We have divided this section into bauhaus, art deco, antique and traditional, each with their own

variations within. The 'distinctions' range includes modern and classic lines all produced from our

brass foundry in the UK. The 'reflections' range includes designs sourced from all round the world.

Springs in Handles:Levers may be unsprung, sprung or ‘spring-assist’. Whilst there are prosand cons to each type, the main issue is that the latch or lock with which itis to work is suitable for the application. Whilst a heavy sprung handle/lockcombination may be appropriate for an office, it may not suit the residentsof an elderly persons residential home for instance. We are happy to adviseon this and will provide a specification to avoid incompatibilities.

Finishes:Not all products are suitable for external use and the combination of basematerial and surface finish are important factors.In general all finishes tarnish eventually, however some are better thanothers. For harsh environments we recommend:

• Stainless Steel Grade 316.

• Most applied finishes on a solid brass base (chrome, nickel, etc).

• ‘Stainless’ brass, a brass coloured durable coating on a stainless steel base now common on ‘traditional’ residential levers.

• Powder Coated finishes on steel, our coloured nylon range by ‘Hewi’ or the residential Black Antique range.

Note - many solid brass products are lacquered. Whilst lacquer delaystarnishing it will eventually break down and require removaland subsequent polishing. It can be preferable to take unlaquered brassand accept that it will require cleaning. Alternatively the tarnished look canmake the product look more authentic and in keeping with its environment.
