In making budget decisions, UW sought to preserve educational excellence and maintain student access.

We made careful but difficult decisions:

Over 800 positions eliminated

16% cut in administration

12% cut in academic programs

As a result:

It takes longer and costs more to graduate

The need for financial aid has increased

EDUCATION is key to our state’s future

For the first time, the current generation of college-aged Americans will be less educated than their parents.

Washington ranks at the bottom in the nation for the number of its citizens who attend four year universities.

However, our own businesses and industries are relying more and more on a college-educated workforce:
