Medical Training

• Having the ability to act safely, promptly and effectively when in an emergency;

• Have the ability to administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation [CPR] promptly and effectively;

• Know how to administer first aid safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is unconscious;

• Have the ability to safely, promptly and effectively to a casualty who is bleeding or wounded;

• Administering first aid to a casualty who:

- has been burned or scalded; - is suffering from shock; - has an eye injury - may be poisoned; - has been overcome by gas or fumes Ability to transport a casualty safely as required by the circumstances of the workplace;

Ability to recognize common major illnesses and take appropriate action;

Maintain simple factual records and provide written information to a doctor or hospital if required;

This is not an exhaustive list and additional competencies are required for the STCW95 regulations and the RYA courses.

All courses will be tailored to meet the clients’ requirements.

First Aid at Work: –

This course meets the full requirements set out by the HSE in accordance with the ‘Health And Safety [First Aid] Regulations1981’ and the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance L74 and HSG212.

It is aimed at that staffs that are required to act as fully qualified [suitable person] first aiders in the workplace.

Duration of the course is a minimum of 24 contact hours which is held usually over 4 days or sessionaly up to 13 weeks including independent assessment.. Requalification First Aid at Work: -

This course meets the full requirements set by the HSE in accordance with the ‘Health And Safety [First Aid] Regulations 1981’ and the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance L74 and HSG212.

It is required to be renewed every three years to enable the first aider to remain qualified.

Duration of the course is a minimum of 12 contact hours which is held usually over two days or sessionaly up to six weeks including the independent assessment.

HSE GUIDELINES

Early years and Paediatric First Aid: -

This course is aimed at those who are responsible for applying first aid treatment and care to children under the age of 8. It meets the criteria set by the DCSF [Department for children, schools and families]

Duration of the course is a minimum of 12 contact hours which is held usually over two days or sessionaly up to 6 weeks including the continuous assessment. Renewable every three years.

Emergency First Aid: -

This is a basic course in workplace first aid aimed at giving people the basic knowledge and skills to manage the situation until a fully qualified first aider or other appropriate person arrives to take over the management of the situation. It is an appropriate level course for the ‘APPOINTED PERSON’Duration of the course is six hours, including the continuous assessment. Renewable every three years.

Defibrillation and Oxygen Training: -

This is a basic course aimed at giving people the basic knowledge and skills in how to use an AED and oxygen. Ideally this is a course offered to people who have already obtained first aid knowledge and training.

The duration of the course is four hours.

MCA and RYA Courses

Maritime Coastguard Agency [Approved] And Merchant Navy Board MNTB [STCW 95 Regs.]

Elementary First Aid: -This is a course aimed at people who go to sea either through their employment or for leisure purposes. It gives people the basic knowledge of what to do in the event of an emergency whilst at sea. There are no pre-course requirements.Duration of the course is six hours, plus a practical assessment.

Medical First Aid: -This course is aimed at people who are designated to provide medical First Aid on board ship. Entry requirements: Elementary First Aid or equivalent received within the last 5 years, and have at least six months sea-time on a merchant vessel, seafarers who were at sea for at least 12 months before August 1998 are not required to take the Elementary First Aid course before attending the Medical First Aid course and be at least 16 years old.Duration: 3.5 days/21 hours

Proficiency in Medical CareThis course is aimed at ship’s Captains / Masters and anyone who has responsibility for the Medical Care of personnel on board ship. Entry requirements: A medical first aid certificate within previous 5 years or a proficiency in Medical Care certificate within the previous 5 years or a Ship Captain’s Medical Certificate or First Aid at Sea issued before August 1998 have at least six months sea time experience.Duration: 5 days / 30 hours

Proficiency in Medical Care RefresherThis course is aimed at those who have an existing proficiency in Medical Care certificate which is due to expire. Entry requirements: A proficiency in Medical Care certificate within the previous 5 years or a Ship Captain’s Medical Certificate or First Aid at Sea issued before August 1998Duration: 3 days

ROYAL YACHTING ASSOCIATION APPROVED

Elementary First Aid: - This is a course aimed at people who go to sea. It gives people the basic knowledge of what to do in the event of an emergency at sea.Duration of the course is six hours, including the continuous assessment.

ALS MEDICAL is able to offer professional nursing and trauma trained staff [with all necessary equipment i.e. transport, stretchers etc.] to cover any major events e.g. concerts, football matches, festivals, film locations or any major crowd gathering events.

ALS MEDICAL,[ thanks to the help from its mother company ‘SEA TRAINING INTERNATIONAL LTD’] is also in a unique position of being able to offer event cover to the marine industry. ALS MEDICAL has at its disposal various specialized emergency rescue craft including fully coded self-righting RIB’s. All this equipment is ready for transportation and easy deployment.
