Early Adolescence and Transition

Students in the “middle years” of schooling (aged

10-15) have very different learning and social needs

from younger children and older adolescents.

This is a period of rapid development in all areas:

intellectual, social, physical, emotional

psychological and moral understanding

Action Plan on Bullying 2013

• Data taken from Growing Up in Ireland Survey, 2009

• 40% of 9year olds had been bullied in the last year

• 24.3% of children aged between 10 – 17years have been bullied in the last couple of months

• 50% of LGBT students experienced bullying• Second Level Students Union urged the DES to

include deliberate exclusion as a form of bullying
