Problem statement MAA Garment factory is one of modern and export-oriented Garment and Textile Company in Ethiopia. As our observation the company uses traditional way of maintenance system. to be competitive in the world market they should implement modern maintenance system which is proven by word leading textile industries. Due to this, the company couldn’t use its full capacity. In addition to this problem, the machinery that is failed may be out of function for long period of time attributable to shortage of spare part, poor communication and cooperation system prevailing in the factory. Generally, the maintenance system of factory is based on poor integration of all functions and processes in the organization, which results in:- High maintenance cost Less availability and reliability of equipments High total maintenance hour and man hour Frequent failure of machineries Low profit Low production Workers dissatisfactions As MAA Garment factory is having high demand of textile products, enhancing the performance of factory through implementing well

Problem statement

textile industries. Due to this, the company couldn’t use its full capacity. In addition to this problem, the

As MAA Garment factory is having high demand of textile products, enhancing the performance of

factory through implementing well developed and organized maintenance system will not only help the

factory to have efficient way of maintaining its different but also it produces high quality product which

makes the factory high competitive in the world market. It enables the factory to keep the level of spare

parts in stock at a minimum level for effective maintenance and for savings of foreign currency. Hence,

this project aims at addressing and improving the maintenance system of the factory to clearly scrutinize

the hidden factors, which hinder the capacity of the factory.

Objective of the project

Based on observed problems, the study mainly focuses on dealing with the way that the MAA garment

factory enables to improve the existing maintenance system of the company to have better capacity

utilization and to enhance the effectiveness of its equipments. Hence, the project will try to fulfill the

following objectives.

General objective

The general objectives of the project are:-

Assessing the existing maintenance system of the company

Specific objective

Critically examine and investigating the problems of the existing maintenance system

Identifying the key potential area for the improvement of system.

Propose developed maintenance system and implementation model.

Research methodology

Relevant primary and secondary information was congregated using questionnaire and interview is

structured way besides direct-observation on site visit. The relevant secondary data was collected from

the technical manual, monthly and annual report of the factory.

The project begins with conceptual literature study to develop and structure suitable questionnaire and

ways of interview. The literature is also reviewed side by side with data acquired from interviews and

observations to develop better maintenance system to factory. The collected data mainly aims at assessing

the existing maintenance system and the future business plan of the factory. Besides, the data is

synthesized with literature for investigating the potential area of improvement as shown in figure 1.

Data analysis in the project has been conducted using appropriate tools in order to identify core problems

in the company.
