Equipment required:a. Shelter individual – three per instructor, one per trainee;b. Marching order; andc. Nylon cord Trainees are given 1 x 40-min period.

Lesson is to be conducted by a qualified Junior Leader.

Assessment Criteria1. Attainment of the performance criteria is confirmed if trainees can:a. Identify suitable sleeping areas,b. Prepare sleeping areas,c. Identify the different types of shelters, andErect a shelter.

Teaching Points The following teaching points are to be covered:a. Suitable sites for dry and adverse conditions;b. Preparation of sleeping area for dry and adverse conditions;c. Maintenance of the sleeping area;d. Erection of shelter areas to include:

(1) Types (lean too, single apex, double apex);(2) Without the use of trees, or pegs;(3) Quick release knots;(4) Camouflage; and(5) Refurbishment of area.

Environmental conditions may include:b. Any time day or night in both the field and barracks environments.

Equipment required:a. CRIM – one per trainee and instructor;b. CR5M – one per five personnel;c. Gas bottle – one per section and instructor;d. Gas burner – one per section and instructor;e. Three piece cook set – one per section and instructor; andf. Cooking utensils.

Trainees are given 1 x 40 min period.

Lesson is to be conducted by a qualified JuniorSenior Leader.

Assessment CriteriaAttainment of the performance criteria is confirmed if trainees during the final field exercisecan:a. Identify the contents of a ration pack,b. Understand why rations should be separated into separate meals,c. Correctly disposal of rubbish, andd. As a member of a section successfully prepare and consume either hot or cold a CR5M.
