Strategic reorientation: increase focus

Continue to provide solutions for Digital ExperienceBest-of-breed strategy in this ever growing ecosystemStrong and open APIs, support de facto standardsProduct portfolio rationalizationDivestment of Campaigns, Fredhopper and Social IntelligenceInvest in interoperability and integrations

#

AllanThe breadth of the digital marketing space has led SDL to re-evaluate its product portfolio to ensure we have the right amount of focus on our key strengths moving forward.

We continue to offer solutions to create, manage and deliver Digital Experiences. This is key, since its what our customers need. However, we have decided to focus on a very specific portion of this space, and provide the best possible solution out there. It means we follow a best of breed strategy, focusing on our content management and language technologies and selling off the solutions that arent in our sweet spot.

To successfully pursue a best of breed strategy, we continue to invest in integrations between our solutions and other marketing technology. This ensures our customers can select the technology that fits best in their existing environment, preventing major business disruptions by rip-and-replace scenarios.13

Thank you Nuno, let me introduce myself; My name is Nafiseh Nazemi and I am one of the product managers for SDL Web. Ive been with SDL just over 100 days and I am very delighted to be here today explaining to you how we are going to productize product management!

As all new entrants, when I joined SDL, I have had my own observations specifically in the product management organization. If I want to use this PM maturity scale provided by 280 Group, we are somewhere between ad-hoc and partially defined. Of course it is not linear and in some areas we are probably closer to optimized but overall we are here. So we thought we should do something here, as according to research the closer you are as an org to optimized the higher the profit & the customer satisfaction will be and at the end of the day thats what our job is about.

#

Thats why we decided to have a process in place. There are a lot of PM processes out there, but I specifically like this one, again from 280 group because it covers the full product life cycle. Im not going to go through the full process but only focus on the first three and tell you whats in it for you! 18

Conceive

#

The first phase, Conceive, is about Discovering opportunities, Validating product/market fit.We have recently formed a portfolio team where all disciplines within SDL can bring their input to the table in this phase. Think of customer support, sales & marketing, PS, etc. Find your channel, you can use the official ways such as SDL Web Ideas, Gateway and in case you are a partner via the partner channel to send us your input or just get to one of us to discuss your brilliant idea.

We in portfolio team and PM team will carefully consider your input and who knows perhaps you get your favorite feature in the next release!

We will be very open in receiving ideas as well as explaining what happens to them.19

Plan/Develop

From Jeff PattonSource: http://jpattonassociates.com/dont_know_what_i_want/

#

The next 2 phases is about planning and development. Here we are also trying to change, so instead of incremental development, we try to define features in iterative manner. Jeff Patton has nicely depicted the difference. Using the iterative approach, we can decrease the time to market, deliver value more frequently and can validate more frequently as well. Our cloud offering enables us to have more frequent releases and we can bring value to you faster and in turn you can do the same for your customers.

Now before you start thinking about your favorite feature, if its going to get to the roadmap and how we are going to slice and dice it, Im going to hand over to Nuno to talk more about openness. 20
