This unique five day module is designed to give participants a practical front desk experience on both the buy side and sell side of the financial industry. The course is delivered utilizing trading terminals and cutting-edge technology, including live and simulate dmarkets.

The first three days will be dedicated to trading and managing risk in live market conditions and across multiple asset classes as candidates develop detailed understanding of contemporary price

drivers, technical analysis and the dynamic interdependencies of asset price correlations.

For the last two days candidates will manage client deal flow from the objective of a sellside bank as they act as market makers and maximise commission whilst maintaining a low exposure to risk. This programme takes place on a dedicated trading floor, allowing candidates to apply theory at their own trading desks, in live and simulated market environments.

This course will be delivered in a Dealing Room. Each day will start

with three hours of lecture delivery before candidates then move to

their trading desks to implement the theory taught by using cutting-

edge trading software in live and simulated market conditions.

By the end of this practical course participants will be able to:

• Understand through direct experience the objectives of an investment bank (sell side) trader in comparison to one of a buy side institution.

• Understand the concept of market making and the difference between order driven and quote driven prices

• Learn through practical application the key concepts of risk management as you manage positions in uncertain market environments

• Gain first-hand experience in the importance of behavioural finance and trading psychology within an environment of uncertainty and risk

• Receive live mentoring support and advice from experienced traders at Amplify Trading based in London as they continuously monitor your trading and market making performance throughout the course

Day One: Trading Equity Indices and Currency Pairs

Day Two: Trading Bonds and Commodities

Objectives: To introduce and submerge candidates into contempo-rary market dynamics and familiarise candidates with the core con-cepts driving asset prices in today’s markets. Candidates are trained on how to use the institutional trading software and implement risk

limits and technical analysis trading across equities and currency pairs. Test trading strategies taught during the day, including both ‘classic’ and ‘aggressive’ approaches.

Objectives: To apply bond theory taught across different durations of US Treasuries and German government bonds. Trade across the yield curve and understand the effect of contemporary monetary policy on fixed income valuations. To apply a practical understanding of price

discovery in energy products and the precious metal market, trading Nymex crude oil and gold futures on Globex. To apply more advanced technical analysis tools and implement more advanced risk manage-ment protocols.

Day Three: Multi-asset class trading strategies, risk management and trading psychology

Objectives: To introduce through practical experience the psychology of risk as traders have their trading accounts rebalanced and they execute across all assets in direct competition during the day. Performance will be judged not just on

profitability, but how that profit is made. Candidates will be taken through profiling techniques to assess their approach to risk and re-ceive qualitative feedback on their decisions at the end of the session.

Objectives: To introduce candidates to the differences in roles and objectives between buy side institutions and those that operate on the sell side. To allow candidates to understand the need for market makers and how they are incentivised to provide deals for their clients.

Objectives: To advance candidates onto market making for products traded in quote driven markets. Candidates learn directly the challenges presented by variable liquidity and volatility.

Candidates now move to the sell side market making part of the course. The first day will focus on operating within order driven markets and the second day will focus on less liquid quote driven markets.
