Project: BICYCLE BOULEVARDS
From “Community Sustainability Action Plan”:
• Goal 3: Decrease vehicle trips by 20% by 2020 through effective planning.
• Strategy 1: Reduce single occupancy vehicle trips.
• New Action: Work with the City of Corvallis Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee to educate the public about bicycle boulevards.
Bike Blvds are:
• Low-traffic neighborhood streets
that have been optimized for bicycling.
They provide direct, attractive routes for bikes.• Quieter, prettier, and healthier than busy, car-filled
streets.• Welcoming to kids, families and novice cyclists, and
attractive for all kinds of cyclists.• Extremely safe (many have zero crashes over the last
decade).• Healthy, with noticeably cleaner air than busy streets.
(from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance [BTA])
Bike Blvds
Streets that are already heavily used by bikes and lightly used by cars
Treatments are made to streets to make travel faster and safer by bike while slowing cars and discouraging non-local, through traffic

The Action Team, in conjunction with the City, will be working with residents to educate them about bicycle boulevards and invite citizen participation in the planning process
