Alexandria, the pearl of the Mediterranean, is one of Egypt's most important ports, the second largest city of Egypt and the capital of the same Government. The city is named after its founder, Alexander the Great. The importance of the city in several earthquake history diminished, during which a large part of ancient monuments swallowed sea. Thus disappeared the famous lighthouse one of the wonders of the world .. Alexandria now has over five million people and constitutes one of the main tourist centres. It focuses mainly on the Egyptian clientele. Due to the continuing tradition of the ancient Library of Alexandria, once the world's largest library, (destroyed in the following centuries several large fires ) in 2003 was opened in the vicinity of its former building Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
