What’s new with United Flakes furs?

Just last month, Haily Sleet, CEO of Lucci Furs, announced at a press conference that the company is now producing colored fur! “We owe a huge thanks to the dye producers in Denmark for trading their dyes with us,” Haily said. “Without them, this wouldn’t be possible.” Colored fur gloves, coats, and hats will be available at all Lucci Furs stores on October 1st. Lucci Furs will launch their colored fur pants and boots line early 2015.

Irwin is his name, ice sculpting is his game. Meet Irwin Freezeman - an ice sculptor from the United Flakes! Irwin has his ice sculptures displayed all over the country! He took some time out of his busy schedule to sit down and chat with Travelocity Magazine. TM: How many years have you been ice sculpting? IF: Gosh, it’s been a while! I would say a good thirty five years! I started as a teenager, when I was fifteen or sixteen, and now I’m fifty-two. TM: How did you first become interested in ice sculpting? IF: Well, it was a combination of many things. When I was in eighth grade, my class took a field trip to the National Ice Sculpture Museum. It was fascinating! I was like, “Hey, maybe I could do this one day!” That same year, I also got tickets to watch the annual ice sculpting competition. Being the outspoken youngster I was, when the competition was over, I went to the winner and told him, “I want to be like you when I grow up!” He was really nice to me. He told me I didn't have to wait until I grew up to be an ice sculptor. He gave me some tips on how to sculpt, and until this day I believe that I owe it to him for where I am today.

TM: What is the sculpture you are most proud of? IF: Goodness… that’s a difficult question! I put my heart and soul into each and every one of my pieces. If I had to choose one, though, it would probably be “God’s Goblet of Life” (pictured to the left). It is such a powerful and emotional sculpture. I really put a lot of thought into it and enjoyed creating it. Continued on the next page.

TM: Have you ever tried sculpting other things? IF: I tried fruit sculpting at one point. But I just didn’t get the hang of it! Ice sculpting was just “my thing”. TM: Where do you get the inspiration for your pieces? IF: I get inspiration from everywhere. Sometimes, I’ll go through an experience that inspires me to make an ice sculpture. Sometimes, I’ll get my inspiration from my family and friends. And sometimes, I’ll just take a look outside my window, and an idea will come to mind! TM: Any advice for our readers? IF: You can do anything you set your mind to, as long as you work hard. It wasn’t easy to get to where I am today. But throughout this whole process, I had my goal in mind, and I worked hard to reach it. Irwin currently lives in Northern United Flakes. He has a wife, Lisa, and two children, Hannah and Isaac. They enjoy ice skating on the weekends and visiting the NISM.
