We had a fun week getting to know your children and introducing them to the magical books of Mo Willems! Hopefully your child has found a special place at home for their treasure chest. Inside, they had their first treasure: a book that they can read to you at home. they will bring another book that focuses on simple sight words, color words, follows a pattern and has picture clues. They can add this second treasure to their box when they bring it home on Monday! We also made a Piggie and/or Gerald puppet with whom they can read their books or reenact the story. Making ice cream and eating it, creating ice cream art and writing about who they would share it with (come in and see our art/writing wall!), and play dough sundaes were also highlights to last week! This week look forward to:

The children saw a great variety of animals and were able to touch most of them (tortoises, bunnies and iguanasride also went smoothly. When we got back, we read Day by Emma Dodd and created our own colorful day take home readers. The students also created a giant snake out of paint and used stamps to add texture. We wrote about our highlight of the trip and thanked Denny’s Pet World for the tour. I delivered it this week, so the next time you visit, look for it hanging on the walls in the back!

We were architects, engineers, construction workers and dreamers last week ! The kids drew up plans of their dream houses after being inspired by our book. They used a variety of materials to construct a model (these came home on Monday but we kept the plphotos) . We were amazed by the focus and enthusiasm of the entire group during this project. During snack, they also constructed houses out of graham crackers.
