Other considerations or risk controls that need to be documented? - Ongoing communication with Moreland City Council and VicRoads about installing traffic lights and pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Urquhart Street and Pentridge Boulevard outside the school. In the meantime, we communicate with students and parents about crossing safely at Bell Street instead of that intersection. - 17 signs have been installed to clarify that pick up and drop off is no longer within the staff car park because the school has grown in numbers so it is too dangerous for students to walk, scoot or skate into the school through the car park if there are many cars dropping off there. Letters have been issued to all parents clearly explaining the new regulations and these have also been posted on our parent portal (Compass). Courier and/or delivery drop off points

The following safety features are in place to ensure that deliveries of various items to the workplace is undertaken in a safe manner:

• Designated courier and/or delivery drop off points are located at: - Parking spaces in front of Bytes Café (our school canteen).

• Courier and/or delivery drop off points are clearly marked by: - Signage and markings on road and car parking spots.

• Worksite speed limits are set at (10 km/hr) with clearly displayed signage located at: - There are four signs along the driveway.

• Speed controlling devices are in place to restrict vehicle speed on site: - Two speed humps are located on main driveway.

• Other considerations that may need to be documented? - The VCAA entrance to the school is closed during the day to prevent people using the

school as a thoroughfare or shortcut through. The main entrance gate remains open for visitors and deliveries throughout the day.

Safe passage of vehicles in Coburg High School (large vehicles, buses, 4WD, mobile plant etc.)

The following safety arrangements and features are in place when large vehicles or mobile plant such as tractors, forklifts or ride on mowers are required to move around the worksite:

• Vehicles are not allowed to move around the school grounds during the following time periods of peak pedestrian traffic:

- Student pick up and drop off times in the morning and afternoon. • Prior to entering Coburg High School, drivers of large vehicles must report to Sally Boyd, Business

Manager on 9353 1700 to arrange for a member of staff to act as a “spotter” to supervise vehicle movements whilst on site.

• Forklifts are only to be used in clearly marked areas as designated on the site map. • Worksite speed limits are set at (10 km/hr) with clearly displayed signage located at:

- Roadways are of sufficient width to allow for cars going in both directions to pass each other safely

- The VCAA entrance to the school is closed during the day to prevent people using the school as a thoroughfare or shortcut through. The main entrance gate remains open for visitors and deliveries throughout the day.

Parking arrangements The following safety arrangements and features are in place to minimise the risks associated with vehicle parking:

• There are 80 car parks available for employees, 8 car parks available for visitors and 3 car parks available for people with disabilities.

• Car parking areas are clearly designated with marked parking bays and signage displayed in the following areas:

- At the entrance to the staff car park and at the drop off roundabout at the front of the school.

• Signage identifying the whereabouts of the Office/Reception is clearly visible from the car park and is located at:

- The edge of the staff car park where the pedestrian pathway begins—there is a large map of the school located there.

- There is also signage outside the gym (where there were numerous instances of visitors going there because they thought it was the school office) to indicate to visitors to turn around to find the right reception area.

• Other considerations or risk controls that may need to be documented? - External lighting has been fixed but in some areas it is aging so needs to be monitored. -

Special Events (e.g. Fetes, Sporting Events etc.) Traffic control requirements for special events may vary. Specific control measures will need to be determined through a risk assessment process taking into consideration learning’s from previous special events.

The following broad safety arrangements and features are in place to minimise the risks associated with special events in conjunction with previously documented control measures: • Appropriate numbers of traffic controllers will be in place for all special events to restrict/direct

traffic to and from the workplace. • Additional car parking areas are clearly designated with marked parking bays and signage

displayed in the following areas: - Along the north section of the school driveway and the oval

• Other considerations or risk controls that need to be documented: - Ensuring that the visitors to the East Coburg Tennis Club in front of the school are made

aware that the school gates will be closed at 7.30pm and that they are not to park inside the school grounds (which they had done previously).

This is the intersection that we are working with VicRoads and Moreland City Council to improve safety for students. So far, council have added additional signs indicating that this is the turn off for Coburg High School.

Despite our requests, VicRoads have refused to decrease the traffic speed on Bell Street to 40km/hr.
