Minimum Approach Distance Testing Project– Provide Minimum Approach Distances values for live work based on scientific research and

actual test data

– Results may allow live work in cases where it was previously not permissible or practical

based on standardized “default’ overvoltage values

Application of Line Arresters for Worksite

Protection– Improved worker safety during energized work by providing ‘tighter’ control of transient

overvoltage levels at the worksite than other devices in use.

– Minimizes the hazards associated with step and touch potential and arc flash at the

worksite should the protective arrester need to operate while live working is in progress.

MAD Training Video– Production of high quality training material related to live and de-energized work for

practicing workers, stakeholders and the Industry at large
