WELCOME to this year’s Tractorand Machinery Showcase, whichhighlights all that is new in farmmachinery. The focus is ontractors and machines launchedduring the second half of 2011,which culminated inAgritechnica.

As expected, the world’slargest farm machinery showprovided a glut of new machines.The most important are coveredin three colour-coded sections forquick reference – general, arableand livestock.

Some of the new tractors ondisplay at Agritechnica (p4-14)are available now, while otherswill follow later this year. Tomake things simple, our tractorspecifications section (p16) fortractors over 100hp, highlights allcurrently available ones.

In the arable section, workingwidths appear to have reachedthe limit. However, there is plentyof new wider grassland kit.

In this issue we also reflect onwhat the tractor market is doingin Europe and the UK (p2). Aftertwo years of plummeting sales,the market bounced back lastyear. Suppliers are in an upbeatmood, predicting further stabilityfor the coming season.

GENERAL TRACTOR MARKET OUTLOOK

Last year will beremembered for thesizeable upturn in newtractor sales acrossEurope. The burning

question now is whether thisnew-found optimism willcontinue during 2012.

The recovery of the tractormarket during 2011 is nothingshort of astonishing. About188,000 new tractors sold in NorthAmerica, another 78,000 in SouthAmerica, well over a million inother international markets, andmore than 170,000 in Europe.

Bouncing backThe rapid upturn in fortunes is instark contrast to the same time ayear ago, when major tractorsuppliers predicted Euro tractorsales would not climb back abovethe 160,000 mark before 2014 atthe earliest.

So, just why has the sectorbounced back so quickly? Somesay it is driven by higher cerealprices and increased demand formeat and milk.

Others believe farmers haverealised they have not reallybeen affected by the recession ofthe past two years and thatEurope’s current problems arepurely political.

We still need to eat, is themessage, and with the global

population already through the seven billion mark and on theway to nine billion by 2050,farming would certainly appearto have a future.

Whatever the reason, all of themajor tractor makers confirmEuro tractor sales rosesignificantly last year, and ourbest guess is for an 8-12 per centincrease to somewhere in theregion of 173,000-175,000 units(see graph).

All suppliers confirm stronggrowth in many Euro tractormarkets. Big increases are notedin France (up 20 per cent), and in

Germany, where new tractorsales rocketed by more than 25per cent last year.

Fendt is certainly looking backat 2011 as the best year in itshistory, and one which saw

SUPPLIERS argue it is difficult tolook to the future, but manybelieve some Euro markets mayincrease or decrease by a fewper cent. Overall, they expect2012 numbers to remain

at a similar level to 2011.The AEA has a similar

message, and predicts the UKtractor market could remain atthe current level at around13,750 units.

tractor production hit 15,000units – not far short of its all-time peak in 2008 of 15,428units.

It is a similar message at Valtra,which made 9,500 new tractors –a big increase on 2010 levels.

Closer to home, the officialfigures are not yet out, but theUK tractor market rallied slightlylast year by around 3 per cent to around 13,750 units (see table).

Average UK tractor power also increased slightly, by anestimated 1 per cent to 144 or145hp.

Many freshly-launched Stage 3btractors feature inour tractorspecifications table

(p16-28), while others willfollow later in the year.

The cards are on the table,with most suppliers going downthe SCR (Selective CatalyticReduction) route.

This even includes Belarus,which recently revealed its firstStage 3b tractor – the 355hp3522.5, which takes its powerfrom a Deutz SCR engine. Thistractor is not yet available, and istherefore not listed in our guide.

John Deere, the only bigname to remain with EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation),could soon be joined by Zetorand Kubota.

Previewed at Agritechnica,and unlikely to be availableuntil the end of the year,Kubota’s first Stage 3b-compliant tractor, the US-built135hp M135GX, also features afour-cylinder EGR engine.

UpdatesIt was not present at theHannover Fairgrounds, but therecent sighting of the newForterra 140 at the Brnofactory, suggests Zetor too willuse mechanical gas recirculationmethods to meet therequirements.

While the new Belarus andZetor tractors are not yetincluded on our tractorspecifications pages, comparedto last year, almost every otherentry required quite a thoroughupdate. That is with onenotable exception – theChallenger MT700 and MT800.

Challenger has stockpiledsufficient engines to retain thecurrent Stage 3a ones as long aspossible. With a bit of luck,next year’s entry will, at the very least, include new Stage 3bMT700s.

appetite for more power. Just afew years ago it was suggested300hp would be the limit forconventional tractors. Notanymore, because all the majorsuppliers offer tractors nudging400hp.

Recent additions, such as theJohn Deere 8630 (p8) takepower through 400hp to 409hp,while the Claas Axion 950 (p5)packs an even more powerful419hp.

It is not yet available, butCase IH (p4) has developed aneven more powerful Magnum,which peaks at 419hp.

New Holland also has a newflagship T8 (p13), whichproduces a similar output.

It does not end there becauseSame Deutz-Fahr has startedwork on a 440hp tractor. Youcan be sure when it is unveiledat the 2013 Agritechnica thatmany other players will havesimilar, possibly even morepowerful, models.

Articulated tractor power alsocontinues on an unstoppableupwards trend. John Deere’s

new 9560 hits 616hp. NewHolland’s 9.670 peaks at 669hpand the Case IH Quadtrac 600 at670hp.

A few years ago Case IHproduced a poster of a 1,000hprubber-track Quadtrac tractor –at the time seen by cynics as abit of a joke.

However, the need toimprove efficiency willundoubtedly lead to even largertractors to satisfy power-hungryfarms.

Stage 4 enginesIt remains to be seen whatplans Challenger has for itsMT800, the Stage 3a version ofwhich currently peaks at 609hp(MT865).

It is hinted new versions,possibly already Stage 4-compliant, may be ready for the2013 Agritechnica.

The burning question now iswhat plans parent companyAgco has with the newly-developed 12-cylinder Sisuengine previewed at the 2011edition of the German show.

The result of joining a pair ofsix-cylinder engines, the V12develops a minimum of 700hp,and possibly much more. Theinclusion of this engine in aChallenger tractor wouldcertainly create quite a stir.

Consider this; Sisu also makesa seven-cylinder engine. Justimagine the power if they cancome up with a way to marrytwo of them.

Surely only a fool can ruleout the prospect of a 1,000hptractor appearing in a futureedition of this magazine.

Challenger will be sticking with Stage 3a engines for the coming season,but what will Agco do with its newly-developed V12 engine (right)?

CASE IH Magnum CVX

November’s Agritechnica event was used by all leading tractor suppliers to reveal new Stage 3b-compliant tractors, many of which will appear in the UK during the course of this year.

TRACTORS

THE Maxxum EfficientPower seriescomprises six new four- and six-cylinder 110-140 hp tractors.

Replacing the previous Maxxumline-up, these latest models areavailable in two series which differmainly in their control concepts.The upper range is the MaxxumMulticontroller EP line, featuringas standard the Multicontrolleroperating system.

All models are powered four-cylinder (4.5-litre) and six-cylinder(6.7-litre) SCR engines, whichdeliver 10 per cent more power ata reduced engine speed of1,900rpm.

For the first time, the Maxxumfeatures constant engine speed.This enables precise regulation ofdriving speed and PTO speed –ideal for spraying, muck-spreadingand precision farmingapplications.

A new idle speedmanagement software functionhas been developed to further

reduce fuel consumption andoperating costs. If the driver hasleft the cab and no electronichydraulic outlets are in use orthe hitch is not being used, theengine automatically reducesidling speed from 850 to 650rpmafter 30 seconds of idling.

HighlightAnother highlight is the new four-pillar design Surround cab, whichprovides a glass area of 5.78sq.m,and interior noise levels of just71dBA.

Finally, all Maxxum EP modelsare available with either two-step(24x24) or four-step (16/17x16)powershift transmissions. Thepowershuttle lever on the left sideof the steering wheel enables theoperator to change tractordirection without operating theclutch.

Built at the St Valentin plant inAustria, the new tractors areavailable now.

EUROPEAN farm and contractordemand for high HP CVT tractorsis behind Case IH’s decision toboth preview the most powerfulMagnum tractor so far atAgritechnica and also announceits CVX continuously variabletransmission (CVT) is coming as anoption to the rest of the Magnumrange.

Power to the new flagshipMagnum 370 CVX comes from an8.7-litre SCR FPT engine, whichpeaks at 419hp.

The four-range CVXtransmission offers step lessacceleration from 0 to 40kph or50kph without having to changegear. Combined with AutomaticProductivity Management (APM),this allows the tractor to setengine speed and transmissionoutputs which are optimallymatched to different andchanging working conditions.

Also there is added controlgiven from the ‘Active Stop’hillside stop control without theuse of brakes.

A more robust rear axle addsthe benefit of using larger tyrediameters front and rear,improving both area of contact inthe field and road speedefficiency.

ControlAccording to the company,operators can use theMultiControl Armrest – a designand control system now commonto Case IH Maxxum, Puma andSteiger and Quadtrac tractors – tocontrol the CVX transmission in amanner similar to, yet even easierto operate than, the fullpowershift transmissions.

The Magnum 370 CVX is notexpected to be available until theend of 2012.

CASE IH Farmall U

AS well as a new design, the 90,100 and 110 Farmall UEfficientPower series feature anew 3.4-litre common railengine, which features awastegate turbocharger andintercooler and an external EGRsystem to meet Stage 3arequirements.

These latest tractors also

deliver an increase in power inall areas, including PTO andhydraulics, and are equippedwith a number of valuable newfeatures.

A wide range of transmissionsis available. A 12x12powershuttle is standard, whileoptions include a 24x24powershuttle with two-stage

powershift or 20x20powershuttle with creeper gears.

The rear axle is available as aheavy-duty version for 38in tyres.This axle can be equipped with ahydraulic differential lock andbrakes with a 4WD option ifrequired.

The first deliveries of the newtractors are expected Q2 2012.

CLAAS Xerion 4500/5000

CLAAS Axion 900CLAAS has added four new CVTtractors to round off its range ofstandard tractors and overlapwith its Xerion tractor range.

Previewed at Sima lastFebruary, the Axion 900 rangewith continuously variabletransmission (CVT) marks thecompany’s entry into a newmarket sector.

With power outputs between320hp and 420hp, Claas says thenew tractors are not areplacement for the smaller 3300and 3800 Xerions, but tocomplement them.

The Xerions are specialisttractors designed primarily for in-field work, says Claas, while thenew Axions are more of atraditional all-rounder, capable ofboth field and road operations.

Power comes from a FiatPowertrain Technologies (FPT)Cursor 9, 8.7-litre engine, whichuses SCR technology to meetStage 3b emission regulationsusing AdBlue to after-treatexhaust gasses.

With no chassis, the Axion’sload-bearing FPT engine has beenbuilt to Claas’s specifications witha self-supporting crank case andembedded sump.

With a 3.15m long wheelbaseand an overall length of 5.56m,

the 900 feels like a relativelycompact tractor for its power. Itweighs 13.1 tonnes un-ballasted,which is distributed 44 per centon the front axle, and 56 percent on the rear with amaximum permissible weight of 18 tonnes.

OptionsAs an option, an up to 6.8-tonneintegrated front linkage can befactory-fitted with four servicevalves, light socket and IsoBusconnection.

Its transmission comes from ZFand features four automaticmechanical ranges, which transmit60 to 100 per cent of mechanicalpower at all times, taking theAxion seamlessly from 0kph to50kph.

Essentially, there are two modesof driving, automatic via the travelpedal or CMotion lever, or manualby modulating the throttle andtransmission. The operator can set-up, and select three target speedson the move. For example; one forroad, one for field work, and one

for headland turns.The Axion 900 features a four-

pillar cab with mechanicalsuspension. Inside, most controlsare located on the armrest withprimary functions residing on theCMotion control lever, which hasbeen sculpted to fit an operator’shand.

This enables the direction oftravel, target speeds, cruisecontrol, hydraulics, linkage,headland management and GPSsteering to be controlled with justthree fingers.

ORIGINALLY announced atAgritechnica 2009, the newXerion 4500 and Xerion 5000have been brought fully tomarket, and top off the Claashigh HP tractor range.

With maximum poweroutputs of 483hp and 524hprespectively, the two newcomersjoin the existing 340hp Xerion3300 and 388hp Xerion 3800.

The Cat-powered Xerion 4500and 5000 feature a completelynew design, based around a fullframe chassis, from which themajor components aresuspended. This, says Claas,allows the tractors to absorb fargreater weights than aconventional tractor.

Eccom CVT with a maximumtravel speed of 50kph.

FunctionsIn the cab, all the mainoperating functions arecontrolled using the newCMotion multifunction controllever. This is designed so all themain functions are operatedusing just three fingers, and also

incorporates a hand rest.Currently, each of the two

new Xerions are available withthe option of either a centralfixed position cab or a rotatingcab, which makes the tractorsideal for use with triple mowers.

The rear linkage has amaximum lift capacity of 10tonnes, while the front linkagehas an 8.1-tonne capacity.

DEUTZ-FAHR 7-Series Agrotron TTVTHE launch of the new Deutz-DCRcommon rail engines, which relyon SCR technology to meet Stage3b-compliant exhaust emissions,arrives with a new multi-digitmodel designation for future newtractor models.

Instead of names, new modelseries numbers will be introduced,starting with Series 1 and currentlyending with the Series 7.

Alongside the serial number,the engine power will be quotedin horsepower (hp), and there willbe a choice of two transmissiontypes for these model series. Thecontinuously variable models willadd the suffix TTV.

Along with the 6170 Agrotronand 6190 Agrotron, another twomodels to get the new modelnumbering and enginetechnology are the 240hp 7230Agrotron TTV and 263hp 7250Agrotron TTV.

With a maximum torque ofmore than 1,000Nm (dependingon the model), the new DeutzTCD four-valve turbo diesel 6.1-litre Stage 3b engines offerplenty of power for even the mostdemanding tasks.

The engines are the mainreason for the update, but these

latest tractors also incorporating anumber of other features.

Take the TTV transmission, forexample. The improved responseof the engine means thetransmission recognises andresponds to changes in load andtraction and ensures greater safetywhen towing trailers on the road.

All come equipped with thenew PowerCom V controlmanagement system, which hasbeen re-designed. A feature newto Deutz-Fahr is the ability, wherelegal, to reach a potential topspeed of 60kph, which means50kph can be attained with aengine speed of just 1,650rpm.

High-specThe new models also feature ahigh-spec pto: three speeds(540E/1000/1000E), with electrohydraulic control, load detectionand proportional start up to helpprotect the attached implement.

With a choice of two Economyspeeds, much pto work can becarried out at lower engine speed.Further improvements to thedriveline include the possibility tofit extendible half-shafts for trackwidth adjustment or to allow thefitting of dual wheels.

All Deutz-Fahr tractors above130hp are now equipped with aload-sensing hydraulic systemcapable of delivering an oil flowrate of 160 litres a minute.

Up to seven electricallycontrolled spools: five at the rearand two at the front, allow forefficient control of compleximplements, including front andrear implement combinations.

All models are equipped withthe new Class S2 cab. The newmultifunction armrest groups alltractor controls in one place,leaving the side consoles free,which now benefit from a newand more ergonomic design.

The new iMonitor has a largerdisplay and touch-screen controls,while the new cab features a newlighting control panel with

intuitive, time-saving controls fora quicker response when working.

In addition to the new sideconsole design and iMonitor,comfort has also been addressedby fitting the latest-generationseat for the driver along with acomfortable passenger seat.

The cab structure has beenimproved with a one-piecewindscreen for improved forwardvisibility and reduced noise inside.

Automatic climate controlsystem is also new, with front airoutlet vents integrated into thesteering column.

Finally, the Electronic ParkingBrake (EPB) with intelligentbraking function regulates thebraking force to suit the load inconjunction with the activecontrol of the TTV transmission.

WITH a production volume ofmore than 550,000 inMannheim, the John Deere6000 Series is billed as Europe’smost successful tractor range,and the latest 6R Series designnow offers new levels ofperformance.

Comprising nine models from105 to 210hp (125 to 240hpwith IPM), the range peakswith the 6210R, which packs apowerful 240hp punch.

Building on the success ofthe previous 6030 Series, thesenew full-frame design 6R Series tractors provide morepowerful hydraulics plus andincreased lift capacities,improved suspension and cabvisibility.

Models from the 6105R to6130R are equipped with aStage 3b 4.5-litre four-cylinder

PowerTech PVX engine ratedfrom 105 to 130hp, with anadditional 20hp for road andPTO applications.

Larger tractors take theirpower from a Stage 3b 6.8-litresix-cylinder PowerTech PVXengines.

DirectDrive

THE newly-developedDirectDrive transmission forJohn Deere’s nine-model 6Rrange features three rangeswith eight shifts in each. Doubleclutch technology provides forquick, smooth gear changes.It can be driven in manual orautomatic mode and isdesigned for tasks whichrequire continuous power,such as ploughing andtowing.

JOHN DEERE 7R JOHN DEERE 6R

THE newly-developed 9R and 9RTSeries are the most powerfultractors John Deere has everbuilt.

The line-up consists of fourwheeled tractors and threetracked versions, to replace the9030 Series introduced in 2007.

All come with John Deere’s13.5-litre PowerTech PSXengines, which use cooledexhaust gas recirculation (EGR)and exhaust filters whichinclude a diesel oxidationcatalyst (DOC) and a dieselparticulate filter (DPF), to meet

Stage 3b regulations.All 9R tractors tracked and

wheeled are fitted with the 18forward/six reverse speedPowerShift transmission withEfficiency Manager. This allowsthem to operate at an optimalperformance level while

minimising fuel consumption.All models feature the newly

designed CommandView II cab,which provides 10 per centbigger overall volume, has 7 percent more glass area and fourtimes as much storage space asthe previous models.

JOHN Deere has announced anumber of 2012 updates to its 8RSeries first previewed last spring.

Offering outputs from 260 to360hp, the 8260R, 8285R, 8310R,8335R and 8360R tractors featurethe new PowerTech PSX nine-litresix-cylinder engine, which, likethe rest of John Deere’s high-HPtractors, comply with Stage 3bemissions without the need forSCR technology and AdBlue.

These latest tractors offer an

increase of 15hp over the previous8R models, with the potential toadd a further 35hp boost usingIntelligent Power Management(IPM) in non-stationary PTO andtransport applications.

New tracked versions – the8310RT, 8335RT and 8360RT –offer increased traction, flotation and pulling power, anda new integrated 5.2-tonnecapacity front hitch is nowavailable ex-factory.

DESIGNED as versatile workhorsesfor contractors and medium-sizedto large arable farms, the 7RSeries tractors are available in fivenew models rated at a maximum230hp to 310hp.

FENDT 700 Vario SCRA COMPACT high-horsepowertractor offering the highest ridecomfort on the market is howFendt describes its new 700 VarioSCR Series tractors from 145 to240hp.

The first three top models werepreviewed last summer. They startwith the 200hp 720 Vario – adirect replacement for thepopular 820 – while customerswanting more power, but still in acompact package, can opt for the220hp 722 Vario and 240hp 724Vario.

At Agritechnica the trio werejoined by three additional modelsin the shape of a new smaller145hp 714 Vario, plus the 165hp716 Vario and 180hp 718 Vario.

The narrow hood design of allsix hides new Stage 3b-compliantpower packs, in this case six-cylinder six-litre Deutz versionsfeaturing fuel-saving SCRtechnology.

As well as the FendtVariotronic, all six tractors alsofeature the newly-developedVisioPlus cab. Offering 5.2sq.m ofglazing, the lack of a B-pillarprovides unrestricted views to theright, while front-end loaderoperators will enjoy the curvedfront screen, which extends rightup into the roof.

But it does not end withspacious and airy, because at just68dBA these are the quietestFendt tractors ever, and customerscan choose from three differentcab suspension options.

Available for the first time inboth single or two-door format,the LED lights either side of the

interior roof panel and on thediesel tank are a nice touch toilluminate the steps when leavingthe tractor in the dark.

Optimal viewThe steering column is now heightand tilt-adjustable, while theintegrated display swings alongwith the steering wheel when it isadjusted to provide operators withan optimal view of all the mostimportant information.

Fendt says tractor hydraulic

connections are often incorrectlyassigned when coupling animplement. With the Fendt Plugand Work coupling shield, up tosix hydraulic connections can beconnected at once without mix-ups.

The shield also has a parkingposition for other hydraulicconnections, for example, theunpressurised return, as well as anelectronic connector for the IsoBusimplement control.

A radio frequency identification

(RFID) chip automaticallyidentifies implements andimmediately loads the savedimplement settings into the Vario-Terminal in the tractor.

Finally, the tractors are nowavailable with a parking positionfor the rear linkage to preventthen from colliding with thedrawbar or PTO when negotiatingcorners.

Also available for the 800 and900 Vario series, this also helps toincrease the steering angle.

FENDT GuideConnect

THE electronics found in tractorsare increasingly being used tofurther automate operationsand processes, such as steering.

Fendt is looking to taketractor automation to a newlevel with a system wherebytwo tractors are connected viasatellite navigation and radiocommunication to form oneunit, where one of the twovehicles is unmanned andperforms the same workingprocedure as the mannedvehicle.

Called GuideConnect,operators use the Vario-Terminal to define which tractor

will be the guiding vehicle(master) and which one willfollow (slave). After inputtingthe following distance of theslave tractor and implementworking width, precise RTK-GPSsatellite positioning andcommunication between thevehicles is via an encodedwireless connection.

Implements on the guidedtractor are automatically raisedat the headland, and theguided tractor stops until theguiding tractor has completedthe turn.

JCB’s new 3000 Series featuremore fuel-efficient 7.4-litre SISUSCR Stage 3b engines, which aswell as a good deal more torque,provide 20 per cent more powerin the top two gears of eachtractor.

The engines feature a user-selectable transport boost,increasing the normal maximumpower output of 195hp for the3200 Xtra to 230hp, and thestandard 230hp output of the3230 Xtra to 270hp.

Other features include a re-designed chassis to improve theturning circle, and both tractorsare upgraded to 540/65R34 tyresall round as standard, while a600/70R30 with the same rollingcircumference becomes thewidest and tallest factory-fittedtyre option.

New mudguards front and rearcover more of each tyre to reducethe amount of water and mudsprayed on to the cab andwindows.

Both tractors feature a newRoad Performance Package,including Traction Assist and HillHold. The latter keeps the brakeson when the driver presses andthen takes his foot of the brakepedal; they are automaticallyreleased when the tractor movesoff, which makes hill starts easierto handle.

A new anti-lock brakingsystem (ABS) gives aproportional and smootherresponse for greater control onfirm, loose or icy surfaces. The

As well as enhancements to theCVT transmission and operation, aone-touch headland managementsystem with additionalfunctionality including distance-based delay, GPS activation,engine speed and travel speed hasalso been introduced.

While retaining the mechanicalconnection that gives the Fastracpositive steering control, the 3200

and 3230 Xtra now comeGuidance Ready so operators caneasily add a full-feature auto-steersystem.

AutomatedAuto-steer integrates with otherautomated features availablethrough the touch-screen terminalintroduced with the Xtraspecification a year ago. Theseinclude Headland Turn Assist,which allows up to 15 differentcontrol actions to be assembledand linked for instant or delayedreaction (determined by time ordistance) into sequences for fivedifferent implements.

Adjustable flow rate and timingfor remote hydraulic cylinders isavailable for both outward andreturn strokes – to help controlbig grass mower combinations,for example – using oil from ahydraulic system upgraded toload sensing status with a variableflow 60cc pump.

The new 3000 Fastracs offer theoption of a rear hitch camera,making it easier to connect andmonitor close coupledimplements. In addition, a newfender-mounted auxiliary spoolcontrol option provides for mucheasier control of the newhydraulic top link option.

MASSEY Ferguson recentlyintroduced its Generation 2Selective Catalytic Reduction(SCR) system as standard on allmodels in the 8600 Series.

Developed in conjunction withSisu and Bosch, this secondgeneration tractors includes amaintenance-free DieselOxidation Catalyser (DOC),located under the existingbonnet, integral exhaustcatalysers and an integratedcontrol unit.

New electrical heating

elements keep the AdBlue at aconstant temperature foroptimum performance in allconditions, and the capacity ofthe AdBlue tank has beenincreased to 60 litres.

Power and torque of the 8.4-litre six-cylinder engine remainunchanged, but these latestversions are equipped with a newhigher pressure common railinjection system and injectors.

Combined with the integratedECU control unit, this providesimproved fuel economy and

reduces rated engine speed to2,100rpm.

Other upgrades include a newheavy-duty front axle asstandard on higher hp modelsand an option on others. Plusthere is a revised Control Armwith new buttons and switches,additional console panel andControl Centre Display softwareupgrades.

MASSEY Ferguson is looking tostrengthen its position in thelivestock and mixed farmingsectors with four new 5400 Seriestractors from 82hp to 107hp.

The four, the 82hp 5420, 92hp5430, 102hp 5440 and 107hp5450, all feature the latest Perkins4.4 litre, four-cylinder mechanicalinjection engines with a sleekhigh visibility bonnet.

Providing an unparalleledview to the loader and front

linkage attachments, this view isfurther enhanced by the Visioroof option.

At the rear the new transaxle,which is specifically developed forthese tractors, offers a maximumlift capacity to 4,300kg, with a 10per cent lift speed increase,compared with current tractors.

Other features include a frontaxle support with integratedloader sub-frame, and a 2.5-tonneintegrated front linkage system.

THE 7600 range consists of fournew models, ranging from 185hpto 235hp (210hp to 260hp withpower management).

Featuring new styling to bring itin line with the 8600 range, powercomes from Stage 3b emissioncompliant Sisu engines withGeneration 2 Selective CatalyticReduction (SCR).

There is a choice of either theDyna-6 transmission, whichprovides a total of 24 speeds infour ranges with six power-shifts,or the Dyna-VT continuouslyvariable transmission.

An Eco feature allows topspeed (either 40kph or 50kph) tobe achieved at low revs.AutoDrive is standard on allmodels, which is a systemdesigned to increase work ratesand lower fuel consumption.

Rear linkage lift capacity is 9,300kg, and there is anoption of a factory-fitted frontlinkage.

Visibility, space and comfort are

improved in the re-designed cab,and the instrument panel nowmoves with the steering wheel asit tilts and telescopes.

The 7600 comes in three mainspecifications. The entry level‘Essential’ features the Dyna-6 Ecotransmission, while the mid-spec‘Efficient’ models are availablewith either the Dyna-6 Eco orDyna-VT transmission. Thesetractors come with bothmechanical and electronic spoolvalve control.

The top-end ‘Exclusive’ packagefeatures more sophisticatedcontrol, and fully electronically-controlled spool valves.

LEANER and greener engineswhich also promise improvedperformance and lower fuelcosts, feature in the McCormickX70 Series tractor AgriArgo UKplans to unveil at Lamma.

Retaining the well-knownXtraSpeed transmission, theX70.80 represents a new five-model range using 6.7-litreBetaPower engines equippedwith a catalytic converter andurea injection system to meetStage 3b.

This six-cylinder tractors willprogressively replace the currentXTX and TTX ranges.

With 214hp output for draftand transport work and up to232hp available when using pto-driven implements, the X70.80takes the range to a higherperformance level than before.

But the X70 models whichreplace the smaller and lighterXTX step up even more withpower boost increases of up to20hp over current models forpto and transport work.

These latest tractors sport anew roof assembly for thespacious four-post cab, withmore headroom and a roofwindow.

FOLLOWING a good responseto the introduction of a singleT-Max model to theMcCormick range earlier thisyear, distributor AgriArgo UKhas decided to offer thecomplete line of 74hp to110hp tractors in Britain.

There are 10 versions in all,with power outputs from thefamiliar Perkins 1104D-44

engine from 74 to 110hp.All feature a new

transaxle with choice ofsynchro or power shuttletransmissions, a generous 3ptlinkage lift capacity withmechanical or electroniccontrol, a four-post cab withroof window for good all-round visibility, and aircon asstandard.

ASIDE from the new X60identification on the bonnet,round headlamps and a newbright finish for the cab-mountedwork lights, the latest addition tothe McCormick range gives fewclues to the extensive differencesbeneath that distinguish it fromthe CX design it replaces.

Yet with more engine power,greater linkage lift capacity and anew transmission, the X60 Seriesbrings new levels of performanceand features to McCormick’s mid-range. In fact, the X60’s four-postDeluxe cab is the only majorassembly carried over from the CX.

The four Perkins-poweredmodels start with the 92hpX60.20, followed by the 101hpX60.30, which matches the mostpowerful model in the CX range.The line-up then moves on to theX60.40 with 110hp output.

At the top of the range, theX60.50 has a modest step-up inpower for draft work at 112hp –

but it has a more significant 11hpadvantage for pto-drivenimplements and road transportwith 121hp output.

The first McCormick four-cylinder tractor to feature a 16-valve cylinder head and commonrail fuel injection with electronicmanagement and two poweroutputs, this allows engine speedto be decreased to just 1,830rpmonce 40kph has been reached.

The new power shuttletransmission provides threepowershift steps as on thesuperseded design, but 12 moreforward speeds for addedversatility. In total, there are 36speeds forward – or 48 when theoptional creep box is added – and12 or 16 speeds in reverse.

An increase in three-pointlinkage lift capacity to 5,000kgand use of lower link rather thantop link draft sensing also helpsthe X60 handle bigger implementsmore effectively.

McCORMICK X60The new design also has moredistinctive treatment for theintegrated front and rear worklamps, with distinctive chrome-effect surrounds distinguishing itfrom the current style.

With production at the ARGOTractors plant in Fabbrico, Italy,progressively switching to thenew X70 Series, supplies ofcurrent XTX and TTX tractorsusing run-out stocks of non-SCRengines will continue to beavailable into early spring.

AVAILABLE from the second halfof 2012, New Holland’s T8tractors now receive acontinuously variabletransmission (CVT) option.

Called Auto Command, therange also features a newflagship model, the T8420.

When it becomes available,

the new tractor will take overthe top position from thecurrent T8.390, which peaks at389hp. The company’s newflagship takes the maximumpower through the 400hpbarrier to 419hp.

Developed in-house, the CVT isa 100 per cent mechanical version.

PREVIEWED at Agritechnica,New Holland says its reinventedT5 range is set to redefine thestandard in the livestock andmixed farming segments.

The T5.95, T5.105 and theT5.115 offer significantlyincreased engine powers ofbetween 99 to 114hp.

As well as the newVisionView cab, these latesttractors feature Stage 3a, 3.4-litre common rail engineswhich provide a 51 per cent

torque back.Other features include

adjustable shuttle sensitivity,new load sensing rear and midmount remotes, a fullyintegrated factory fittedloader, all-new modular frontlinkage and PTO and R38 tyresfor increased ground clearanceand improved traction.

The new T5s will make theirUK debut during grasslanddemonstration activities earlyin summer.

REPLACING the T6000 series,New Holland’s T6 tractorsfeature ECOBlue SCR Nefengines for Stage 3bcompliance.

The seven models include theT6.120, T6.140, T6.150, T6.155,T6.160, T6.165 and T6.175,which span 119hp to 173hp.

Fuel consumption is reducedwith new Engine Idle SpeedManagement (EISM) technology,

which lowers engine idle speedfrom 850rpm to 650rpm incertain conditions, such as whenthe operator is not present andwhen zero throttle is applied.

Combined with the new SCRengines, this leads to a 10 percent reduction in operatingcosts.

Offering a power-to-weightratio of 28.6kg/hp, these latestmodels are likely to appeal to

mixed farms and contractorslooking for a powerful butcompact tractor.

NEW Holland continues to developits hydrogen-powered tractorprogramme with an evolvedversion of its NH2 tractor.

It is based on a New HollandT6.140 production model and willbe able to operate mostimplements.

Compared to the first NH2, thenew model has fuel cells whichdeliver double the power,increased from 50kW to 100kW.

It features one electric motor for

traction and one to operate thepto and auxiliary circuits. Themotors have a power output of100kW, with continuous torque of950Nm and maximum torque of1,200Nm.

Its tank can hold 8.2kg ofpressurised hydrogen, enough tokeep it going for up to threehours.

Hydrogen fuel cells require a lotof cooling, says the manufacturer,hence the prominent cooling packs

mounted on the rear cab posts.The NH2 is to go into service

on an experimental energyindependent farm in Italy duringsummer 2012.

NEW Holland’s T4 PowerStarmodels include the 55 T4.55,65hp T4.65 and 75hp T4.75,all three fitted with 3.2-litre,Stage 3a mechanicalinjection engines.

Major updates to theT4000 series they replaceinclude a completely re-designed and 20 per centbigger cab. The six-pillar cabnow has a flat floor and apassenger seat as standard,opening side windows, aroof light and a betterworking environment.

The traditional 12x12standard gearbox is availablethroughout the range and canbe enhanced with optionalhydraulic shuttle. This steeringcolumn mounted lever can beoperated without removingthe hand from the steeringwheel.

An optional 20x20 creepervariant is available to takespeeds as low as 0.108kph.

VALTRA continues to developdual fuel tractors with a T133running on biogas and diesel.The firm says it offers similarcharacteristics and performance

to a standard tractor but is a lotmore efficient. The 170-litre gasstorage tanks located in thetractor’s frame can keep it goingfor up to five hours.

POWERED by four-cylinder SCRengines, Valtra’s attractively-styledthird generation of N3 seriestractors are made up of sevenmodels ranging from 124hp to172hp.

Offering more power andtorque than previous models, theyalso feature new software andrevised stepless and powershifttransmissions.

Power to the top N163 Versuand Direct models comes from themost powerful four-cylinder

engine in the world, says themanufacturer, producing 163hp asstandard and up to 171hp with thepower boost.

The N3’s nose has beenredesigned to improve visibilityand the front chassis now allows atighter turning circle.

The five-pillar SVC cab is nowavailable on Versu and Directmodels in addition to HiTechmodels, and the capacity of thefuel tank has been increased to230 litres.

VALTRA has re-worked itsengines on the T series tractorranges to comply with Stage 3bemissions standards.

The manufacturer continues toemploy SCR technology to reduceemissions using AdBlue, which issprayed into the exhaust. Valtrasays this technology reduces fuelconsumption by about 5 to 10 percent. The catalytic converters aresituated inside the exhaust pipe,which has a new oval design toimprove visibility.

The resulting T3 series line-uphas now been expanded to

include the T133 and T153,powered by 6.6-litre Sisuengines, plus the T163, T173 andT193 powered by 7.4-litreengines covering 141 to 210hp.

In addition to revised engines,the new T3 series now has acolour display on the armrestwith day and night settings.

The armrest-mounted joystickcan now be used to control frontor rear hydraulics, or both. It isalso possible to change thesettings of the U-Pilot headlandmanagement system and cruisecontrol more precisely.

THE 270hp to 370hp S series nowcomes with a 630-litre fuel tankand the AdBlue tank has beenincreased to 60 litres.

Valtra says, depending on thetask and conditions, it is no longernecessary to top up the AdBluetank every time fuel is added.

Heavy duty front axles arestandard on the S323 and S353,and are an option for the smaller

S series tractors. The brakingsystem has also been improvedwith a new anti-freeze system.

With new software and a revisedtransmission design, both modelscome with auto-steering, or canhave the complete package, whichuses GPS to steer the tractor.

Agcommand – a vehicle trackingsystem and data recording tool –can be factory fitted.

THE A series accounts foraround 18 per cent of totalValtra production at Suolahti,Finland, so customers seeking abit more spec will welcome thearrival of two new models –the 88hp A83 HiTech and101hp A93 HiTech.

Joining the current three-model line-up, in addition tonew jubilee metallic bronzelivery, the newcomers also

have the HiTech forward-reverse shuttle from the largertractors, plus a 3.3-litre three-cylinder Sisu Stage 3a engine.

The new, slightly bigger andmuch quieter, cab has a flatterfloor design, and featureshanging pedals and more seatadjustment possibilities.

The focus with the latest flurry of telehandlers is on new ways to allowmachines to safely reach forward without tipping, in accordance with thenewly-introduced EN15000 standard.

AIMED at small to mediumlivestock farms, the 87hp LM5020 offers high levels oflifting performance in a compact package.

The 101hp engine of theLM5030 is for more demandingfarmers, working in hillyconditions or for silageapplications.

Lifting 2.5t to 5.78m, theLM5020 has a turning circle of just3.4m. With a beefed-up liftcapacity of 2.8t at 6.35m, theLM5030 turns around in just 4m.

Both machines are offered intwo different comfort levels – thebasic entry level and the comfortpack, which includes air-conditioning and a full range ofwork lights.

ALL 2012 Claas Scorpiontelescopic handlers feature aSmart Handling Overload controlsystem to comply with the EN 15000 longitudinal technicalstandard.

The system limits boomextension automatically as thesafe load limit is reached. Whilefurther extension is limited,retraction, lifting or lowering isstill possible, if safe to do so. Thesystem can be used to automatecertain work sequences, such asbucket or forklift modes.

THE 550-80 Agri Loadall, a 5t to8m machine, is described as abulk materials handler with thecapability of a telehandler andcapacity of a wheeled loader.

Powered by a 145hp, 4.4-litre,four-cylinder Dieselmax engine,the four-speed powershift

transmission takes it to 33kph. A40kph version is an option.

To prevent accidents (inaccordance with EN15000), itfeatures a progressive boom stop.If the limit is reached, themachine will let you move theboom back to a safe position.

Called Dynamic Load Control(CDC), the patented system relieson sensors to automatically

Information to the maximumpermitted load and stability indexis shown as a row of vertical rowof ascending LEDs in the cab. Analarm sounds as the stability indexapproaches a pre-set figure.

ALO Quicke Q-Series■ An extra 10 per cent crowdback angle and easierelectronic operation are mainfeatures of the latest ALOQuicke Q-Series tractor loaders,which peak with the Q98, for250hp+ tractors with arecommended weight of 13t.

RUNNING parallel to the ploughframe allows the FlexPackvariable width ring packer toautomatically adapt to mountedand semi-mounted ploughwidths.

Other advantages include thefact it is also used duringploughing of the first furrow,and the packer can be used both

at the headland and side edgesof the field.

Packer ring arrangementsoffset in pairs prevents clogging,and keeps them from sinking toodeeply into the soil.

THE single grain meteringdevice on Horsch’s newly-developed pneumatic MaestroCC drill allows it to accuratelyplant a wide range of crops,including maize, sugar beetand OSR.

Available in eight and 12-row versions, it is possible totransfer some of the weightfrom the main seed hopper tothe coulter bar.

Capable of drilling precisely,even when working at speedsof 15kph, power requirementis surprisingly low from 100hp.

WORKING in front of the Carrier,the six sharp knives in the rotatingdrum of the Crosscutter cut andcrush the crop residuesperpendicular to the travellingdirection. Discs then strip and shredthe trash lengthwise, simultaneouslyburying it in the soil.

Mounted in rubber suspensionunits for good stone damageprotection, operating depth isset and adjusted hydraulicallyfrom the cab.

The new option is currentlyonly available on the Carrier 650and 1225.

THE use of nylon bushes toreplace metal ones tominimise metal-on-metalcontact and greasing needson the Centurion cultivatordrill helps reduce runningcosts.

Maintenance is alsosimplified because all drillcoulter wearing parts canbe changed quickly andeasily without specialist tools.

Initially offered in 4m and 6mversions, 3m and 8m modelswill be added later.

THE Xeos power harrow drillcombination (3-4m) is nowavailable with uni-discs, culti-discs or Suffolk coulters, whichcan exert up to 80kg of pressureper disc.

The power harrow’s assistanceenables the drill to work in avariety of conditions, includingploughed, min-till and directinto stubble, it says.

The Xeos features Sulky’scentral volumetric meteringsystem with its adjustabledistribution system.

Kverneland LO/EO■ The headstock onKverneland’s LO/EO on-land/in-furrow ploughs has beenbeefed up to deal with ever-increasing horse powers. Nowable to cope with tractors upto 350hp, the wheel assemblytakes 320/60-12TT tyres forhigher transport speeds, andalso features longer legs forincreased beam to groundclearance to cope with trash.

NEW trailed versions ofPottinger’s Synkro stubblecultivators retain many of thetechnical features from thelinkage-mounted machines.

Available in working widthsfrom 4m to 6m, the two sectionsfold hydraulically to lower theheight and centre of gravityduring transport.

WITH a 15m working width andan 8,000-litre hopper, the 15001-C, a new top model in the Citandrill range, can cover up to 200hectares (500 acres) a day.

Requiring about 300hp, 20kphworking speeds are possible,

depending on conditions.It uses RoTec+ control coulters

with up to 55kg of pressure foraccurate seed placement. Thehopper can also be split to allowfertiliser to be applied whiledrilling.

KUHN’s Multi-leader semi-mounted plough range isextended to include six, sevenand eight-furrow formats.

All models are availablewith multiple working widthsfrom 350mm to 500mm perbody.

KOCKERLING has added a biggertine drill to its Ultima range. TheCS 600 has a working width of 6mand a 3,100-litre hopper capacitywith a filling height of 2.5m.

It is designed to press, sow,level and press again. Each seedunit is placed behind a pressure

wheel, which is controlled via ahydraulic cylinder. Metering isregulated with its own groundspeed radar.

Power requirement is from220hp to 300hp with an idealworking speed between 10 and12kph.

LEMKEN has extended its semi-mounted plough range with theintroduction of the Diamant 11and 12 Series machines.

Available with up to ninefurrows, they can be specifiedwith either slatted or solidmouldboards.

In addition to a hydro-pneumatic reset system, allmodels feature a weight transfersystem on the headstock toreduce wheel slip.

KVERNELAND FlexCart

WITH a track width of 2850mm,the FlexCart is fitted with astrong cross shaft for Cat IIItractors to cope with theweight of a full carriage.

Even when the angle of thedraw bar turns through 90degrees, the PTO shaft is still

aligned with the tractor. TheFlexCart is fitted with 560-60 x22.5 tyres and air brakes fortransport speeds of 40kph.

The Cat II three-point linkageallows quick and easyconnection of the Optima orcoulter bar.

THE trailed Dominator cultivatorcomes in four working widthsfrom 3.2m to 5.9m.

The cultivator is made up ofone row of leading smoothdiscs, followed by two rows oftines working to a depth of400mm, then another set ofserrated discs with a soilconditioner reel bringing up therear.

Power requirement is from250 to 550hp.

LEMKEN’s Rubin disc harrowrange will soon include a largermodel for farmers looking fordeeper cultivation.

Called the Rubin 12, it is fittedwith discs which will be able towork to a depth of 200mm and

will require upwards of 200hpfor a 3m working widthmachine.

At the rear, a dolly wheel hasbeen added to take the weightduring transport due to thelarge discs.

AS a result of the Simba andGreat Plains merger, themanufacturer is now offering itsTurbochisel disc and tinecultivator in the UK.

It comprises a single row ofstraight fluted discs, two rows

of deep leg tines and achopper at the rear, which alsoconsolidates.

They are available with seven,nine, 11 or 13 legs with 350mmspacing and the machines foldto 3m for transport.

GROWING demand for fertiliserplacement when drilling OSRand cereals has promptedLemken to launch a 6m grainand fertiliser version of theCompact-Solitair with Heliodor-based cultivation section.

Seed and fertiliser are placedsimultaneously, with the fertiliserplaced between the seed rows.

With around 5,000 litrescapacity, its tank is split intotwo sections. Its dividing wallcan be easily adjusted to holddifferent ratios of seed andfertiliser.

IT is not expected to go on saleuntil 2013, but Vega is the nameof the first trailed sprayerdesigned by Lemken engineers.

Inside, the tank is centrallydivided by a baffle to ensureconstant weight distributioneven when the tank is part-filled, while the chassis isintegrated in the frame forgood ground clearance.

Tank capacities of 3,000, 4,000and 5,000 litres areplanned.

THE Commander 7000 is thelargest trailed sprayer fromHardi. Based on the Commander6600i, standard specificationincludes a hydraulically-suspended axle and a drawbarsuspension.

Three different booms areavailable – the air-assisted TwinForce from 24 to 36m, the Forceboom from 24 to 36m and thenew Terra Force 36 to 42m.

CASE IH Axial-Flow 130/230

JOHN DEERE S Series

NEW HOLLAND CR

THE technical heart of Case IH’snew Axial-Flow 130 and 230combines remains, but the familiarAxial-Flow rotor has been updatedand now includes a new SmallTube Rotor for the 130 series.

This helps to improve threshingperformance in specialty cropswithout affecting straw quality.Auto-Crop Setting technologymeans rotor speed is infinitelyvariable from 220-1,200rpm, whilesieve clearance and threshing gapare also controlled automatically.

The 130 series combines areequipped with FPT SCR engines, a6.7-litre in the 5130, while the6130 and 7130 combines use a 9.0-litre SCR power source.

Nominal power and maximumpower ratings have beenincreased on both these combines,

the 6130 developing a maximum387hp and 415hp for the 7130.

The 230 series is the newflagship class combine from CaseIH, consisting of the Axial-Flow7230, 8230 and 9230 models, witha maximum power of up to 571hpwith cutterbar options up to10.7m wide.

The 7230 now features thesame size cleaning area as the8230 combine, with self-levellingas standard. Grain tanks on the230 series include a large 12,330-litre version on the 8230 and 9230.

The 230 series combines alsobenefit from the same tracktechnology used on the Quadtractractors. Helping to reduce groundpressure and improve traction, the610mm-wide tracks can travel atspeeds of 20kph on the road.

CLAAS Lexion THE 2012 Lexion news includesnew rotary and walkervariations, with more featuresincluding larger cabs and a40kph transmission option.

The current range-toppingLexion 600 is superseded by the770, with smaller 760, 750 and740 models having the APShybrid rotary system and six newstraw-walker models designatedin model number from 670down to 620.

Under the hood, power hasrisen across the board in all

models apart from the range-topping 770, which sticks withthe current 586hp, but then at alower revving 1,800rpm.

Outside, there is a new TerraTrac drive system. Dubbed TerraTrac 3, this Claas-made system isonly available on the 770 (30kphformat) and 750 (30 or 40kph).

The new system has an autolevel system with nitrogen andoil dampers power up the tracksover speeds of 2kph. Duringcornering, the system pumpsmore oil to the outer track tokeep the combine level.

On the tyre front, Michelin’sCerexbib 800/70R32 is anexclusive offering on Lexions. Itis claimed to give a 22 per centlarger footprint than a similar-sized standard tyre.

SPECIFICALLY designed forEuropean crops and conditions,John Deere’s new S Seriescombines comprise the S670, S680and 625hp flagship S690.

As well as new cabs, keyfeatures include an integrated66cm (26in) wide rubber trackdesign. Suitable for road speedsup to 30kph, it has full hydraulicsuspension and an overalltransport width of 3.42m.

The top two S Series modelstake power from a 13.5-litre Stage3b engine and have grain tankcapacities of 14,100 litres, whilethe smallest gets a nine-litreengine and a 10,600-litre graintank. A 50hp power boost aids

unloading at a rate of 120 to 135litre/sec via an optional 6.9mauger which folds around theback of the combine.

There is a choice of twotransmissions. ProDrive, which isstandard on the S680 and S690featuring automatic shiftingbetween two speed ranges, or athree speed Push Button ShiftTransmission (PBST). This isstandard on the smaller S670 andallows the operator to select arange at the touch of a button.

The S series uses a new single3.12m rotor which can handlemore material, provide higherseparator capacity and threshingthan its predecessors.

UPDATES to New Holland’sflagship range of CR twin rotarycombines include a rubber trackoption.

Integrated into the combineusing its own sub-frame andbespoke transmission, the newSmartTrax system is designed to reduce ground pressure byup to 57 per cent compared

to wheeled machines.They feature a triangular

structure with positive lug drive.They also have automaticcontinuous belt tensioning, rubberblocked suspension with threecentral independent rollers, andare capable of 30kph at 1,600rpmon the road.

MASSEY Ferguson’s eight straw-walker Centora combine receivesa host of new features designedto boost productivity and cutrunning costs.

These include Sisu 8.4-litreCitius engines with Generation 2SCR/DOC. The engine develops amaximum power of 379hp at1,950rpm on the 7280 plus afurther 25hp power boost.

The MF 7282 Centora has amaximum power of 404hp, whilethe Delta continues to peak at500hp. Both benefit from newengine transmission platesdeveloped for the Delta.

Also new on the Centora is thehigh performance concave withwider opening for maximumgrain removal, plus there isupgraded grain pan separationcapacity for better cleaning.

The new and stronger rearaxle fitted to 2012 Centora andDelta combines reduces theturning radius to 5.5m, and newsteering geometry and largersteering cylinders eases steering.

Finally, Delta combines benefitfrom a new engine compartmentlayout to improve accessibility,which includes a built-in handrail for safety.

Part of John Deere’s newFarmSight intelligent solutionsstrategy, on the tractormonitor, the operator canview a map which displays theposition of harvesters and ofother tractor/trailer units inthe field.

Depending on the level ofgrain in the combine’s tank,Machine Sync sets prioritiesfor the unloading process andindicates which harvesterneeds to be unloaded next.

As a next step, anadditional feature enables thetractor operator to accept theunloading request, which willautomatically exclude othertractor/trailer units fromapproaching the samecombine.

Providing the AutoTracsteering system is fitted to thetractor, the system can allowthe operator to takecommand of the tractor andtrailer, once a predetermineddistance from the combine isreached.

When activated, theoperator begins to steer thetractor and trailer relative tothe combine’s speed andtravel direction.

RGS FORFAR ScanStone WindrowerDEVELOPED in conjunction withScott’s of Boston, Lincolnshire,the ScanStone potato windrowerhas a floating head for slopingground conditions.

AIMED at those who want theoutput of a four-rotor rake, butwith the compactness of a two-rotor model, the Liner 3100 offersinfinitely variable working widthfrom 8.7m to 10m.

This allows it to pull togetherfour 3m swaths into one, or gathertwo swaths from a 7.5m-widecombine harvester. Swath widthvaries from 1.8m to 2.6m,depending on working width.

Working height is adjusted via a

mechanical screw on each rotor.During work, when the rotors areraised, they remain parallel to theground, and have a maximum liftheight of 900mm.

REPLACING the F500 series, theF5400, F5500 and F5600, threenew fixed chamber round balers,produce standard bale sizes of1.23m x 1.25m.

The 5400 is the lowest specmachine, with manual greasingand no knives. The 5500 has 15knives, which can be usedindividually, together, or not atall. Similarly, the 5600 has 23knives for a chop length of 50mm.

All models have a drop floor torelieve blockages and a split drivesystem to reduce stress on shafts.

THE fixed chamber i-BIO roundbaler-wrapper combinationopens the upper part of the balechamber after the bale andbinding process.

Standard features include anew forage cutting device, anda tilting base for speedy baledischarge.

Two cutting systems areavailable, with 14 or 23 knives,protected by a mechanicalspring safety.

TESTS with the Ultima non-stopround baler wrapper confirmsoutputs of up to 80 bales perhour. It works by collecting grassin a pre-chamber between twobelts while net is being applied inthe main belt and slat chamber. When a bale is discharged and thedoor is shut, this pre-compressedmaterial is let into the mainchamber. With a minimum powerrequirement of 170hp, it is notexpected in the UK until 2013.

JOHN Deere’s 900 series variablechamber round balers use acurtain at the rear to replace therear door, which Deere saysspeeds up bale ejection.

Deliberately flexible chamberwalls ensure the baler reachesmaximum capacity, and allows thechamber to open slightly as eachbale is ejected, preventing any riskof the bale hanging.

The two models produce 1.6mand 1.85m diameter bales.

ZX forage wagons now benefitfrom the chain-and-slat floordesign, which slopes downwardsby 350mm at the front.

This reduces the spacethrough which the material istransferred from the cuttingrotor into the wagon, enablingfaster and gentler crop feed aswell as a reduction in inputpower.

As a result, the smallest ZXmodels can now be operatedbehind a 150hp tractor.

FORAGEHARVESTERSSelf-propelled forage harvester power appears to have reached the limits, for now at least. The emphasis for2012 is on clever electronics to reduce engine power when it is not needed to reduce fuel consumption levels.

JOHN DEERE FarmSight

FARMSIGHT is the name of a newglobal package of advancedsolutions from John Deere, someof which are already available on2012 self-propelled forageharvesters (SPFH) made atZweibrücken.

This includes a new telematicssystem to remotely monitor theforager’s location, fuelconsumption and status.

Called JDLink Ultimate, theforager automatically generatesmessage alerts via e-mail ormobile phone (SMS) when serviceor maintenance is required.

Message alerts can be sentdirectly to the owner/fleetmanager, the dealer or both, andthe system enables remotediagnostics to be made by dealers.

Also new is the constituent

sensing software update on theHarvestLab near-infra redspectrometer, which now sensesadditional silage qualityparameters, such as protein, sugar,starch, fibre and ash content,either on–the-go or as a portablestationary unit.

This allows silage additive ratesto be adjusted automaticallyaccording to the crop sugarcontent or HarvestLab’s dry matterreadings.

Another key feature is thefully integrated system ofrecording and documentingsilage quality and yield data onthe forage harvester’s GreenStardisplay.

Other FarmSight solutions forJohn Deere SPFHs are promisedsometime soon.

JF-Stoll’s flagship FCT 1360trailed forage harvester featuresa newly developed and heavierchopping rotor, which thecompany says increases capacityby 25 per cent.

Called Upper Cut, it drawsmore air into the chute, whichnot only minimises blockages inthe feed-intake section, butresults in a long and powerfulthrow of the crop.

Other standard featuresinclude a hydraulically foldablechute. Easily capable of loadingtrailers with a height of 4m, itfolds to reduce the transportheight to under 4m.

A smaller FCT 1060 is alsoavailable. Also equipped withthe new chopping rotor, pick-uproller and electro-hydraulics, thehydraulic folding chute isoptional.

BIOMASS is of growingimportance in Europe and by2020, it is expected 8,600MWof electricity will be generatedfrom more than 2.5 millionhectares (6.1m acres) ofbiomass crops.

TO comply with engine emissionregulations, Claas has ditched thetwin-engine philosophy in its top-end Jaguar foragers.

The 930, 940, 950 and 960 stickwith Mercedes Benz, but the toptwo models use a single SCR MANengine with 775hp for the 970, and884hp for the flagship 980.

More important is the DynamicPower option on the two topmodels, which adapts the engine’spower to match crop conditionswhile maintaining constantengine revs.

Recognising the different loadranges, the system automaticallyadapts the engine output in up to10 power levels. This ensures the

forager always maintains the mosteconomic speed range of1,800rpm.

As an example, power can varyon the 970 from 775hp in heavyrows, down to 339hp for lightercrops, saving 10 to 15 per cent offuel, says Claas.

Other 2012 features includenew CerexBib Michelin tyres. Newmaintenance lighting is alsoincluded. As a standard feature,the work lights remain lit for 60seconds after switching off theignition, and step lighting is alsoactivated via the optionalmaintenance lighting, allowingthe driver to safely leave the cabat night.

KRONE BiG XTHE new common-rail MANStage 3b-compliant enginesfitted to Krone’s BiG X SPFHfeature an output managementsystem, which provides theflexibility of operating todifferent power curves andpotential fuel savings of 6 to 11per cent.

In road transport, forexample, the engine outputfollows a specific curve thatallows the machine to travel at40kph at the lowest possible fuelrate.

In the field, the operatorselects one of two modes – Eco-Power and X-Power.

Eco-Power is for applicationswhich do not require theengine’s maximum output,whereas X-Power allows theengine to develop its full powerunder full load in difficult maizeconditions.

Along with the current six-cylinder BiG X 500, the newgeneration MAN-powered BiG Xforagers includes the 670hp BiGX 700, 825hp BiG X 850, and1,031hp BiG X 1100.

THE first small series of productionmodels of Fendt’s Katana 65 SPFHalready out in the field will bejoined by another 30 this season.

Powered by a six-litre V8 650hpMercedes SCR engine, whenworking in grass, the ECO Powermode reduces the engine speedfrom 2,000 to a fuel-saving1,600rpm. Similarly, the top speedof 40kph is also attained at1,600rpm.

The closed chopping cylinder on

the Katana 65 has a 720mmdiameter. One of the biggest onthe market, this ensures aconstant, high throughput withoptimum chopping quality.

Maize kernels are processedwith the new V-disc cracker, themeshing cylinders of which have aspecial design which provides alarge friction surface, so everykernel is cracked efficiently.

The headers, which are offeredas a factory solution, feature triedand tested technology fromKemper.

Round bale squeezer■ The Chilton C 40 round balesqueezer opens to 1.7m, andcan handle up to 1,200kgbales. It has a variablepressure grip to avoid rippingplastic and features a one-waycheck valve to stop thesqueezer splaying openduring transport.

JF-Stoll air brakes■ Large diet feeders from JF-Stoll can now be equippedwith air brakes for 40kph roadtransport. Fitted withcommercial truck axles withlarge brake drums and 335mmwheel hub, this allows trucktyres and rims to be used.

THE Mech-Fiber bale handlingsystem has been furtherdeveloped to include theBaleblender.

Allowing whole bales to beprocessed, it comprises a seriesof hinged metal bars, whichspan the open top of themixing chamber to provide acradle to support the bale.

These now have a deepercurve to hold the bale moresecurely and expose more ofthe bale to the paddles.

As the paddles rotate, theircastellated ends draw thematerial out of the bale andover a knife running the lengthof the machine.

This action ensures the entirebale is pre-processed before itenters the chamber.

A HYDRAULIC suspension systemfor the front axle, a three-speedpowershift gearbox for mixing andunloading, and hydrostatic drive tothe rear axle are main features ofthe vertical auger AutoSpire.

A 140hp Deutz engine powersthe single-auger 12 and 14cu.mmodels, while a 175hp powersource provides the grunt in thelarger twin-auger 16 and

18cu.m versions.Available with both 4wd and

4ws, there are two road speedoptions – 25 or 40kph.

A HYDRAULICALLY-DRIVENspreading drum allows Strautmann’scross-conveyor diet feeders to beused as bedding machines.

HI-SPECDigi-Star TMR Tracker

THE Digi-Star TMR Trackerelectronic feed managementsystem comprises the TMR Trackercomputer software used to create,cost and manage the ration mix,and the cab control system, whichis fitted to the diet feeder.

The software-created ration mixinformation is then transferred tothe cab control unit via a memorystick, or the wireless system.

When creating the mix, the in-cab unit will display the requiredingredients. It will also record andsave loaded and fed weights.

BVL Dairy TunerBVL now offers a hand-heldterminal designed to downloaddiet specifications from a personalinternet account and to instantlyand automatically record theweighing, mixing and feeding of

the ration. The data can beaccessed at any point in theloading, mixing or unloadingprocess and the unit remains withthe operator in the tractor cab oraround the machine.

SPREAD-A-BALE SBL Mini

SUPPORTED on three axles andoffering a capacity of 52cu.m theSolomix 3 – 5200 is claimed asthe world’s largest triple-augermixer wagon.

Dubbed the Triple X, the 22.5-tonne capacity is enough to feedaround 360 animals in a singlefill.

Aside from its monstrouscapacity, the machine is

equipped with an intelligentdrive system, which helps tokeep tractor power to 240hp.

KVERNELAND Portus

A WIRELESS hand-held controllerfor Siloking diet feedersoperates with one controller forthe loader, and one for thefeeder tractor.

Called the Portus, the systemreplaces the display scale on thefeeder which can often be in thewrong place to see properly, says

the manufacturer.Both devices share

information stored on thefeeder’s main control box, andcan be configured to allowoperation of the feederconveyers and discharge doors.

The radio system has aworking range of up to 1.5km.

THE SBL Mini, the smaller of twonew Spread-a-Bale straw beddingmachines requires a loader with aminimum lift capacity of 1.7

tonnes, and can handle roundbales up to 1.5m in diameter and275kg in weight.

Topping out the range is theSBL 130, which can handle squarebales up to 1.2mx1.3mx 2.5m, andround bales up to 2m in diameter.

Both are self loading andrequire a minimum oil flow of 55litres per minute.

FIRST seen as a 9cu.m prototype,the commercial version of theSmartrac includes a wider rangeof capacities from 9-12cu.m, whilethe self-loading arm takes a wider1.45m cut and has a maximumworking height of 4.5m.

There is a cross conveyor optionand blades on the front forpushing forage back to the feedbarrier. The smaller neater bonnetoffers improved visibility and thecab is larger.

A TWIN-speed independentgearbox is a key feature of theC460 bale feeder and strawblower. It allows the operator toeasily adjust rpm from 280rpmfor feeding, up to 540rpm whenspreading. Fitted with a three-stage joystick-operated chute,which can rotate through 300degrees, straw can be blown todistances of 18m on the rightside and up to 13m on the left.

The main part of thePenditwist boom is 15m widewith two hydraulically folding1.5m sections which can beisolated for a 15m workingwidth.

An anti-crash device allows thebooms to move 600mm whenfaced with an obstacle, and thenew boom folds to 2.55m fortransport.

Joskin has also extended itsMultitwist multi-nozzle boomswith 18m, 21m, 24m, and 27mversions.

RICHARD WESTERN STCAVAILABLE in capacities from2,500-4,000 litres, STC slurrytankers are designed to carryvarious tools, including thecompany’s own 4m and 6mslurry injection units.

Mounted on a full length

chassis, they come as standard ontandem 10-stud commercial axles,with 420mm x 180mm brakes,sprung draw-bar and a stone trap.

A rear steering axle, or a slidingrear axle to take the weight ofthe attachment are optional.

Feed rate is adjusted via apotentiometer at the front ofthe body and material is movedalong the galvanised floor via aplastic coated hydraulic pusherto the vertical rear beaters.

Distribution patterns can beadjusted, and the maximumspreading width is about 12m.

WHILE still using centrifugalpumps for emptying, the PGVslurry tanker represents a moveback to producing vacuumtankers for filling, which Samsonhas not done for a while.

With a 20,000-litre tankcapacity, the twin-axle rearsteering machine offers threefilling solutions – vacuumpumping, centrifugal pumping,or a combination of both.
