Additional Requirements• Tula Sunrise Aurifil Thread 100% cotton

50 wt.• 70"x 86" (177.80cm x 218.44) batting• Template Plastic for tracing template pat-

terns Optional: other circular cutting tools, such as the Classic Curves ruler from Color Girl Quilts* with an 81⁄2" curve, or have acryl-ic template(s) cut to size from the template patterns

CuttingWOF = Width of Fabric*If using Classic Curves ruler (or other alternate method), follow the manufacturer’s cutting in-structions for Fabrics A through T and V. Make sure to use the same specialty cutting tool for both the inner and outer shapes to assure perfect alignment. Your required yardage may differ.

Fabrics A-T, cut from each:(4) Template A orange peel shapes, making sure to align the points on the bias grain as marked on the template. For directional prints, rotate the template 180° for 2 cuts to keep the print in the correct orientation for the final Flora block.

Fabric U, cut:(13) 3" x WOF (7.62cm x WOF); cut (160) 3" x 3" (7.62cm x 7.62cm) squares

Fabric V, cut:(10) 9" x WOF (22.86cm x WOF); cut (80) Template B background shapes, keeping the straight edges of the template aligned with the raw edges of the fabric and rotating the tem-plate for most efficient use of fabric.

Fabric W, cut:Enough 21⁄2" (6.35cm) bias strips to make 306" (7.77m) of bias binding

InstructionsNote: All seam allowances are 1⁄4" (0.64cm). Pieces are sewn right sides together. Press seams open unless directed otherwise.

Flora Blocks1. Sew a Fabric V Template B piece to one

side of each of the Fabric A-T Template A pieces, matching centers and ends. Press towards Fabric V, and then sew a second Fabric V Template B piece to the remaining side of the Fabric A-T Template A pieces. Press towards Fabric V, to make (4) Orange Peel units each of Fabric A-T. If needed, trim to square up to 81⁄2" x 81⁄2" (21.59cm x 21.59cm). Fig. 1

2. Mark a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each Fabric U 3" x 3" (7.62cm x 7.62cm) square. Place a marked square on 2 opposite corners of each Orange Peel unit with the lines oriented as shown. Sew along the line, trim the seam allowance to 1⁄4" (0.64cm), and press the corners away from the peel shape. Fig. 2.

3. Group the Orange peel units by print, using (4) of the same print in each group. Open the charm pack and choose (1) 5" (12.70cm) charm square to pair with each group. The charm square will form a mock Cathedral Window unit in the center of each Flora block.

4. Make the Flora blocks one fabric group at a time, starting with the Fabric A group. Fold the 5" (12.70cm) charm square in half wrong sides together. Pin it to the right-hand side of one Orange Peel unit as shown, with the point of the Orange Peel in the corner, the fold at the upper edge, and raw edges aligned at the bottom and right-hand side. Place the second Orange

peel unit right sides together on top, with the point in the corner. Sew the pieces together down the side with the folded square sandwiched between the 2 units. Do not press yet. Fig. 3

5. Fold the Orange Peel units wrong sides together along the seam, away from the folded square, so that the folded square is free. Repeat the previous step to pin and sew the opposite short end of the folded square between the remaining 2 Orange Peel units, with the same orientation as before. Fig. 4

6. Pick up the entire unit and match up the two pairs of orange peel units right sides together, along the raw edges where the folded square has not been sewn shut. Pull the folded square open to match up its raw edges with the raw edges of the Orange Peel Units, align the center seam allowances as shown in my video tip visit https://youtu.be/GXe820IXZDY and finger press the seam allowances in opposite directions so that the seams nest together neatly. Pin along this center seam, making sure the charm square will not be caught in the seam allowance. Sew the paired units together, with the raw edges of the folded square inside the seam allowance. Fig. 5

Fig. 5Fig. 5

7. Open the block. From the wrong side, gently open the seam allowance of the first two seams at the center of the block by removing a few stitches, and swirl the seam allowances so that the seams all spin in the same direction. Press the outer block seams flat but avoid pressing the mock

Cathedral Window unit in the center just yet. The charm square will flatten down into an on-point square in the center of the block. Fig. 6

Fig. 6Fig. 6

8. Finger press the very tip of each point on all 4 sides of the on-point square towards the center to make a gentle curve. Using a matching thread, topstitch along the curve as shown to secure the edges. Press the block again. Trim and square up if needed to 161⁄2" x 161⁄2" (41.91cm x 41.91cm) to make a Flora Block. Fig. 7 Repeat steps 4-7 with the Fabric B-T groups, making (1) Flora Block of each fabric, (20) total.

Tip: Use small, sharp scissors to carefully trim away some of the bulk of the seam al-lowance under the center unit in each Flora block to make quilting easier in this area.
