• This training is for all Room Supervisors, Proctors, Hallway
Monitors, and Alternates.
WHAT IS THE ACT? Curriculum-based college
admissions test Accepted in all four-year
colleges & universities in the U.S.
Helps begin the college planning & career exploration process
Multiple-choice tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science
Writing test on a prompt that defines an issue and presents 2 opposing points of view
Many colleges use ACT results to place incoming students into first-year courses
Can cost up to $80 for students to take
CMS allows all juniors to take ACT at their home schools for FREE
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS All first-time 11th
grade students
We must have 95%, and we have only 2 days to achieve that goal.
TEST DATES & TIMES Initial Test Day: Tuesday, March 4, 2014
Testing must begin as soon after 7:15 a.m. as possible. Everyone will be in homeroom. More details to come. The lunch schedule will be altered. Release by security.
Makeup Test Day: Tuesday, March 18, 2014 We will be on regular schedule. No bells will ring.
TESTING FACILITY REQUIREMENTSManual pages 5-7
Rooms must be large enough to accommodate all students on roster
Students must be 3 feet apart, facing same direction and clock
Bulletin boards with content must be covered or removed
2 timepieces needed (wristwatch and wall clock)
Bells and PA system will be off
Hang red ACT testing sign on door and doorknob
Coaches may not serve as room supervisors for one-on-one testing of a student-athlete
Students cannot be tested by a relative or guardian who serves as a Room Supervisor or Proctor

Read Supervisors’ Manual (will be on the testing site and in your testing bin)

Escort students to classrooms and restrooms
Provide coverage for Room Supervisors (Test Administrators) or Proctors if a break is needed
Do not allow any visitors into the test rooms. Notify Ms. Raynor of this issue in case of ACT visits.

MARCH 4TH TEST DAY Follow pages 39-56 Students cannot test if pre-administration was not
done. Read shaded areas to students. FYI: Read ALL information on these pages prior
to/during the test. Follow ACT Plus Writing directions. Important to read ALL information for Room
Supervisor. Distribute Test Books in Serial # Order (page 41). Record timing in manual and on board. Follow all bullet points to complete forms.

MARCH 4TH TEST DAY Contact the hall monitor for any issues. The hall monitor will find Ms. Raynor or Mrs. Mathis. Irregularities will be reported using page A-6 in the
manual. Suspected behavior: Warning Observed behavior: Dismissal Students dismissed for prohibited behaviors will not
be rescheduled for makeup testing. They will not help us get 95% attendance, so be diligent in warning students about the rules.
AFTER THE TESTManual pages 57
MARCH 4TH TEST DAY
Do not dismiss students. Wait for an announcement or a bell.
Room Supervisor should come to Media Center for Check-In.
Bring items listed on purple sheet. Do not come to Media Center without all your items!!!
The proctor should remain with students until the Room Supervisor returns or they are dismissed (by an announcement) for last lunch.
The proctor can distribute electronic devices and provide students with Extra Credit Certificates who behave appropriately during testing.
