Community What a marvelous Catholic School’s Week! Thank you to all who participated in making this year’s celebration a safe and spiritual sharing. Thank you to Mrs. Higgins for inviting our school community to be Active Christians in attending her son Owen’s baptism. Thank you to all the Special Friends who shared their hearts with our students and engaged in learning activities in our classrooms. Thank you to also our staff, teachers, and families who prepared our orators and provided a most spectacular 2nd Annual Oratorical Festival. My mind was blown that we had a kindergartner recite Langston Hughes - a most powerful moment. Thank you to the 5th grade parents who hosted a Super Bowl themed staff/faculty appreciation lunch for all of our LifeLong Learners on Wednesday. Lastly, I am most grateful to our community helpers who presented to our students the wonderful work they regularly provide our world during our Socially Responsible Citizens Fair. Thanks to:

Prayer
Lenten Prayer - Ash Wednesday
Loving Father,I invite you into my life todayand make myself available to you.
Help me to become the-best-version-of-myselfby seeking your will and becoming a living exampleof your love in the world.
Open my heart to the areas of my life that need to changein order for me to carry out the mission and experience the joy you have imagined for my life.
Inspire me to live the Catholic faithin ways that are dynamic and engaging.
Show me how to best get involved in the life of my parish.
Make our community hungry for best practices and continuous learning.
Give me courage when I am afraid, hope when I am discouraged, and clarity in times of decision.
Teach me to enjoy uncertainty and lead your Church to become all you imagined it would be for the people of our times.
Amen.

NEWSDear Families,As you've no doubt seen from the Family Envelope, our largest fundraiser of the year "our Auction" is rapidly coming up! It will be held on the evening of March 5 at the Colombo Club in North Oakland. This is a fun filled night for parents, relatives, and friends to come together and celebrate and support Assumption School. It's hard to overstate how important this event is to our school. As you know, last year our fundraising efforts provided our school with necessary technology upgrades. To make sure the event reaches its budgeted amount, we all need to pitch in. YOU CAN HELP in these ways:1. Sign up for and attend the event and bid early and often on the great items that will be offered. Here's the link to buy tickets: http://www.assumptionschool-sl.org/index.jsp (click on Auction button). Please encourage others to attend the event.2. Donate great items to the Auction; here are some examples: Dinners, Parties, Pay to Play Events, Vacation Homes and/or Timeshares, Air Miles, Wine, Wine Tasting Events & Gift Certificates.3. Buy 50/50 raffle tickets; you received a pack of these in your family envelope and can absolutely buy more. Pick up tickets in the office or look for folks at Assembly who are selling them, past winnings have been up to $5,000.4. Volunteer at the event. We still need folks to help out on the day and evening of the event, and you get double service hours for this work!Thank you so much for your involvement. This is a time for all of us to come together and have a great time while supporting the school that means so much to all of us.Diocesan Science FairCongratulations to our Diocese of Oakland Science Fair representatives. The Dawning of Day: A Theatrical Presentation of the
Epiphanies of Dorothy Day Sunday, February 14th 1:30 pm
Church of the Assumption 1100 Fulton Ave, San Leandro
What we would like to do is change the world-make it a little simpler for people to feed, clothe and shelter themselves as God intended them to do. And, my fighting for better conditions, by crying out unceasingly for the rights of the workers, the poor, of the destitute-the rights of the worthy and unworthy poor, in other words-we can, to a certain extent, change the world…” Dorothy Day
Please join veteran stage actress and MA theology graduate, Tiffany Hoover, for a dramatic presentation of a monologue that will reflect the life and epiphanies of Dorothy Day, co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement. At the height of the Great Depression, Dorothy Day, along with
Peter Maurin, created a social, political and cultural movement in the form of Houses of Hospitality for the homeless, a Catholic
newspaper for the poor and Catholic Worker Farms.
“The greatest challenge of the day is: how to bring about a revolution
of the heart, a revolution which has to start with each one of us” -Dorothy Day
