This circular route begins in the village of Mual/Moal, but we also have the possibility of leaving our car in a car park located near the sports centre and the church, approximately 600 metres from the entrance of the village, crossing the river to the left, and starting to walk from there.

The initial part is a forest track with a slight slope that goes through the forest parallel to the river. After reaching the first kilometre, we come to a crossroad, in which we will take the one of the left, given that the other is the one we will take on the way back. As we continue the slope will get more steep, at least during the next kilometre and a half.

Reaching 2.5 kilometres, we come to another crossroads where we will opt for the one to the right in order to put ourselves on the highest part of the route and with the best views. We must always stay to the right, given that there are some trails among the bushes that could cause confusion and divert us from the route.

When we are at kilometre 4, we have the possibility to follow the trail that will take us to the Montecín Lookout Point, from where we can enjoy magnificent views of the valley, the village of Mual/Moal and the gateway to Muniellos.

We go back a few metres in order to return to the main trail to the right; from this point the descent begins and we once again enter the forest area. The route continues on the track until completing the 8 kilometres of our journey, where we once again find ourselves at the first junction. We continue on the left, doing the same stretch as the beginning of the route, which will take us again to Mual/Moal.

This circular route begins in San Pedru/San Pedro de Paredes, in the municipality of Valdés. 200 metres from the beginning, we must cross the Esva River on a bridge, and a bit further along, upon arriving to a small group of houses, we turn to the right towards the South. A climb of 560 metres begins that lasts for 2.35 kilometres.

Reaching kilometre 2.6 we arrive to the highest point of the route, from which we will begin the descent through the mountainside of Mount

Relloso. Some 2 kilometres farther ahead, at the fork we will take the trail to the left, to the South, and we will walk about 600 metres until we arrive to the Esva Gorges and the old river dam. Then, we will retrace our steps.

When we have been walking for some 5.8 kilometres from the beginning of the route, we return to the fork and this time we take the straight trail, towards the North. Approximately 1.2 kilometres later, we arrive to the village of Bustiel.lu/Bustiello de Paredes, which we will cross towards the North.

At kilometre 7.75 we come across a fork, and we take the trail that continues straight on to the North. After a few metres we arrive to the village of L.longréi/Longrey, which we should cross straight on, heading towards the East.

In the next few metres we will come across numerous forks, at which we should proceed in the following way: the first, the trail on the left; the second, straight on; the third, the trail on the right; and finally, at the fourth, the trail on the left.

Almost at the end of our route, after passing the last fork, kilometre 9.2 approximately, we continue straight on until we arrive once again to the village of San Pedru/San Pedro de Paredes, the starting and ending point of our route.

DAY 1: The route begins in Cudillero, one of the most picturesque harbours, with a natural amphitheatre of houses that visitors immediately find eye-catching. It is best to park your car in the harbour and set out from there to walk around the steep streets, breath permitting. The best thing to do is to wander through the streets of this fishing village and visit its scenic balconies, but in a certain order. One option is to follow the handrail painted in blue that zigzags between fishermen’s houses. The Pixuetos and the Sea Educational Exhibition, inside the old wholesale fish market, and The Fisherman mural by the painter Casaus are the perfect complement to the route. The afternoon is reserved for the Selgas Estate Mansion. Located in El Pito, just two kilometres from Cudillero, the estate is made up of gardens safeguarding the buildings. Inside, the mansion houses an exclusive collection of art that the Selgas-Fagalde family donated to the people of Asturias. Prior booking is required to visit the estate. The journey continues west from there on the Autovía del Cantábrico dual carriageway (A-8). In Soto de Luiña, you can visit a collection of building comprising of a church and rectory declared of cultural interest. The last stop of the day, less than 5 miles away in Oviñana, will be Cape Vidío, with its 80-metre-high cliffs and lighthouse.

DAY 2: The second day will try to distil in just a few hours the essence of Valdés, whose borough capital is L.luarca/Luarca. This time, the trip will run from west to east. The first visit of the day will be to Barayo Nature Reserve, which is accessed from the westernmost end of Outur/Otur. The landscape combines the beach, a dune system and salt marshes at the mouth of the river. You need to leave your car in one of the purpose built car parks at each end of the beach and visit the spot on foot. From nature to the paved streets of L.luarca/Luarca, where three distinct areas can be found. First, the oldest part of the village, the fishermen’s quarter, with three typical neighbourhoods (Cambaral, Carril and the Fish Market), forming an amphitheatre around the harbour. Second, the affluent part of village, which houses the town hall, park, Círculo Liceo social club and some other Modernist style buildings. And finally, the “Indiano” area, Vil.lar de Baínas/Villar de Bahímas, in the high part of the coastal strip with all its villas built at the end of the 19th century by these returning emigrants who had made their fortune in the Americas.

The final part of the day focuses on Cape Busto, a perfect plain on which the lighthouse stands, which is accessed from exit 462 of the Autovía del Cantábrico dual carriageway, you can visit by car or on foot, taking a path from the village of Bustu/Busto (7 kilometres), which is circular passing through chestnut trees and pastures.

DAY 1: The Navia History Park has three “gateways” for those visiting this territory. The tour starts off at the entrance to Tapia de Casariego, at the interpretation centre dealing with palatial homes, which is located in the “Culture Centre”. In this village, you can visit the fishing port and walk to the lighthouse and the El Anguileiro Beach. A 17-kilometre stretch of the coastal path links Tapia with El Porto/Viavélez. It is also possible to cover only part of the route, up to Mount Mirayos, to discover the Campo Longo lookout, which overlooks unique scenery. La Atalaya lookout, in Valdepares, is accessible by car. After coming off the N-634, take the lane at the end of the village leading to the lookout. Another option is Cape San Augustín, in Ortiguera, which houses a 17th-century chapel and a memorial to the men of the sea, as well as boasting a privileged view of Navia harbour and estuary. A highly recommended stop-off on the way back is Mohías Hill Fort, an example of hill fort culture in western Asturias.

DAY 2: The day begins with a stroll around the village of Navia, visiting the town hall, the Church of Our Lady of the Boat, the medieval walls and Coaña House. The NV-2 local road links Navia with the natural monument of Frexulfe Beach, which has a wooded rest area. Continuing along the NV-2, you come to Puerto de Vega, a village known for the beauty of its harbour and its stately homes and villas built by “Indianos”, returning emigrants who had made their fortune in the “Américas”. It is also home to the second gateway to the History Park. You will need to retrace your steps to get to know the first remains of hill forts. Coaña Hill Fort is just 7 km from Navia along the AS-12 road to Bual/Boal. This site, which provides guided tours, preserves 80 stone huts protected by a thick wall.

This coastal route begins in the town of El Porto/Viavélez. 300 metres from the beginning, by the fishing port, the trail goes to the left, towards the lookout, where we will find a sculpture known as “Litoral” (“Coastline”), by Ernesto Knorr; the route continues on towards Mernes/Mernies.

When we have been walking for about 3 kilometres, we will arrive at Mernes/Mernies and, half a kilometre farther ahead, we arrive at the town of San Polayo/San Pelayo. We will leave this town via Mount Molina, forest of pines and eucalyptus trees, and we will head to the precious Monellos Beach, about half a kilometre ahead, kilometre 4.

We will leave the beach and continue our route to Valdepares; during the journey we can see and enjoy different buildings, such as the Fonfría Palace, from the 16th century, and the Camposorio house, in the Galician country house style, in addition to being able to visit the church of Saint Bartholomew.

At kilometre 5.5, the trail takes us again along the coast to an area of cliffs, where it is worth highlighting, among others, the Cabo Blanco Cape; here we can see a Pre-Romanesque castro, with its fortifications and moats for defence.

We find ourselves at kilometre 7 of the route, here is the Porcía Lookout Point, from which we can take in the mouth of the Porcía Rivera and its beach, which we will later skirt until arriving at the town of the same name.

Walking some three kilometres more we find ourselves now in Porcía, where we have the possibility to visit the Palace of Porcía and the hermitage of Nuestar Señora de los Remedios (Our Lady of the Remedies). The route once again continues on the coast, but returns to the interior at kilometre 11, towards the villages of Campos and Salave. The trail continues towards the Salave Lagoons.

Walking some 15 kilometres, the route leads us to the Mount Mirayos, a mountain of pine trees where, after walking for a kilometre, we come upon a lookout point known as Campo Longo, which offers us beautiful views of the area’s cliffs.

Now almost to the end of the route, kilometre 17.5, the trail continues far from the coast to San Antonio, to later return to the Cebes Cape lookout point. A few kilometres later we arrive at the fishing village of Tapia/Tapia de Casariego, the end of our route.

AS-27

This magnificent route begins in the Pumares recreational area, between the villages of Santalla/Santa Eulalia de Oscos and Pumares. An ascending road towards the Northwest takes us to the Seimeira, and we will return by a circular route arriving at the locality of Busqueimado, to then climb the slope of the hill further south and, when we reach the halfway point of Ventoso, return to the North until we cross with the trail on which we came.

In the first 200 metres of the route, we will cross the village of Pumares, in order to continue in the direction opposite the riverbed of the Agüeira River. The village is a typical set of traditional architec-ture of the Oscos, which formerly had a large ironworking industry and which is currently dedicated to rural tourism primarily.

At about a kilometre and a half, we come to a fork, where we should take the path to the right. Some 300 metres farther ahead, we will arrive to the abandoned village of A Ancadeira, of which the walls, retaken by vegetation, barely remain. At this point we will take the trail that opens to our right, to go to the Seimeira passing through the Desterrado Valley.

After walking 2.8 kilometres, we arrive to the Desterrado Valley. Some metres further along we come to a path that detours to the right towards the Seimeira; from here to the waterfall is about 500 metres. Once at the waterfall there are two options: return to Pumares or go to visit the picturesque village of Busqueimado.

If we chose to go to Busqueimado, at kilometre 3.10 we must turn to the right and cross a bridge over the river. One kilometre farther along, we arrive at Busqueimado. An obligatory stop in the chapel of the village, which has two impressive yew trees planted in its surroundings. Once more, we have the option to go back the way we came or do the circular route which will take us back to the path beyond the small abandoned village of A Ancadeira.

If we want to do the circular route, at kilometre 4.4, at the fork, we should take the trail to the right towards the village of Ventoso. After a kilometre, we enter an area of farms of pasture and cultivation through which the next kilometres of the route with pass.

We will have walked about 6 kilometres from the beginning of the route, and at this point we will find two forks in a row. We must ignore the road on the right at the first fork and choose the path that deviates to the left. At the second fork we will go towards the Northeast, which will take us down the hillside for a little over a kilometre and a half.

In this last point, kilometer 7.62, we meet again with the trail on which we came. All that is left is to retrace the last stretch parallel to the Agüeira River to return to Pumares, where this route ends.

Pumares

Merendero RutaDe la Seimeira

Area Recreativade Pumares
