, ha percep-
ion seems o have changed, wih Tehran now siting a high-level
Syria alks in Vienna or he firs ime. …
Dina Esandiary, a MacArhur ellow a King’s College London,
said: “I hink Iran migh hink ha he Paris atacks give i an
upper hand over Syria because naurally i gives a litle bi more
credibiliy o he rheoric ha combaing is more imporan
han combaing Assad.” …
“So expec he Iranian nuclear negoiaions o go nowhere,
and expec Iran o increase is conrol over Iraq and is gov-
ernmen. Expec more chaos as Iran leverages is influence
hrough radical Islamic erroriss. And expec he “king of he
souh” o emerge subsanially empowered, awash wih more
oil, power and weapons han ever.”

Amid Terror Wave, UN Adops Six Resoluions—All Ani-IsraelArutz Sheva | November 25
I UN ,
as a campaign o daily Palesinian erroris atacks coninues
o arge Israelis, he Unied Naions General Assembly on Tues-
day adoped six resoluions—all o which, bar none, condemned
Israel.
No a single menion was made o he Palesinian atacks,
which have lef 22 Israelis dead and hundreds wounded, nor did
any oher counries—even serial human-righs violaors such as
Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia and ohers—receive any o he General
Assembly’s atenion. More disurbingly sill, five o he res-
oluions were sponsored by he Palesinian Auhoriy, while he
sixh was sponsored by none oher han Bashar Assad’s regime
in Syria.
“Surreal barely capures he scene: The world is under assaul
by erroriss killing in he name o Islam and maryrhood—as
Palesinians did his week while sabbing Israeli Jews—and he
UN’s response is o reflexively condemn Israel in six separae res-
oluions, all o which are one-sided,” said Hillel Neuer, execuive
direcor o UN Wach, in response o he voes.
One resoluion condemned he Jewish sae or reaining
he Golan Heighs, demanding Israel hand i over o he Syrian
regime. …
Anoher voe—which passed 153 o 7—claimed ha Israel has
“no righ” o “impose” is sovereigny over “he Holy Ciy o Jeru-
salem.”
“I’s asonishing,” said Neuer. “A a ime when he Syrian
regime is massacring is own people, how can he UN call or
more people o be subjec o Assad’s rule? The iming is morally
galling and logically absurd.” …
Neuer accused he General Assembly o being hijacked by an
“auomaic majoriy” o fiercely ani-Israel dicaorships.
“The arce a he General Assembly underscores a simple ac:
The UN’s auomaic majoriy has no ineres in ruly helping Pal-
esinians, nor in proecing anyone’s human righs; he goal o
hese riual, one-sided condemnaions remains he scapegoaing
o Israel,” he saed. …

Grand Mufi of Ausralia Commens on Paris Atacks

Mohammed ook o he radio o share his houghs on heatack. As Ausralia’s grand mufi, Mohammed had he opporu-
niy o condemn he erroris atacks in Paris and douse he smol-
dering immigraion crisis in Ausralia.
Unorunaely, no such response was orhcoming. Insead,
he grand mufi heaped coals on he fire. Mohammed expressed
condolences o he amilies and riends o he vicims killed in
he suicide bombings and shooings, bu hen his speech ook a
urn or he worse.
Insead o uncondiionally condemning he atacks, he said
ha, in a way, hese atacks were jusified.
He saed, “I is hereore imperaive ha all causaive acors
such as racism, Islamophobia, curailing reedoms hrough secu-
riizaion, duplicious oreign policies, and miliary inervenion
mus be comprehensively addressed.” Noice: “causaive acors.”
So he grand mufi hinks ha he French share par o he blameor he atacks. As or his menioning o Islamophobia and racism,
France has he larges Muslim populaion in Wesern Europe. In
2014, i was esimaed o be around 6.13 million. Tha is nearly 10
percen o he French populaion. Islam is he second-mos widely
praciced religion in he counry afer Roman Caholicism.
More roubling is he idea ha he grand mufi is probably no
ignoran o his ac. He is likely no alking o French Muslims,
bu o Ausralia’s Muslim communiy.
Ausralia has approximaely 480,000 pracicing Muslims.
While he Islamic presence is seadily growing and minares are

(Islamic Sae) is “baqiya wa aamaddad,” which sands

Boh hese elemens mus be undersood o really undersand
no only bu Islam generally.
The “remaining” componen is he esablishmen o a pres-
ence and srenghening his base. This includes cenering a pop-

Now, he Bundeswehr will do is par o help figh he erroris

These expensive drugs ofen provide users wih relie rom

Abou 16 percen o all hospial admissions are relaed o

used as prescribed—are he ourh-leading cause o deah or
Americans. Tha is 10 imes higher han he number o people
killed by illegal drugs.
In ligh o hese risks, here are some quesions paiens
should ask heir docors beore ollowing all recommendaions
o ake pharmaceuicals.
Firs, a paien should ask he docor abou a saisic called
he , or he “Number-Needed-o-Trea.” The describes
he number o people who need o ake a cerain drug in order or
one of them o be helped by i.
Consider he example o sain—a class o drugs rouinely pre-
scribed o lower choleserol levels. The or he mos widely
prescribed sain is a jaw-dropping 250. For every 250 people ak-
ing i, sain prevens only one person rom having adverse effecs.
Beore agreeing o a new prescripion, a paien should also
ask abou he side effecs and the percentage of people who suf-
fer from them.
To sick wih he example o sain, he side effecs are serious.
They include join pain, muscle pain and gasroinesinal disress.
These are known o affec abou 5 percen o people aking he drug.
I you add he side-effec percenage o he , you see ha
or every 250 people aking he mos widely prescribed sain,
jus one person is helped, while more han a dozen suffer awul
side effecs. This means each individual paien is 12.5 imes more
likely o be harmed han aided by he drug.
The hird quesion is wheher your docor is being paid by he
company making hese drugs. In 2012, pharmaceuical compa-
nies spen $3.5 billion on direc-o-consumer markeing. Tha
same year, hey spen $24 billion markeing direcly o healh-
care proessionals.
The Naional Physicians Alliance said ha 83 percen o doc-
ors repor having acceped ood and/or gifs rom drug com-
panies as par o his direc-o-docors markeing. One sudy
showed ha America has abou 100,000 drug represenaives or
