ABOUT MALL SILKS

WHAT WE DO

We began to manufacture our own artificial trees in 1975, a natural offshoot from our expertise in the live plant industry, through our parent company Plantscape, Inc. At that time many of the architects and designers we worked with were requesting plants for low light areas where live plants would just not survive. Artificials available then were crude replicas. So we started to manufacture our own. All of our production designers are skilled artists & craftsmen who know what the real plants should look like. Their mission—to produce the most realistic, beautiful botanical replicas available on the market.

Over the years we have pioneered an impressive number of innovations in the artificial tree manufacturing industry, and we’ve earned an international reputation for some of the most lifelike plants and trees available anywhere.

Our artificial plants & trees grace major hotels, banks, office buildings, lobbies, cruise ships, casinos, hospitals and malls throughout the world. It is often difficult for trained horticultural professionals to tell that our artificial plants and trees aren't real!

DESIGN This is the first step in the process. You will be directed to one of our staff design consultants who will assist you in determining which Mall Silks products are best suited for your project. Our design team and on-staff personnel are trained in various professional backgrounds including arboriculture, horticulture, landscape design, art/sculpture and construction. Because Mall Silks is a division of one of the nations largest and most experienced interior landscape companies, Plantscape, Inc., you are certain to achieve a quality outcome. Also at this stage, we will work with your project design team or architect to provide detailed specifications for the product to be used.

MANUFACTURING After all of the design details have been decided, our artistic production team brings the design to life. We design and engineer each project independently for your specific needs and your products are made to specifications, on time and with in budget. Because of the size of our workforce, we also have the ability to ramp up production for those time sensitive projects and get them to you one time. Our artists and craftsmen in the production department have a commitment to delivering product on schedule.

INSTALLATION After your product is complete and ready to ship, we can work with the project contractors and design team to schedule the installation. If needed, we will arrange for our crews to show up on site and will manage the installation of our materials from beginning to end. For projects that need to be accomplished on a tight budget, we also offer an installation assistance program where one of our technicians is sent to the site to help oversee the installation and the bulk of the labor is provided by a local contractor or the client. Whether it is a hospitality, commercial, institutional or residential building, our crews have experience installing Mall Silks products for many types of projects.

WHOLESALING Mall Silks manufactures and sells all of its products to a large international wholesale market. These are companies that purchase the products that we manufacture at a discounted rate and resell them and/or install them for their clients. To purchase wholesale from Mall Silks, we require proof of your resell license and full business contact information. We do offer credit terms for purchase with a prior credit approval. Some of our wholesale clients include interior landscape contractors, interior designers, general contractors, architects and florists. We look forward to having you as a new client.



TREES ON REAL TRUNKS

Our trees are all made using natural tree trunks and limbs. Extra limbs and branching are added to extend the tree's canopy and make it more realistic. We then add artificial foliage to the limbs to complete the tree.

The types of real trunks we routinely use are maple, dragonwood, birch, mountain laurel, grape, manzanita and bamboo. We do accept requests for other specialty woods and will attempt to locate them upon request.

These trees are all custom built when they are ordered, they are not pre-made. A group of skilled artists hand-craft each tree. They are available in sizes from a small bush form to over 25 ft. tall. They can be built to custom specs if needed, i.e. single or multi-trunk, foliage density, base type, etc.

Smaller trees come in a weighted grow pot depending on the height of the tree. Large trees come with either a steel or concrete base depending on the type of installation. The size of the base is engineered according to the height, width and number of trunks the tree has. For installation details go to www.mallsilks.com.

Look for this symbol for tree types that come inherently fire retardant (IFR) which means they are manufactured with the fire retardant chemical embedded in the foliage. All other trees can be made fire retardant with our exclusive fire retarding process. For large orders, almost any foliage can be made IFR.

BAMBOOnatural cane

Natural poles can be configured in any way, with any amount of clear trunk show-ing. The foliage can be light or heavy. Our stable weighted bases make installation easy. Can be made in sizes from 2'–25' tall. Please note: Due to the fact that these are natural canes, it is possible that they may split over time.

All plants come in a weighted grow pot base. An optional metal base can be requested at an additional cost.

Synthetic canes look very realtistic and will not split like natural canes are prone to do. They can be painted any color. The simulated nodes vary on each pole so that a repetitive pattern is avoided. Canes are waterproof and fire retardant. Modular assembly easy to install. Can be made in sizes from 3'–25' tall. Synthetic canes can also be purchased separately by the foot. Available in 1" to 6" diameter and lengths up to 20'.


Bamboo canes can be stained a variety of colors for an additional charge.

museum series treesOur Museum Series line of custom-made trees provides the impression of giant woodland trees to your project. The trunk bark is molded out of a special material that can be made to look like real tree bark. Real branches come out of the trunk and can be foliated with oak, maple, ficus, pine, or any other type of leaf that we carry.

Here you can see the real branch structure as it comes

out of the artificial molded trunk. The bark can be

textured and painted in any color scheme to match the variety of tree you’d like us

to replicate. Many unique capabilities can be built into

the trees. Steel framework can be incorporated so that

the branches can support weight such as swings or

benches.

The trunks are hollow, leaving them adaptable to many different applications. Here, we’ve inserted a monitor into the trunk to show promotional videos. You could also add speakers, security cameras, indirect lighting, or anything else you can think of.

These flat-topped trees give the impression of huge 40 to 50 ft. trees living in an indoor setting without taking up alot of floor space. With our unique anchoring method, no container is needed, and the trees look like they are growing out of the floor. The tree shown is 20 ft. tall, has a foliage spread of 27 ft., and over 50,000 leaves. The 42" diameter trunk has special access for a roof drain and electrical controls.


This 17 ft. pine tree is bolted to the floor and completely self-supporting.

Mall Silks has many different bark textures from which to choose. We can also add unique character with realistic imperfections such as knot-holes, scars, hollows, even tunnels. Hollow trunks also provide access to things like hose bibs, roof drains and electrical boxes.

The base for this treehouse is 15 ft. in diameter and 7 ft. tall. A steel structure was designed and built to support what is actually an office for 6 people. The tree bark was then constructed to create this one-of-a-kind tree. The trunk has a walking path through it as if it were a hollowed out giant redwood.

Each of these trees is custom made specifi-cally by one of our on staff professional art-ists. Extra time and effort goes into making these trees a one-of-a-kind artistic piece.

If you decide to have one made and like what you see, you can even request to have the same artist make the next one for you. These items range in price and are available in many custom sizes from 24" to 8' (taller sizes available upon request).

Several foliage options are available–rus-cus, podocarpus, ming aralia, jasmine and bonsai ficus (other foliages can be used upon request). The available trunk choices are dragonwood, grapewood and manzanita.

If you have a specific container you would like to put it in, let us know and we can build the plant directly into the container of your choice. You ship the container to us or you can have your supplier drop ship it to us, then we will send out the completed assembly. These fine custom-made works of art are indistinguishable from live evergreen bonsai. Please note, shapes vary since these are natural items. Sizes from 9" to over 8' tall. Bonsai containers and top-dressing are available.

These bonsai are made using either grapewood or dragonwood for the trunks and naturally preserved juniper branches. The trunks are fabricated by Mall Silks designers into a structurally pleasing bonsai trunk either in a custom made base or a container of your choice. Then natural preserved juniper branches are added to the trunk using a variety of methods developed by our production team. The transitions between the trunk and the stems are sculpted and then painted to match the color of the trunk for an artistic finish. The containers are filled with attractive permanent gravel and moss. These delicate bonsai forms are extremely realistic and will fool even a trained plant professional. They are only for interior use as the preserved foliage will degrade over time if exposed to direct sunlight. The best part is that they are virtually maintenance free and will last for many years.

Custom bamboo configurations are a specialty at Mall Silks. Custom colors and base sizes are no problem.

This 7 ft. orange tree is a great example of how we can customize any project to suit your needs. We can adjust the quantity of leaves and oranges, adjust the spread of the foliage as well as the height. Underplanted with our English Ivy and shown in a copper Italian Round planter.

This client requested a “forest” display. Thick plywood was used as the base. The entire display was made on seven 4 ft. moveable sections. The tree trunks were bored out and slid over steel rods in the base. The platforms were covered with preserved moss to look like the forest floor. Simulated rocks, grasses and shrubs finish off the look. Autumn birch on real birch trunks gave a fall look, along with aspen bushes and meadow grass. Several sizes of pine trees were made using real pine trunks and artificial pine foliage. Shown here in our production facility, it could easily be shippped and reconstructed at its final destination.

Mall Silks is often called upon to make custom room dividers using hedges or bamboo poles.

Using basic materials we can custom configure unusual versions of our regular products, often with an oriental flavor which is popular in restaurants and offices.

Using our traditional foliage we created these towering aspen and

ficus "Spires" for height and presence without a large footprint. Both

examples are approx. 9'–10' tall.

We have made numerous trees like this one with no leaves. Referred to as a snag tree, they have been used as decorative accents, bird perches and even custom floral stands.

their finished project will look like—in advance! A photograph of your space

is taken or provided, and then, using computer technology, our silk plants and

containers are superimposed onto the photo. This is a very successful tool in

providing our clients the opportunity to fine-tune and adjust design choices

before the work is done or the order is placed. Let us do one for you!

how to order

ORDERING: Orders are accepted over the phone during our standard business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. We also accept orders 24 hours a day by answering machine, fax, mail and e-mail. We try to keep most products listed on the website in stock for the quickest possible shipping time. Normal lead time for our “Trees on Real Trunks” products is 2-3 weeks as they are made to order. Museum Series Trees take 4 to 6 weeks. Most artificial floor plants, blooming plants, grasses, vining plants, foliage picks, and natural elements decor ship in 1-2 weeks if in stock. Custom orders require a longer lead time. If your order is large or requires specific items, more time may be necessary for completion. Please always specify when you need to receive your shipment. There may be a service charge assessed on orders less than $50.00. We have no minimum order requirements. Also, for all US and International orders, we must have the complete billing and shipping addresses. For International orders, we require that full payment of the order be complete before the order is shipped.

RETURNS: All Trees on Real Trunks, preserved trees & plants, Signature Series and Museum Series trees sold by Mall Silks that are custom made when they are ordered are considered custom and cannot be returned. Also we require prior authorization to return if defective. To return any item you must contact us within 7 days after receiving the item. Defective merchandise will be refunded or replaced at the discretion of Mall Silks. Returned items will be subject to a minimum 25% restocking fee. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

PAYMENT: We currently accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We also accept business or personal checks (with prior authorization and shipment after clearance of the check through our bank). All custom orders require a minimum 50% deposit. First order is paid in full. To obtain a credit account (for wholesale clients only) in order to carry a balance with Mall Silks, we require that you fill out a company credit information form and send the completed form to our accounting office. Your credit will be reviewed by the accounting manager and you will be contacted to let you know whether or not it has been approved.

SHIPPING: Unless otherwise specified, we use FedEx Ground service for all shipments within the 48 contiguous states. We also offer Expedited 3-Day, 2nd Day Air, Next Day Air at an additional charge. LTL Freight and Full Semi-trucks are used for larger tree orders. Please call for details and for special shipping requests. All international orders must be handled over the phone.

installation servicesMall Silks offers a range of installation services to our customers. Our crews can handle the complete installation if needed. We can also install live plants in conjunction with the silks. Our services include arranging the freight, equipment, supplies, and labor for a smooth “turn-key” installation. If just some additional technical help is needed, we can provide a key person or two to assist in the installation.

Most importantly, we always offer our assistance and walk you through even the toughest job. We help with a basic list of tools and equipment needed to install the largest of our trees. Our step-by-step instructions have been a valuable asset to our first time customers. And our customer service doesn’t stop when the sale is made. We will work to get you the very best freight rates possible and schedule the delivery to the job site when you need it. This simple service will keep you from having to double-handle the trees.

If you’re concerned about how the Mall Silks planting will look in a year or two...or four or five years later, our Maintenance Program will assure you a quality appearance throughout the life of the Mall Silks planting.

This service program includes regular cleaning and reshaping of all artificial trees and plants. Also, an expert crew regularly comes in to inspect and repair damage to tree or plant branches caused by high traffic or vandalism. Please contact us for a routine maintenance program for your trees.
