THE CHINESE NEW YEAR

First of all the Chinese new year is NOT called the Chinese new year anymore. It is called the lunar new year. It is because so many people around the world celebrate it.

THE LANTERN FESTIVAL

Now, the lantern festival. Chinese people make fish

or bird shaped lanterns and light them. They also

climb to the top of mountains or hills to see the full

moon. The lantern festival also ends the Chinese new

year.

THE MOON CAKE FESTIVAL

The moon cake festival. It also can be the fall

festival. On the moon cake festival people trade

moon cakes with other people. Moon cakes are

usually filled with-red bean paste, almond paste, or

eggs.

THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

People celebrate the dragon boat festival in

southern china. It is held in memory of Qu Yuan the

poet. Qu Yuan killed himself by throwing himself in a

river to protest the government. The other people

that knew him respected him and wanted give him a

proper funeral and burial. The Chinese people got

rice dumplings and threw them into the water to

distract the fish while they looked for him in the

water. They never found him, but they still have a

celebration.

THE ICE AND SNOW

It is 22 below 0 in northern china. The ice and snow festival is to have them enjoy the cold weather. For the festival they ice sculpure`s of animals, plants, and buildings. Some of them have names like- moon palace or vivid pagoda. They used to light up the ice scupures at night. Now they make ice lanterns by a block of ice, hollowing it out and puting a colored candel in the hollowed ice and lighting it up.
