PRESENTATION OF THE ACADEMY

The Basra Academy for Training is an initiative launched by two international training companies: Pigier–Trema and Techma. It is backed by the Basrah Governorate, the Basrah Technical College and by the Southern Technical University.

The Academy’s sponsors are proud of the cooperation with the esteemed Basrah Technical College. It is instrumental in the possibility of delivering international level courses and training in the heart of the city, inside the College’s secured campus.

Following the completion of its modern training facilities, the Academy is now in a position to provide a series of courses and training in different disciplines. Highly qualified trainers with international experience will deliver courses accredited by reputable International Awarding Bodies such as NFPA, JOIFF, NEBOSH and IOSH.

Public courses are offered in the Academy’s facilities, following a calendar published on its website www.basra-academy.training. Private and tailored courses are offered either in the Academy or in Client’s facilities and their program could be either the Academy’s standard accredited program, or a program designed to suit specific needs.

Techma FZCO is an institution that is built upon the concept of providing high quality training delivered by competent highly qualified training instructors. Our portfolio of courses continues to grow but will never out-strip the availability of our staff.

Techma FZCO specialises in the delivery of Health and Safety training and in emergency response development at all levels.

Our courses are accredited by NEBOSH, JOIFF, IOSH and IADC and our partners have additional accreditation for the delivery of ICAO and OPITO accredited courses.

Techma FZCO is proud of its accreditations, but we are also mindful that some organisations may prefer their courses designed specifically to satisfy their own needs. This we are happy to do, although it is possible that some of the amendments made to our brochure courses may nullify the accreditation.

In addition to training delivery, Techma utilises the skills of highly qualified and experienced personnel to undertake consultancy work. This can be in the form of a Training Needs Analysis to ensure an organisation operates as economically as possible, or in the design of major emergency plans, that Identify the goals and objectives for the emergency response plan and define what your emergency response team is expected to do during an emergency. The Techma experts are also competent to discuss and design Disaster Management Plans that involves planning what to do before, during and after a disaster or emergency occurs. We believe it is vital that senior management fully understand these hazards, and by assessing the organisations behaviour to them, we can better prepare for disasters.

Techma follow a risk-informed, performance-based approach which offers opportunities to better understand objectives, identify credible hazards and develop alternatives that allow stakeholders (owners, senior management etc.) to make risk-informed decisions as to how best to protect the plant and to meet disaster mitigation objectives.

H2S Awareness - 1 day course– English / Arabic The aim of the H2S Awareness Course is to give the attendees the knowledge and skill to fully understand what they are required to do in the event that an H2S alarm actuates.

* Confined Space Working and Casualty Extrication - 5 day course – English / Arabic

The aim of the Confined Space Working and Casualty Extrication course is to offer those attending the required knowledge and skills to successfully carry out rescue procedures within a Confined Space, in safety, as part of a trained Emergency Response Unit.

* Fire Team Member - 5 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the Fire Team Member Course is to give the attendees the knowledge and skills to perform as a member of an operational fire team and effectively contribute to the overall efforts of the team in a safe and competent manner.

* Fire Team leader- 5 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the Fire Team Leader Course is to give the attendees the knowledge and skills to perform as the leader of an operational fire team operating within an industrial emergency response unit.

Breathing Apparatus Wearers - 10 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the Initial Breathing Apparatus Wearers Course is to train personnel who have little or no knowledge of wearing breathing apparatus, to be competent to attend any emergency where breathing apparatus is required to sustain life.

Breathing Apparatus refresher – 3 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the BA Wearers Refresher Course is to refresh the skill and competence of those personnel who have previously attended the BA Wearers Course, or equivalent, to enable them to maintain their competence in the wearing of breathing apparatus

* Helicopter Fire Emergency Response - 5 day course – English The aim of this course is to ensure the attendees achieve a level of competence to enable them to act as a Fire Emergency Response Team Member with Helicopter operations responsibilities.

* This denotes that the accreditation, and the course delivery, is awarded to, and delivered by one of our partner organisations.

International Recruit Development - 60 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the Trainee Fire Fighter Development Course is to provide the students with the necessary knowledge and skills to enable them to undertake the large variety of roles required of them in the course of their duties with speed and efficiency in a safe manner.

International Operational Command and Management - 40 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the IOCM course is to contribute to the student’s development of command, management and leadership skills that they will require at station officer level or the equivalent role within an industrial emergency response unit.

Rope Rescue Level 1 Operator - 10 day course – English The aim of the Rope Rescue Level 1 Operator course is to give the students the necessary knowledge and skills they will require to undertake rescues from heights whilst ensuring their own safety and that of their colleagues and the personnel being rescued.

Haz Mats First Responder - 5 day course – English The aim of the Haz Mats First Responder course is to provide a starting point for practical skills development in the management of hazardous materials incidents. The course is short and encourages experiential learning.


HEALTH & SAFETY

NEBOSH Health and Safety at Work– 4 day course – English The aim of Unit 1 of the Award in Health and Safety at Work is to give student the necessary knowledge and information to allow them to fully understand the issues, hazards and control that is needed to ensure a safe working environment.

* NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health– 10 to 15 day course – English The aim of the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is to give managers, supervisors, worker representatives and others an understanding of health and safety principles and practices.

IOSH Managing Safely– 4 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the IOSH Managing Safely course is to assist managers to the get up-to-speed on the practical actions they need to take and gain the knowledge and tools to tackle the safety and health issues they’re responsible for.

IOSH Working Safely– 1 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the IOSH Working Safely course is to improve the safety culture within an organisation by giving individuals a good understanding of their health and safety responsibilities, and teaching them how to keep themselves and others safe at work.

First Aid at Work– 3 day course – English The aim of the First Aid at Work course is to provide attendees with extensive training that builds upon the input given during an Emergency First Aid at Work Course.

Health and Safety Awareness– 1 day course – English The aim of the Health and Safety Awareness course is to introduce the candidate to many aspects of Health and Safety at Work legislation and is intended to help raise safety standards and awareness.

Introduction to Health and Safety– 5 day course – English The aim of the Introduction to Health and Safety course is to furnish participants with a good basic knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), outlining what is required to provide a safe place of work and conform to legislation.

Manual Handling– 1 day course – English The aim of the Manual Handling course is to give attendees the information, knowledge and skills required to enable them to carry-out Manual Handling Risk Assessments to ensure all activities undertaken within the workplace are carried out as safely as possible.

Permit to Work– 1 day course – English The aim of the Permit to Work course is to give attendees the knowledge, skills and competence to comply with the formal management systems that are in place to control high-risk activities.

FIRE SAFETY & DEVELOPMENT

Fire Safety Risk Assessment- 4 day course – English / Arabic The aim of the course is to give attendees a broad understanding of workplace fire safety issues that reviews and adds to your existing knowledge, a detailed understanding of the fire risk assessment process and an awareness of current fire safety legislation.

Fire safety Foundation – Theory - 10 day course – English / Arabic This course provides the knowledge and understanding of basic fire safety principles and addresses the technical, legislative and practical skills required to provide a sound foundation for further learning.

Fire Safety Foundation – Practice - 10 day course – English / Arabic The aim of this course is to follow on from the theoretical general principles of fire safety introduced on the Fire Safety Foundation – Theory course and concentrates on the practical application of skills required for the role of Fire Safety Inspecting Officer.


HOTELS & LIGHT INDUSTRY

Fire Warden– 1 day course – English / Arabic The aim of this course is to assist the employer in meeting the legal requirements to ensure the protection of workers in serious and imminent danger (such as in the event of fire) by having a sufficient number of competent persons to implement the established procedures.

Fire Marshall– 1 day course – English / Arabic The aim of this course is to train personnel to carry out specific duties in the case of fire to ensure the employer can meet international legal requirements. Duties may include organising evacuations, fire drills and the use of portable fire-fighting equipment.

Basic Fire Awareness– Half day course – English / Arabic The aim of this course is to provide selected workers with the ability to utilize the firefighting means at their disposal, after having recognized the type of fire at hand and after having assessed that it is safe to take remedial action.

Fire team Member– 1 day course – English / Arabic The aim of this course is to train those personnel who have to perform as members of a

Fire Team to provide rapid response at basic levels in controlling and extinguishing

localized fires.

Fire team Leader– 1 day course – English / Arabic The aim of this course is impart the knowledge and skills required to those personnel who have been identified as leaders or potential leaders of fire and emergency response teams in hotels or light industry.


TECHMA ACCREDITATIONS

NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) is a UK-based independent awarding body delivering globally recognised vocational qualifications in Health, Safety & Environmental Practice and Management. Techma is accredited by NEBOSH to deliver the Health and Safety at Work qualification.

JOIFF (Joint Oil Industry Fire Forum) is an international Awarding Body that focuses primarily on the prerequisite that training providers are ‘current’ and work to ‘industry best practice’. Techma is accredited by JOIFF to deliver the H2S Awareness Course, the Breathing Apparatus Wearers Course and the Breathing Apparatus Wearers Refresher Course.

IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) is the Chartered body for Health and Safety professionals. It is the world's biggest professional health and safety membership organisation, the voice of the profession that campaigns on issues that affect millions of working people. Techma is accredited by IOSH to deliver the IOSH Working Safely and Managing Safely courses.

Since 1940, IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors) has exclusively represented the worldwide oil and gas drilling industry. Membership is open to any company involved in oil and gas exploration, drilling or production, well servicing, oilfield manufacturing or other rig-site services. Techma is accredited to deliver the IADC Rig Pass course.

Founded in 1896, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) is a global, non-profit organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards. The association delivers information and knowledge through more than 300 consensus codes and standards, research, training, education, outreach and advocacy; and by partnering with others who share an interest in furthering the NFPA mission.

Techma FZCO is in an exclusive partnership with ISTC of Malta to deliver emergency response and HSE training throughout Iran and Iraq.

Both Techma and ISTC believe that by partnering their knowledge, skills and networks, the opportunity to increase business for both

organisations within the territory can increase dramatically. The parties wish to maximise the benefits each of them can achieve by operating together within the two countries whilst minimising the risks, which may accrue to them as a result of such activity.

By introducing ISTC to our customers, we are able to offer a far wider range of training capabilities that are not within the current competencies of Techma. These include:

ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) is a specialised agency of

BRIEF PRESENTATION of PIGIER TREMA

The Origins: Gervais PIGIER founded his first School of Commerce in 1850 in Paris. He trained students and adults for careers in business in a practical way. The approach was very successful. Through an innovative

franchising system, Pigier schools and training centres were started first in France, then abroad (Alexandria-Egypt in 1912, Athens-Greece in 1916, Beirut–Lebanon in 1920, …).

The System: All Pigier business programs and training seminars are practical, focused on know-how and concerned with professional skills. Pedagogy relies heavily on active learning methods, case studies and simulations. Languages of training and teaching are English, Arabic or French. Programs cover:

TIG welding - 2 days’ course – English This course includes both theory and practical sessions that will help equip the trainee to perform satisfactory TIG welding by learning its materials, equipment, safety and techniques. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Explain the principles of TIG welding • Identify the components to begin TIG welding • Identify and explain the controls for the TIG process • Identify the key features and benefits of the TIG process • Give guidance on the selection of appropriate equipment for TIG welding applications

Manual Arc welding (S.M.A.W) M.M.A- 2 days’ course – English This course is designed to enable the student to recognize and apply proper fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Demonstrate safe workplace practices by identifying potential hazards by reading Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and using appropriate PPE for the task

• Describe and employ safe work practices • Recognize and interpret weld symbols • Perform welds in accordance with the standard

MIG / MAG welding Technology- 2 days’ course – English This course is designed to provide trainees with basic knowledge and understanding of the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) / Metal Active Gas (MAG) process. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Gain practical knowledge and understanding of GMAW/MIG-MAG process • Identify common types of consumables and equipment used in GMAW/MIG-MAG process • Perform the basic technique using the applicable consumables and equipment

Oil & Gas Pipes Fabricator- 2 days’ course – English This course includes theory-based teaching on Piping Isometric Drawings, Pressure Vessels and Storage Tank Fabrication Drawings. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will:

• Know how to read drawings (construction, tank, isometric, structural, etc.)

• Be able to identify and select applicable materials for a specific purpose

• Know how to do a dimensional check

• Perform fabrication of piping, pressure vessels, storage tanks, etc.

Welding practice and qualification – English Practical training on each welding method can be delivered in order to obtain welding qualifications. Duration to be defined case by case according to applicant skills, process and qualification to be obtained.


NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING (NDT) & INSPECTION

Essential of Non Destructive Tests - 5 day course – English (TSSTC Certificate) This course will present the main Non Destructive Testing methods supported by case studies from real cases encounter by the course leader: Upon satisfactory completion of the course, students will be able to:

• Understand the basic principles of each method and define related areas of application • Differentiate and appreciate each method on a case by case scenario • Identify advantages and disadvantages of every method • Understand and weigh information provided by NDT reports
