As a result, our staff and students are really motivated and inspired and are looking forward to continuing to integrate technology into their learning experiences in new and state-of-the-art ways. 4/5 Blue Confidently Compete On The World Stage Students from 4/5 Blue were among approximately 8 million students from 30,000 schools in 200 countries to compete in the World Education Games last week. The competition enabled the students to compete on a global scale and focussed on the key academic areas of maths, literacy and science. Well done 4/5 Blue, we eagerly await the results! Community Comes Together To Run WollongongSome members of our school community were part of approximately 3,250 people who, through their participation in Run Wollongong last Sunday, helped to raise almost $105,000.00 for the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Hospital. Well done to all who took part, you certainly came together for the good of the community!

Learn to Swim Supporting Student SafetyFrom next Monday 26 October, students from Years 2-6 will be participating in the Department of Education’s School Swimming Scheme. This is an intensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students with basic skills in water safety and survival. Instruction will take place at Corrimal Pool and the program will run daily for a period of two weeks.

Kindergarten 2016 Ready For OrientationOur Kindergarten Orientation sessions are scheduled to commence on Wednesday 28 October and include one parent and three student orientation sessions. During these sessions, students participate in classroom activities with their senior buddies, and parents are introduced to key members of the Towradgi Public School community and are provided with vital information about starting school. We are really looking forward to welcoming all of our new Kinders and their families into the school through this supportive and worthwhile program.

Special Visitor At ToPS AssemblyOur students were very excited at our assembly last Friday when Healthy Harold visited, delivered important personal messages and donated prizes to our PBS prize draw! Harold even asked for some student volunteers to have their photograph taken with the new truck that tows his Life Education Van. Considering his busy schedule, it’s not often that Harold is able to leave the van to make special appearances like this, so our students were very lucky!

Acknowledging Our Great Teachers - 30 OctoberInternationally World Teacher’s Day is celebrated on the first Friday in October. However, as this is usually during Australian school holidays, Australia celebrates the day on the last Friday in October. This annual event celebrates the teaching profession and acknowledges the efforts of teachers in an increasingly complex, multicultural and technological society. I hope you join me in celebrating this day and acknowledging the magnificent work of our teachers. Each day I am amazed at the dedication, enthusiasm and energy displayed by all of our teachers at Towradgi Public School. It is a reflection of the quality of our great public education system and a credit to the professionalism of each and every one of our teachers.

Rehearsals Underway For K-2 Christmas PlayIt’s that time of year again when the students from K/1 Pink, K/1 Orange, 2 Red, K-6 Yellow and K-6 Purple commence rehearsals for the school play which is scheduled to be performed this year on Wednesday 9 December. The play is a wonderful opportunity for the students to come together to demonstrate their learning in the creative arts and to celebrate what has been a great year of learning and fun.

2017 Year 7 Entry Into Selective High SchoolsGovernment schools use a range of strategies to meet the educational needs of gifted and talented students. One strategy is selective high school placement, which provides intellectual stimulation and an educationally enriched environment for gifted and talented students. If you would like your child to apply for selective high school placement in Year 7 in 2017, you need to do so soon. Further information and online applications can be accessed through www.schools.nsw.edu/shsplacement. Online applications close 16 November, 2015. Late applications will not be accepted.

P&C Gear Up For Their Annual General MeetingOn Tuesday 10 November at 6:30pm, the P&C will hold its AGM, which will be followed by the regular monthly meeting. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage as many parents as possible to come along and take part in the meeting. These meetings are great social get-togethers and are excellent opportunities for parents to gain a better understanding of what is happening at our school. They also provide opportunities for parents to have input into the future directions of the school and/or become involved in the activities of the P&C.We are especially hoping that some new parents will come along and possibly become involved in executive positions on the school’s P&C. It is also important that we support those parents who have worked so hard for the school over a long period of time. Hope to see you there!

School Fun Run Fundraising SuccessCongratulations go to all who collectively raised a total of $1,250.00 from the school fun run that was held at last term. Special thanks go to our school’s highest fundraisiers Jordan M, Jade S and Oscar N for going the extra mile. These funds are greatly appreciated and will go towards the development of our new sensory room.

Environmentally Friendly ToPS Moves To e-NewsletterDid you know that using just one ream of paper equates to 6% of a tree, 5.4 kg of CO2 in the atmosphere and 160 litres of water! Following discussion at the last P&C meeting and in keeping with our environmental initiatives, we have decided to reduce our environmental footprint by asking parents to access all future school newsletters via the school website, our Towradgi Public School app or via email. Considering the newsletter is a vital part of our home/school communication, a reduced number of paper copies will be made available for collection from the school office for those parents who are unable to access it in its digital form. Should you wish to receive the newsletter via email or paper copy, please complete the reply slip going home with students today. Thank you for your support!

What’s news in 3/4 Green?Students from 3/4 Green are jumping straight into a crazy term 4 and have been busy preparing for their second assembly item of the year. Be sure to keep the Week 4 fortnightly assembly in your calendar, so you don’t miss out on another amazing performance from the talented students in our class. This term there is lots happening and many wonderful things to look forward to. Our students will be participating in an exciting AFL Project, where they will be working with students from the University of Wollongong; attending a Beach Safety Day, run by our local lifesavers; participating in Life Education lessons with our good friend Healthy Harold; and participating in the global ‘Guess Who?’ game of Mystery Skype. These are just some of the exciting things that we have coming up this term. In Science we will be starting a new unit of work called Friends or Foes? and our class are really looking forward to investigating and learning about the life cycles and relationships of different plants and animals. We will be continuing our work in history on ‘Community and Remembrance’ and are also excited to take part in lessons on drug education and personal safety. In maths last term, we were busy developing our skills in fractions and decimals, multiplication and division, position, different areas of measurement and in many other areas of the curriculum. In term 4 we look forward to refining and building upon these skills. 3/4 Green are also excited about continuing their work in English and learning to write for a genuine audience. Check out our classroom walls or weebly page to see some of the amazing stuff we have created so far. Be sure to stay posted for more wonderful things from 3/4 Green in 2015!
