Lane in North Babylon between the hours of 9am and 4pm, to obtain one. When you come into the ParksDepartment please have on hand proof of residency and birth certificates of the children in your household.

I hope you’re excited forsummer as I am! We haveso much going on at ourparks, beaches andrecreational facilities overthe next few months, fromour popular free summerconcerts to the annual
Beach Blast celebration in August.
In addition to the exciting events we have upcoming,the Town of Babylon has made several improvementsover the past year to some of our most popular parksfacilities. The most notable perhaps being the
upgrades to Tanner park marina, which hosts over130 boaters during the summer season. At TannerPark, we reconstructed damaged bulk heading,installed long lasting storm resistant decking andunveiled new enhanced electric and water servicesfor boaters.
I hope that you’ll read through this guide and takeadvantage of everything that we have planned.There’s fun for everyone!

Swimming ProgramsThe Town of Babylon Aquatics Program incorporates guidelines set forth by the American RedCross to teach the latest swimming and safety skills. Our Learn-to-Swim Program is for childrenages 3 through 15 and includes Jellyfish, Porpoise, Shark, Manatee, Levels 2 - 6, Teen, FitnessSwimmer and Lifeguard-Readiness classes. Additionally, we offer aquatic programs for children whohave advanced past our Learn-to-Swim Program (Advanced Programs, pages 13 – 14); infantsand toddlers, children with special needs, and adults (Specialty Aquatics, pages 14 – 15); and anIntramural Swim Team program (Competitive Aquatics, page 15).
American Red CrossLearn-to-Swim ProgramSession I:Monday through Friday, July 6 - July 24Session II:Monday through Friday, July 27 - August 14*Lessons run Monday through Friday for 3weeks and are given in half hour sessions. Please bring double proof of residency (NYS Drivers License and tax orutility bill) and birth certificates for each child in your household.Session I Registration and 5 week programs: Registration will open online on Tuesday, May12, 2015 at 9:00 am for Session I and will close on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11:59 pm. BEGINNERS:Level 1, must be a minimum of 5 years old toparticipate in the beginner program. Classes meetin the “big” pool. Students will be working on frontand back floats, submerging under water andstreamlines.Shark (S), level 1 skills for 5 year olds only,8:1 ratio, class held in shallow end of big pool.Manatee (M), level 1 skills for 6-11 year olds,10:1 ratio.Teen (T), multi-level beginner class for 12-15year olds*, 10:1 ratio.*Anyone 16 years of age or older, please seedescription for Adult Lessons under SpecialtyAquatics.
Once student receives an American Red CrossLevel Card, advancement through the levels isbased strictly by skill level, age is no longer afactor. Swimmers MUST provide theappropriate Red Cross Skill Level Card toregister for any of the following levels. Each newlevel builds upon skills learned in the previousl e v e l .
ADVANCED BEGINNERS: Students will beworking on the front and back crawl strokes, frontstreamline glides with kicking and rhythmicbreathing, and back glides with kicking.Level 2 (2), ARC Level 1 card required, workingon freestyle and backstroke, students should beable to float comfortably on front and back priorto starting this class.Level 3A (3A), ARC Level 2 card required,freestyle and backstroke perfected, breaststrokeand fly kick introduced, jumping into deep water,
beginner diving.
INTERMEDIATES: Swimmers in theintermediate levels should have perfected
freestyle and backstroke prior to registering forthese classes. Students will be working onbreaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and diving.Level 3B (3B), ARC Level 3A card required, alllevel 3A skills reviewed plus 15 yards ofbreaststroke and butterfly.Level 4 (4) ARC Level 3B card required,swimmers will be doing laps, must be able to swim25 yards freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke andbutterfly; standing dives and sidestroke are
introduced.
ADVANCED SWIMMERS: Working onendurance and longer distances for every stroke.Swimmers must know how to properly execute thefreestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterflybefore registering for Advanced Swimmer Classes.Level 5 (5), ARC Level 4 card required, all strokes50 yards with proper stroke turns, 25 yardssidestroke, racing starts, treading water for 2 minutes.Level 6 (6), ARC Level 5 card required, all strokes100 yards, 500 yard swim, all competitive startsand turns, surface dives,20-yard underwater swim and treading water for5 minutes.Fitness Swimmer (FS), ARC Level 6 cardrequired, endurance swimming based class, warm-up, stretching, stroke drills, interval swimming,heart rate, 500 swim, 200M, 1 hour class.Lifeguard Readiness (LR), age 14, ARC Level6 or Fitness Swimmer Card required, 500 Swim,timed 50 yard freestyle, introduction to basiclifeguarding, this class covers the pre-skillstesting required to get into the ARC LifeguardTraining Course, 1 hour class.

First Workshop
Aim: Our program will start by demonstrating howmotion pictures and television is an illusion thatcreates the idea of motion. We will explain thebeginnings of line animation with our samples of theDisney animation cells from our motion picturemuseum. Students will view a six minute video ofMax Fleisher animation studio, which demonstrateshow a professional artists produce a cartoonanimation. The children will then work on producinganimations on 35mm film and create tracings ofanimation cells on light boxes. At the end of thesession, their films will be shown on a movie screen.
Second Workshop
Aim: We will explain the difference between lineanimation and stop-motion animation. The studentswill view two six minute documentaries of behind thescenes from Tim Burton’s classic stop-motion film.The children will then produce their own stop-motionanimation using pose-able figures. At the end of thesession, their stop-motion animation will be shown onthe movie screen.
Third Workshop
Aim: This class will begin with a documentary ofbehind the scenes from the stop-motion animationclassic film, King Kong. This movie put stop-motionand movie special effects into a professional industry.The class will then produce another stop-motion filmusing pose-able dinosaurs on a movie-set. At the endof the session, the class will see their final stop-motionanimation on a movie screen.
Fourth Workshop
Aim: The class will start with a short discussion ofmovie special effects and how they impact the movieindustry today. We then have a presentation of thehistory of movie special effects. The class will producelive green screen effects, where the students can seethemselves inside a major motion picture film. In thissession, the children will see themselves in a scene ofthe Harry Potter film. They will also be dressed incostume and use movie props, such as a flying broom.In this session, the students will also see themselves ona movie screen as they are riding a high-speedrollercoaster.
Fifth Workshop
Aim: In this session, we continue the green screentechnology as the students see themselves inside themovie Jurassic Park. The children will be runningfrom a T-Rex, hiding from Raptors, and feeding aBrontosaurs with a prop branch. In this session, wediscuss the animatronic effects used in movies. Wewill present our robot chimpanzee, whichdemonstrates animatronic special effects. In addition,our class will touch upon the actor’s role ofinteracting with a cartoon or CGI figure. A behind thescenes video of Star Wars will explain how an actorrehearses for an invisible fellow character in a scene.
Sixth Workshop
Aim: The class will start with a Q&A of movie specialeffects and animation, followed by a short triviagame on the movie industry. Students will create astop-motion film using themselves as the specialeffects characters. They will then produce a specialeffects film using the techniques of stop-freeze, whichwas depicted in the television series Bewitched. Wewill end this program by bringing in our specialmuseum piece, a life-size wax figure of ET. Childrenand parents can have the photo opportunity of takingpictures with ET.

The Bunger Surf Camp at Gilgo Beach is an exciting and fulfilling way to learn all the fundamentalsneeded to start surfing. We have a team of dedicated and experienced instructors that will have yousurfing after just the first day. We will focus on the basics of learning how to surf, such as paddling,catching waves, standing up, and riding waves. Bunger Surf Camp is also great for those looking to brushup their skills or to help take their surfing to the next level. Our instructors are all experienced surferswho will also help give you a better understanding of ocean safety, tides and rip currents. Bunger SurfShop provides all equipment or you can bring your own if you have it. The Town of Babylon offers residents the option to purchase a family pool plan for the summer season. The family pool plan is $85,$110, or $150 and grants unlimited access to Town pools for the entire summer. The term “family” in this context means primaryguardians and their dependents under the age of 18. Any family member over the age of 18 can not be included on the family planand must purchase an individual pool plan or daily tickets if they wish to use the facilities. When purchasing a family pool plan you mustshow proof of guardianship for any children in your care; this includes nieces, nephews, grandchildren and foster children. Ahousehold pool plan is a husband, wife and children under the age of 18. *There are no replacements for any lost or stolen pooltokens; please secure your tokens after entering a pool facility.

The Town of Babylon Beaches are accepting the New York State Access Pass for vehicleadmittance only into the Town Beaches in lieu of a Recreation Beach Pass purchased through theTown. This courtesy will enable a Town resident access to Overlook Beach, Cedar Beach, GilgoBeach, Cedar Marina, Venetian Shores and Tanner Park parking lots. The New York State AccessPass is a N.Y. State Park disability pass. You must present your NYS indivial access pass alongwith your NYS Drivers License and Car Registration showing you are a Town of Babylon residentto gain access to Town facilities.
