A 3D scanner is a device that translates and analyzes the prop-erties of an object and translates it to a digital manageable data. To achieve this purpose there exists different technologies such as • laser scanning, • white light scanning, • stereo photogrammetry • and more (such as using your own basic camera).

Currently this technology is used in several fields such as medi-cine, product design, cultural heritage, animation, reverse engi-neering and more.

FLAAR Reports has been attending Rapid Conference and Ex-position Tradeshow on Additive Manufacturing, 3D Imaging, software and scanners for several years now with the purpose of investigating this new technologies and their application on cultural heritage, especially artifacts in the Mayan culture. In the past FLAAR Reports has worked with several scanners and 3D software provided through the assistance of IBProcadd in Slove-nia, such as Zcorp scanners and Geomagic software.

For 2012-2013 we wish to scan seashells (used by the Maya as jewelry, and other shells were worn by deities such as God N. We also wish to scan exotic tropical fruits and vegetables of sizes and shapes not known to people in USA and Europe. Plus we are interested in scanning the sacred trees which have coni-cal spines around their base. So we look forward to having scan-ners and software available to us so we can evaluate this equip-ment for museum applications, and applications for botanists.

We are especially interested in scanning systems and software which can scan moving subjects, since it is hard to keep a jaguar quiet. We wish to scan all the creatures which the ancient Maya considered sacred.

Because there are different types of scanning technology and uses, we are presenting the properties of each scanner exhibit-ed at Rapid 2012 with technical details and general information.

Due to the lack of information and brochures, we did extra research to find more information about this scanner accesory for the MDX-20 and MDX-15. Its a contact digitizer to scan physical parts for reverse engineering, product design, wood-working, and more.
