Conclusions – TfL as a Game Changer • Creation of Transport for London (TfL) was a highly political act but it served a vital
strategic transport purpose.
• TfL has a much wider range of responsibilities than its processor body London Transport (just Buses and Tube)
• TfL radically changed the transport environment in London as it facilitated introduction of major transport London-wide initiatives eg Congestion Charging, Oyster / Contactless card payment, LEZ, ULEZ.
• The existence of TfL greatly enhanced transport management and people movement during 2012 Olympic Games.
• A large London-wide organisation such as TfL is in a good position to progress transport projects such as using ticketing data , mobile device tracking to aid movement and future challenges like CAVs and drones.
• TfL would not have been successful without political control, commitment and courage at the head of the organisation.
