r(3) Foreign material is excluded by blanking off all apertures, and corrosion

can be prevented by inhibiting the gas generator, inserting a VolatileCorrosion Inhibitor/Vapour Phase Inhibitor/Cyclohexylamine Carbonate(VCI/VPI/CHC) paper into the intake, and packing the gas generator in a

re-useable moisture and vapour proof (MVP) bag containing an appropriateamount of desiccant (a moisture absorbing substance).

    (4) Inspect the humidity indicator paper at the following periods:

    (a) 24 hours after sealing the gas generator in the MVP bag.

    (b) 7 days after sealing the gas generator in the MVP bag.

    (c) Monthly thereafter, up to a maximum period of four years.

    (5) If at any time during inspection of the humidity indicator it is found to be pinkin colour, open the storage bag, remove the desiccant, then inspect the gasgenerator for corrosion. If corrosion is found, clean and reprotect the gasgenerator, place fresh desiccant over the gas generator and change thehumidity indicator.

2.2 Protection of Installed Gas Generators

    (1) The treatment of installed gas generators when they are not required to runfor a minimum of one month, or a maximum of six months, is dependent

upon the climate and storage conditions. It is however recommended that, where possible, gas generators are stored in a bagged condition.

CAUTION REMOVE ALL COVERS, BLANKS, HUMIDITYINDICATING PAPER AND DESICCANT BEFORESTARTING THE GAS GENERATOR.

    (2) If the gas generator is to be maintained in a state of immediate readiness,it should have a preservation run every 30 days. This preservation runshould consist of starting the gas generator then running it for five minutesat idling speed, following by one minute running at the maximum operating

    speed or highest practicable speed.

    2.3 External Protection

    (1) Using white spirit and a clean lint free cloth, clean the gas generator.

    (2) Examine all surface treatment on casings for damage. Remove anycorrosion using fine emery cloth.

3.2 Silica Gel Desiccant Regeneration Information

    (1) The procedure to regenerate silica gel described in Para 3.3is taken frominformation supplied by a leading silica gel manufacturer.

    (2) Although the regeneration of silica gel is possible under mostcircumstances, it should be noted that the silica gel could break and crackunder regeneration and the fabric of the packaging may suffer stress andweaken. If a small hole occurs in the packaging or the adhesion between

layers deteriorates then there is a possible risk of the gel leaking, causingcontamination of the gas generator.

    (3) Whilst the information contained herein is given in good faith, theregeneration of the silica gel is a process beyond the control of Rolls-Royceor the silica gel manufacturer.
