It was built at the top of a hill in Corfe, Dorset. Porchester castle built by the Normans after the Battle of Hastings. It was built by the sea and had a moat and drawbridge. Rich Lords or Kings lived in castles. They had lots of staff who lived and worked in the grounds of the castle. These included soldiers, servants, cooks and jesters. A King is a male ruler and a Queen is a female ruler. Queen Victoria became Queen in 1837. Queen Elizabeth became Queen of Great Britain in 1952.
