E3 MATRIX SERIES
E3 MATRIX SERIES is a thermosetting epoxy matrix family with process temperatures ranging from 80°C
to 140°C; The system is designed for structural applications and is available in several product variants
including one for Flame Retardant applications (complying with UL94 V-0 specifications for carbon fiber
laminate thickness from 3.6mm onward); FR third party lab certifications are available upon request.
The viscosity of the system epoxy matrices offer flexible processing and a range of handling characteristics.
E3 matrix exhibit high mechanical properties and, properly postcured, can be used at continuous operating
temperatures up to 100°C. Higher not continuous operating Temperatures can be supported
Product Variants
E3-150: Standard, unpigmented
E3-150 N: Light black pigmented
E3-150 N2: Heavy black pigmented
E3-150HM: Hotmelt version, unpigmented (-150HMRF: special version; low dielectric epoxy system)
E3-300: Flame Retardant (experimental grade)
E3-120: Designed for structural applications and can be used for very large components (low exotherm)
Features
- general structural applications
- good mechanical performances
- high toughness

Exotherm test (E3-120)
The E3-120 range of prepregs are designed for industrial applications where a great control of adiabatic heat build up
(exotherm) is required in order to reduce dwell phases during the curing cycle.

Availability
E3 series prepregs are available in a wide range of reinforcing fabrics and UD tapes, including carbon, aramid,
glass and special fabrics.
Note: Where the intended end application is for a cosmetic product, customers are advised to consult a
Microtex Composites sales representative for specific advice when placing an order for material.
Exotherm risk
This matrix system can undergo severe exothermic heat up during the curing process if incorrect
procedures are followed. Great care must be taken to ensure that safe heating rates, dwell temperatures
and lay up/bagging procedures are properly executed, especially when moulding solid laminates with more
than 8mm thickness. The risk of exotherm increases with lay up thickness and increasing cure temperature.
It is strongly recommended that trials, representative of all the relevant processing parameters, are carried
out by the user to allow a safe cure cycle to be specified. It is also important to recognize that the model or
tool material and its thermal mass, combined with the insulating effect of breather/bagging materials can
affect the risk of exotherm in particular cases. Please contact our technical department for further
information on exotherm behavior of these systems.
Storage Conditions
This prepreg should be stored as received in a cool dry place or in a refrigerator.
After removal from refrigerator storage, prepreg should be allowed to reach room temperature before
opening the polyethylene bag, thus preventing condensation.
(A full reel in its packaging can take more than 1 day).
Precautions for Use
The usual precautions when handling uncured resins and fibrous materials should be observed, and a Safety
Data Sheet is available for this product.
