Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Paul writes in his first letter to the Corinthians 12:1-7 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed…Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good…” I am writing this letter the week before our annual meeting. I hope to have seen many of you there as we celebrated the past year of ministry, installed new leaders on council and said thank you to those outgoing members who have been faithfully serving. Please thank both groups and pray for them regularly as they give their hearts and time in this ministry on behalf of the congregation. Along with your prayers for them, I would invite you to spend some time praying and listening to God’s call for you. In Baptism, we are each called by God to be God’s beloved children; as beloved children, God sends us into the world, as the body of Christ, to proclaim the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ. Have you been given gifts that will serve this purpose? Yes. This is why Paul says, ”I don’t want you to be uninformed.” The people in Corinth, most likey had a hard time believing they were gifted by God and important too. Nevertheless, your father in heaven promises that He has equipped you to show people God’s love. So, what could a called and sent person of God pray for? Time in prayer might be spent asking or better listening to God reveal potential ministries that you would like to see happen through the church and then claim leadership in creating that sort of thing. Or maybe you are being called to a deeper involvement in an already existing ministry. Or maybe you are being called to finally embrace a passion that you have in the community, for the sake of Christ, and then share how your work has transformed not just those you minister with, but your own heart and mind. You see, the growing transformation in ministry is that it doesn’t just happen in our church or through church programming; and ministry isn’t conducted by elected leaders or pastors. Rather, all people are ministers in the body of Christ with different callings—the church is the place where we are equipped to do our ministry out in the world. This is what Paul means by “given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” God believes that you can use your life to help create God’s kingdom around you. Paul wants to proclaim that news to us in order to create a new identity and craft a new path for our lives. God has named you a beloved child and called you to play your part in his ministry for the sake of the world. How to step out in faith, maybe listening and leaping, maybe listening and taking small steps forward, maybe listening and listening; however it works for you as you discern your way into God’s work for you, you aren’t alone, God through the Holy Spirit is leading and guiding you. May you be blessed with a vision for ministry and may the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. Pastor Chris

May you be blessed with a vision for ministry and may the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. Pastor Chris

You are INVITED to worship with St. Dysmas Prison Congregation.

Pastor Chris will be leading a group down to worship on March 23.

What to Expect when you worship with St. Dysmas

You can expect an hospitable welcome and a dynamic worship experience.

The Chapel where we worship is the only place men are called by their Christian names; everywhere else they are known by their

surname or number. Because many of the men do not receive visitors it is the only place they can enjoy conversation with

someone who is not paid to be there or other inmates. Inmates hear the gospel from our Pastor but experience the gospel

through outside visitors. The key to St. Dysmas’ dynamic and vibrant worship and our congregations success is this link with

outside visitors.

St. Dysmas is a congregation of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). A congregation council is elected and members serve as ushers, lectors, musicians, communion

assistants and the men take pride in their congregation. An Associate council of outsiders from ELCA congregations handles

financial matters. Pastor’s are called by a vote of the congregation, rather than hired by the prison system. (This also means our

income comes solely from individual and congregational gifts.)

It is very important to us that the St Dysmas worship experience is meaningful to every guest that attends. Therefore we want that experience to begin with making entry into the prison itself run as

smoothly as possible. The necessary paperwork includes:

Department of Corrections Access Approval Form to be completed by each guest

Release and Waiver of Liability Form to be completed by each guest

If you would like to go please contact Kira in the church office to get your forms and sign up. Forms need to be completed and

returned to the church office by March 13th.

Trinity Lutheran Church is looking for a Choir Director for our ladies Eighth Notes Choir (this is a paid position). If you are interested in

this musical ministry position please contact the church office or

Lynette Schreck 999-4898.

As we look ahead to Pastor’s sabbatical, this summer, you are invited to consider being a part of the pastoral care ministry

at Trinity. We are starting a pastoral care team who will be responsible for

visiting and building relationships with shut-in members and those in the hospital while Pastor Chris is on sabbatical—our hope is that this

ministry and your gifts will continue to be an important part of Trinity’s overall

mission, even after pastor returns. If you have a heart for people and would like to grow in faith by learning skills to better

come alongside people in need this would be a great ministry for

you. Training will be provided with the first training session starting in

March. If you are already a part of our home-communion ministry this would be

a great opportunity to increase your training and experience as well. If you

would like to know more please contact Pastor Chris.

Are you curious about the Bible? Do you want to know more about scripture, grow in faith and deepen your relationship with

God? But the thought of a ‘bible study’ makes you nervous because you’re afraid you will feel ignorant or exposed as not

knowing much then BS101 is for you. BS101 will meet during Lent and is intended to meet you where you are at, with your questions, and your curiosity

guiding our direction. No question is a bad question or to simple. In fact, consider

Bible Study 101 to be an introduction to faith. Where you will come together with others who want to learn more but have

also felt intimidated by the traditional bible study. BS101 will meet from 12:00 - 1:00

on Mondays during Lent, bring your lunch. Dates February 27th

March 6th (I will be in Nicaragua at this time but we will have alternative leadership arranged)

What’s the buzz about bees? Beeswax is

used to make handcrafted soaps and candles, and honey and pollen can be sold at the market as well. But that’s not all — their

mere presence on a farm means they are pollinating plants and boosting crop growth

throughout the wider community. Bees, hives and training in beekeeping can go a

long way for a family in need.

Not long after being planted, a fruit-tree provides nutritious fruit to help children and families stay healthy and free from hunger, year after year. These trees are

especially valuable in countries with dry climates. Certain citrus varieties, like tangerine trees, thrive in the driest

conditions and help families survive drought.

A pig in the pen is like money in the bank. Within months, a tiny piglet grows to weigh

over 200 pounds! Should a family have a failed harvest, medical expense or other

unexpected financial need, this pig can be sold for much-needed cash at the market.

“And now faith, hope, and love

abide, these three; and the greatest

of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13
