“If you continue in my word, you are

truly my disciples;

and you will know the truth, and the

truth will make you free.”

John 8:31b-32

Greetings in the Name of Jesus:

Independence Day here in the United States of

America celebrates the signing of the Declaration of

Independence in 1776. Among the tyrannies from

which the colonists declared themselves free were

commercial exploitation, arbitrary government by

remote control, taxation without representation, and

the like.

Independent nationhood, of course, implies also

freedom for something – freedom for a country to

determine its own affairs, freedom for the citizens to

make a decent living, to educate their children, to

pursue happiness, and to worship God.

Freedom’s fight for something continues today.

Citizen groups work for civil rights. It is good when

people come out of the shell of indifference– or the

“I don’t want to be involved” spirit – and show

concern for what is socially, politically, and morally

right.

As Christians we are the beneficiaries of another

freedom, the freedom from the curse of the Law, the

power of sin, the fear of death. This freedom Jesus

Christ gained for us at great cost to himself – it cost

him his life.

Thanks to Christ’s work of redemption, we are freed

for something: free to hear and follow his Word, free

to serve him. He tells us, “If you continue in my word,

you are my disciples; and you will know the truth

and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:31b-32)

Annual Conference this year was very busy. We had elections for General and northeastern jurisdiction Conferences for clergy and laity. Joan Baxter was elected for Northeastern Jurisdiction Conference as an alternate. Joan is in her 29th year s a lay delegate for annual conference. Barb is in her eighth year. Our call to conference was lead by our Bishop Jane Allen Middleton on June 8. She spoke of our theme this year “The River Flows” and reminded us of the power of the river, from which our conference takes its name; to nourish and transform just as God’s presence in our lives nurtures and transforms. We were introduced to our speaker, Rev. Adam Hamilton from the United Methodist Church of the Resurrec-tion (COR) in Kansas City, Kansas. He spoke to us on three day sessions; of qualities and practices of effective leaders in our church. Preaching and worship, lay speakers, Sunday School Teachers, missions, evangelism, and the nuts and bolts of making disciples and what’s great about being a United Methodist. He also told us that each member of COR was praying for our churches pastors and congregations for the annual conference for the past 30 days! We were glad to be at Conference knowing Andrew Burd-Harris (one of our own) was being ordained as a minister on Saturday afternoon. He is serving at Hetlerville/Mifflinville Charge, as their minister. It would be really nice if the people in our congregation would send him a card on his accomplishment! His address is: PO Box U, Mifflinville PA 18631-4410 If you would like to hear more about Annual Conference you can go to the website: www.susumc.org Your Conference Lay Delegates: Joan Baxter and Barb Barron

Notes from the Pastor cont from page 1:

with this freedom comes responsibility, as the Apostle

Paul tells us: “For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand

firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of

slavery.” (Galatians 5:1)

As we celebrate this Independence Day let us remem-

ber that if we are truly disciples of Jesus Christ we will

be about the business of making more disciples of Je-

sus for the transformation of Danville and the world.

See you on Sunday.

God Bless You;

Pastor Ron

KITCHEN INVENTORY!! We are in the process of taking an inventory of the kitchen. If you borrowed an item from the church, please return it by July 10. Several items are missing, including a 4 quart crock pot. Maxine also reports that there are numerous dishes and pans in the kitchen that do not belong to the church. If you are missing a pie or cake pan, you might want to check the kitchen.

FELLOWSHIP HOUR:

There will be NO Fellowship Hour for the months of: July and August. Fellowship Hour will resume in September. Thanks to everyone who helped Maxine Mingle this past year—your assistance was greatly appreciated. Have a great summer!

COOKBOOK UPDATE:

Thank you to all who shared their favorite recipes for our cookbook. The re-sponse was amazing –

total of 449 recipes!

The book has now gone to the publisher and should be available by mid-August. A special thanks to those who worked tirelessly to make it all

possible. In addition to working with the group on planning and design, Marysue Christian headed up the recipe collection; Diane Long took care of publicity and first proofing; Karen Lesher and Donna Hersh did second proofing and Barbie Barron managed the pre-order process and finances. Others on the committee who provided valuable input were: Joan Baxter, Chris Bialecki and Joyce Shoop. Great job, ladies! We trust that the proceeds from this endeavor will be a blessing to those in need through the mis-sion projects of the Trinity United Methodist Women. Cindy Elder, Chairperson

THANK YOU the do-nations and shoppers at the annual youth yard sale!! We profited $742.80 !!

Have you ever wondered what is done with the stuff that doesn’t sell? Well, this year a good amount was donated on— to be sent to Haiti. It was exciting to us to be able to pack up items that would be sent to continue the efforts of getting Haiti back on their feet. The other items that were left over after the sale were donated to Good Samaritan and Salva-tion Army for their use. We truly appreciate the support you give us to do this yard sale each year!! MISSION: A group of youth will be going on retreat July 14-17 in Lancaster to do some mission work and team building activities. Please look for the sign-up sheet on the bulle-tin board for food items that are needed for the trip.

Our children will be selling lemonade and baked goods to raise money to support orphans in Zimbabwe. They will be working with ZOE Ministry, a relief agency working in Africa. Their Orphan Empowerment model helps orphans embrace a future of self-reliance filled with dignity and hope. ZOE Ministry received a grant from UM-COR, which reflects the commitment of the UM Church to reach out to the most vulnerable people in the world. To support our efforts, stop by our lemonade/bake sale stand on July 8 or 29! Donations of baked goods or mixes (cake, cookie, brownie) or powered lemonade are also welcome. We will keep you posted on our progress with our mission. Field trips to Half Way Dam, BTE and PPL Lake on also on the schedule this month. The children will learn about oceans, USA vacation destinations and how God blesses America. News from our Staff:

We sadly say goodbye to our Assistant Director, Amy Cram. Amy has accepted a position with Apple Dentistry in Muncy. We wish Amy all the best in her new job. Amanda Hooper, nursery teacher, also recently left Trinity Childcare. We welcome Melissa Stine as the new Assistant Director and Jen Anderson, a new teacher in our school-age room. We are excited that Randi Wilson has accepted a full- time position in our Dragonfly room and will co-teach with Rebecca Neyhard. Please keep Ray Shutt, Alicia’s father, and Deb Watkins, Allie’s mother, in your prayers.
