Treatment Two female students move into a new house; this new house has a history, which is unknown to the new tenants. On the day of moving the new students; Caroline and Macey arrive in the morning, carrying boxes, chairs etc, they are ready to move in. After this, the scene then cuts to a group of students sitting around a bonfire clutching drinks, and discussing the haunted house that Caroline and Macey have moved into; this scene has a much darker atmosphere than the previous one. They are talking about Jessica and Lucy, and how their bodies were found dead in the house with eerily possessed looks upon their faces. There is a scene in which there is a newspaper documenting the two murders of these girls and providing evidence for it. The scene then cuts again to Caroline and Macey saying good night to each other. Then after two hours Caroline is awoken by footsteps and various noises downstairs. Then Caroline draws the demonic symbol on the mirror, Macey sees this and is shocked. It cuts back to the girl’s bedrooms where Caroline and Macey are both sleeping. Next the scene then cuts again to Caroline being dragged down the stairs by the demon. Macey screams in horror and runs down the stairs after Caroline. She then tries to pull her back and comforts Caroline. Finally, Macey is lying awake in bed whilst Caroline is sleeping. Then, suddenly the lights go

Macey then comes back up with a torch. Whilst this is happening a second camera films Caroline rocking back and forth in her bed, and then being dragged into the cupboard. When Macey returns to the room with her torch she notices Caroline is not in her bed, and then she sees the trail of blood...
Treatment analysis
Two female students: Students in horror films are very stereotypical in very famous Slasher films (for example in Texas Chainsaw massacre). In horror films females are always portrayed as vulnerable. Having females in a trailer/ film adds suspense to the audience. On the opening weekend The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made $370,662 (Spain) (21 May 2004). As the movie was a big hit with young students, we incorporated this idea of characters in our horror trailer.
House:A house is an excellent place to film because it plays on the audience’s reaction. For example, if one of the scenes is very quite, something is going to appear unexpectedly. This is shown in the trailer of Paranormal Activity 4 where one of the character comes up from nowhere and the audience are seen an extreme close up. There are many successful films that have filmed in houses: Paranormal Activity and Halloween.
BonfireThis scene is very unusual to have in a horror trailer, but we have included this because a bonfire represents chaos and the fire represents death, danger, rage and destruction.
DarknessWithin in the Horror genre darkness adds to the tension of the audience that frightens them. The majority of our trailer will be shot using a dark atmosphere.
Demonic symbolA demonic symbol is used very rarely in horror trailers, we will include this in our trailer because this is challenging the codes and conventions as it is to some level giving away the villain.Demon A demon is an evil spirit or devil, especially one thought to possess a person or act as a tormentor in hell. As the demon will be unknown to the audience this adds more tension to the audience, as they will not be able to see when it’s going to strike next. An example of this is seen in the Paranormal Activity 4 trailer.
Lights going out
During watching a horror trailer/film, and the lights go. The audience are petrified because they know that something dreadful is going to happen, this idea manipulates Barthes: Pleasure of text theory because the audience think they know what’s going to happen, but in the genre of horror directors might conform or challenge the codes and conventions of horror (Slasher).
Blood Blood is vital in Slasher films to emphasize the extent of the demons ruthless quest to inflict pain onto his/her victims. By using blood, the Slasher film subgenre achieves its purpose of representing a dramatic and extreme carnage playing on the fears of the audiences. The use of blood in the trailer could represent the pain/death of the characters: Caroline and Macy
